  • My first train ride ever, was on a steam engine, and that was back in 1989 when I was very little.

  • I am fortunate enough to have seen the time when steam locomotives were the ultimate rulers of the Indian railways. A time when spotting a diesel or an electric locomotive was rarity, these powerful machines bore the burden of the nation. A machine that was powerful, robust yet so humane that it could bring a big smile on the faces of weeping kids.

  • I remember travelling by Howrah Mail from Chennai during my boyhood days, with mum dad and my sister. This was during the years 1989-1990. I would sit in the coach (my train was driven by an electric locomotive - and a diesel for some parts of the journey). I could look out of the window and see the steam engines in Chennai Central station.

When I saw this documentary on TV in the year 1999, i cried so hard. Some things shall never, and better not be forgotten. The Great Indian Railways !!!!!

  • Liked it very much, touched me, remembered me on my own Darjeeling Railway experience 11 years ago.

    Thanks!

  • SUPER !!! *****

  • This is the most beautiful documentry that I have ever seen. The visualizations are epic and music is cinematic. It is no less than a masterpiece. You believe for a moment that trains do have souls. Emotionally it takes you to a wonderful place that is slowly dying.
