Always doing my best to share the XTR. And watching videos like this makes me miss the East Coast in a major way. I'll be back. In only a matter of months. LA's great for comedy, but nothing tops East Coast musicians. And, in my not-so-humble opinion (and as I've already said too many times), you're in the top of that top.
Stunning that, that much grove can be played on a cello. This guys needs to get on Americas got talent or some show that will showcase his remarkable talent.
Just FYI it's a cello and not tuned like a bass or guitar so it's plain different. and he's badass funky. It's actually tuned like a tenor banjo. C. G. D. A
i like this. I would let him use me. That is so sexy. His voice sounds so real. Not anything generic in it like some. He owned it. He made it his own.
I've spent the last hour searching for the best version of this tune on YouTube. I've watched Fiona, and Ben, and Lindsay, and on and on. Kept going back to the original by Bill. Even that was lacking the 'soul stir' I was looking for. Finally found it in this one...Thank you, Trevor!
dude u got mad skills. from start to end all i cud think about is having this song in my car during rush n put it on repeat lol. great stuff bro keep it up
They should put this guy on idol. Everybody will drop their instruments and mics and walk away if they are true musicians. Thank God for real music!!!! Amazing!!! Inspiring!!!
I can't believe what I am seeing here! This is one of the best performances I have ever seen in my life. It is so unique, I wish it was available to buy
such an amazing song, and done incredibly. this is the most unique version i've ever heard, and easily my favorite. i first saw it almost a year ago, but it still captivates me every time i listen. why can't there be more funk cello in this world...
I'm pretty sure guys like this don't write their stuff down...it just comes from their head into their fingers. Plus, how would he annotate the percussion? ('rap top of cello sharply, twice', slap bottom of cello..") I think it's like dancing...a person gets into a groove, and they don't think about it, they just do it. Paul McCartney can't read or write music....
Good luck though! If I had a cello, I'd certainly be striving to play it this way!
I'm so glad I wasn't there when Exter played this at that night club; I really believe I would have stood up and screamed about three times. As Gomer said on the Andy Griffith Show, "That was nice. Real nice". Deena Rose Vero Beach, Florida
Wow Mr. Exter.....that was really spritual....I am show this vid to my band....just so they will know that being creative doesn't necessariy mean change.....That is the same song we play almost nightly but who knew that The violoncello could be so funky....You should come to the city....We jam at Terra Blue and BB kings....I bet you would be a big hit......
It's about a very specific part of Americana, that some Americans share less than some Brits, and that some Brits have more access to than some Americans. That's what is meant by letting a soul go. It's about feeling affinity towards a particular aesthetic and being able to speak in that language.
A wasp from Connecticut doesn't understand this music anymore than a Italian does. They haven't drank that water yet, which is, after all, what cultural transformation and interchange is about, as an Italian can tell you. It isn't about disregarding illusions, it's about addressing realities and being richer for it. So forget about drinking "American" water, as that is an almost meaningless statement.
White and black matter less as artistic pedigrees in those regions with shared history and equal influences in roots music. This means poor southern whites of irish and scotch irish descent. Which is also what allowed the british to so identify with the music and the tensions. However, to state that this identity is "American" is silly and is the exact blanket "citizen of the world" argument you accused me of.
Your posts jump all over the place. America produced amazing songs like that above, but also Electric Light Orchestra and the stanky leg dance. By your own admission, location matters, and yet you cast a wide and imprecise net of Americana as a conversation about only black and white identity. The myth of blue eyed soul being indistinct from more traditional definitions of soul is just that.
He's either American or a Brit who's studied American music. My bet is that he's American. It's in the water here if you let yourself drink it. Stop thinking you're white and you're halfway there. Start thinking you're American and the universe unfolds before you.
It has nothing to do with deconstruction, Foucault, Derrida or any other flimsy, European mental masturbation of that sort. For Americans, the twin delusional identities of white and black are the issues involved in these posts and my reply. And for an American this type of groove is in the water here. You must not know where to drink. National location has everything to do with it because if you're not on this soil, you don't have IT and never will. Brits have embibed American water extensively for the last 60 odd years and transformed and created in ways previously unimaginable.
I don't know what cultural illusion there is, unless you're one of these post-modern, PC, multicultural, citizens of the world, and all that nonsense. THAT is the illusion.
