  • nice voice ... Very nice girl...

  • no idea what everyone is argueing about, but this song is sick :D

  • Such a mainstream's lyrics.

  • Yeah... pretty suspicious that auto-tune has become a popular "effect" that people now expect on mainstream records.

That digital vocal effect from a cranked auto-tune unit... perfect cover for people who can't sing at all. The record companies must be loving it.

Check out "auto-tune the news" on YT. Shows you how fake people can be these days, even without the million dollar budget. Those with the million dollar studio can probably do even more.

  • beautiful haunting voice...havent heard stacks of marshalls sound like this in sometime...really tight band...cant wait for my copy of c/d...need to hear the rest of this shit...hope its not a 1 hit disc..!!!

  • è una bomba ad orologeria ke ti scoppia in mano...O.O!!

  • Such awesome vocals/vocal melodies.

My only concern is that I think I can hear auto-tune kicking in (which would suck) but it might just be the way she sings (which would kick ass).

  • i agree

  • Hiya, Im the guitar player with emoTive and a pro for 20 years - this girlie is not using any shaping tools in my opinion. She is totally locked with the band in this track and using the vocals as an instrument in thier own right. She cuts through cos her voice is so pure (its like turning the gain down on a marshall - it kicks more) - Yeah, she kicks ass!

I reli like how the loose chorus vocals flow into each other - beautiful!

  • Actually, she cuts through because they aren't competing for frequencies. Additionally, whoever mixed this did a fantastic job EQing properly and using just the right amount of compression.

Everyone uses shaping (or at least pitch) tools. Everyone. You should know that.

    Regardless, she is great.

  • I'm on my sons login atm lol

  • I think part of it is the accent/voice/style, but hey... everyone uses auto tune to some degree on recordings. In her defense, it is pretty mild in comparison to others.

  • Autotune is probably on the 5th spot down for most useful tools. So many dumbasses think autotune is some sort of miracle tool. If the media made a big deal about bands using EQ to "cheat" and blend better, then media fed idiots would be whining about EQ cheaters as well.

Enjoy the music, regardless of how it was made.

  • I do my own recording. I do not consider it a miracle tool... hence why it's digital quality is currently being extolled. Disadvantage to advantage.

You cannot "cheat" with EQ. You cannot "cheat" with micing or mixing. That's sound quality... the actual music remains the same.

Auto-tune is taking a messed up section, that in a live situation people would cringe at, and bending it so it fits the correct melody.

If you can't do it dry, then you don't deserve to make money playing music.

  • It's pretty obvious that many "singers" out there cannot hit the notes to save their life, yet are making a living (sometimes a really good living) because now they can auto-tune in studio and live.

Pro-tools the crap out of things, then lip-sync it if your really bad.

I love earlier recordings, because I know the singer hit the note that's on the album. They didn't come up 40 cents flat and say "screw it, we'll fix it with the software".

  • "Enjoy the music, regardless of how it was made."

If you enjoy technical aspects of music, even in an entirely passive way, pro-tools/autotune will greatly diminish ones enjoyment of the music.

Dragonforce is an example. Many people liked them, and a large part of that enjoyment is in the execution.

When it was revealed that they are sloppy as hell and used studio trickery, they lost the magic, and lost longtime fans.

Auto-tune is like inventing "auto-balance" for a ballerina.

  • Jealous much?

  • Of what? I can sing.

Calling someone "jealous" is the ultimate cop-out. It works in almost any circumstance, is based on emotion, and thus cannot be proven/disproven, and fails utterly to address anything said.

I like this band, if that's what you're implying, and I don't see how anyone could be jealous of someone like Britney Spears, etc.

Jealousy is not the appropriate reaction to some loser pissing all over traditions and art forms that you truly appreciate with their hollow "product".

  • In any case, my original comment was merely that I would be far less impressed with her vocal performance/style/etc if it is indeed heavy auto-tune I can hear kicking in.

If a guitarist used a midi module and quantized and corrected all his wrong notes, it would be similarly unimpressive.

People are to concerned with "perfection" and "mistakes" now, and it's only getting worse as "advancements" appear.

  • It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong.

If autotune didn't sound good, then records with it wouldn't sell. clearly you are the one concerned with perfection.

I find it very hard to believe you know very much about doing your own recordings. Guitarists, drummers, bassists, pretty much everyone uses quantize tools in the studio to get a tighter groove. Sonar has audiosnap, pro tools has beat detective..

  • And if Steve Vai says he likes to use beat detective, then only god himself is the only mainstream artist not using a groove quantize.

It is naive to think that these people are really playing studio versions of their songs. There are so many unlive elements going on.

Just take it easy, and if you are still stuck on enjoying the technical aspect of the music, go shove a copy of pro tools up your ass.

  • For starters, your bullshit claim to hear heavy autotune usage stems from your shitty aural perception. I assume you astutely picked up on the heavy autotune usage at :57. That is not autotune my friend. The blaringly obvious effect is caused by a 2nd vocal take singing an octave higher with wide vibrato.

The uneducated, unexperienced article you read about autotune in time magazine doesn't make you an studied professional engineer so please do me a favor and shut your fucking mouth

  • "The uneducated, unexperienced article you read about autotune in time magazine"

    Never heard of it.

"If autotune didn't sound good, then records with it wouldn't sell."

By this logic, Timberlake is one of the greatest musicians that ever lived.

"Sounding good" is entirely subjective. Early black metal "sounds good" to some people, in it's context. I've made no claims as to what "sounds good".

"There are so many unlive elements going on."

    Again, not the issue.

  • It's throughout the song and, as I have said, it is likely more to do with her singing style than anything.

This whole thing is based on an "if" and my personal opinion regarding auto-tune.

Also, I can tell when somethings double tracked. Don't insult me based on my opinion of your precious techno-fix.

"It doesn't matter (blah, blah, blah)"

    Relevance? "Theory"?

"clearly you are the one concerned with perfection."

Because I am more tolerant of "mistakes" and inconsistency than techno-fixes?
