@Rejito Les Claypool does a little..I dunno if you would call it skit or not o: but other outro on Significant Other he does this weird little thing :D
@skateboardNsnow44 Ler LaLonde was in the band possessed, which was technically thrash metal, but had elements of death metal. Their first album came out a bit before Death's 'Scream Bloody Gore" which is technically the first true death metal album, and Chuck Schuldiner (Death's guitarist, RIP) has cited them as an influence to his music. Hope that clears it up
@BrettDixonMusic What do mean saw the light? there are death metal bands out there who do more than try and act brutal, just listen to voice of the soul by death. Some people actually focus on trying to make music. I don't care what genre of music a band plays if they're making great music.
It saddens me that this album is a one of a kind... Primus is known for being "anti-pop", but this was their most well rounded well written album in my opinion... I can listen to every song on it and appreciate it... whereas most of their other albums have sparks of "amazing" wrapped in blanket songs that don't have all cylinders firing... I think Primus is at their best as a jam band... these songs are so powerful... I wish they'd do another one like "Anti-pop"
@DeEzriel I think this album is more suited for a wider audience (and I mean that in a negative way). Brown Album is by far the best, in my opinion. Or maybe not by far; Sailing The Seas Of Cheese is right up the alley.
@leirgauk This was actually the only album that they allowed other people (outside influences) to voice their opinions about the songs. Fred Durst was one of the producers and James Hetfield (among others) helped them with certain parts of it. It was more of a collaboration album, along with their original sound that made this album what it was. Guess I'm one of those people that refuses to like something just because it's different... it has to be different AND well written.
@leirgauk I like a lot of Primus' music, but then there's a lot of it that I hate because it's like they are playing "weird" stuff... just for the sake of it. I feel the same way about Meshuggah... their first few albums were amazing mixes of old school thrash metal, with matchmatically brain melting time signatures.. but now... many years later... they play off-time riffs for the sake of being off-time and focus less on the quality of their music.. then again, some people like it that way...
@DeEzriel I get what you're saying, and you have to be in a certain mood to be able to enjoy the weirdness - you certainly can't be happy as a rainbow. Combine that with being really stoned, and you're all set to groove out, man! Personally, I can't stand most metal, especially the black and screamy stuff. And Primus differs a lot from most of the music I listen to (as they tend to do), but is still one of my fav bands. I even love their really weird stuff.
@DeEzriel I Actually enjoyed Obzen, especially Lathargica, but i get it. Some of it can be a little stale, but when you've already written everything worth listening to ever, it would hard to make new songs, lol. And in my opinion, catch 33 was Meshuggah's high point.
@S0m3kind0fm0nst3R I guess that's the beauty of having different tastes in music... bands can change their sound and still have fans, : )... but of course it sucks for fans of the old sound, haha... because they keep waiting for something that sounds "good" to "them", but it may never happen, and I think we are all like that about one band or another... and I know what you're saying about running out of material... I'm a musician and understand completely, but I would be happy if they just went
@S0m3kind0fm0nst3R back to old school/off time metal like they were... and honestly.. they've put out several albums in their career, but not enough to have complete thrash writers block... hell.. even Metallica put out something that bested their recent efforts... so it can be done, it just has to be willed by the band... and I don't see Meshuggah wanting to go back to their old sound... either way.. they've still got a few decent songs here and there (for me).. so I'll keep up with them
Flea better? haha! ok man first of all Flea wouldnt even keep up with Les. and why compare them?? these guys are in defferent GENRES!! they are both GOOD at what they do! damn! its like comparing Jimi Hendrix with Carlos Santana.. but hey everyone has their own opinion
Claypool does as much slapping, popping and tapping as possible to try and make his songs good, Flea is a far better bassist who knows when enough is enough. He can do far more with a handful of notes than Claypool can with an entire fretboard
@GarethToye1 So, you're saying that a bassist with far less skill in the department of advanced bass techniques is better because he uses far less of said advanced bass techniques? ...your stupidity has surprised me in a way I previously thought impossible. Congratulations. Perhaps you'd next like to say that Poe was too depressing, or that Shakespeare used too many big words?
@GarethToye1 I do not now, nor will i ever, claim to understand your stupidity. It must be some abnormality in the brain that makes you think that a musician is better for playing less music. Consider this, Primus is a bass driven band, RHCP is not. Would it not make sense that the one writing the song would play more rather than less on it? You know what, i'm not going to argue with you about this, it does me no good to match wits with someone foolish enough to compare these two.
@IDCSignMYButt009 Why not? God basically orders the deaths of 2,476,633 in the Bible.. Satan kills around 10.. um.. who was the bad guy supposed to be again
