  • Classic Prunes, looks they were having a blast!

  • The best live video I ever saw. Informing theguys @ band rehearsal tonight we are playing both of these songs. Anyone have the chords?

  • ...habe mir die CD aus England schicken lassen - sehr abgefahren!

  • Dang, I was hoping for an autoharp solo!

  • 4 bieber fans

  • 4 douchebags never had it better....

  • Finally! A live performance! No lip sync! I've lost count of the number of 60s rock videos I've watched on Youtube claiming to be live performances. This is for real!

  • It looks like there was 3 fuckin' losers who watched this video.

  • @butchorion72 - thats funny

  • reminds me of another one bites the dust :D

  • oh yes, wow! great band, great clip! TY :-))

  • @rofflemows2- you should play it to those people you know.

  • Superb clip buddy thanks loads for the upload

  • He is crying while he is singing 'I Had Too Much To Dream' OMG I never noticed that before. Must have been a very personal song. You can see a tear rolling down his cheek at 4:22. I think he is sweating to maybe, but the line of a tear is very distinct.

  • @wouldntyoulike2know I think that is sweat. Must be warm as hell in that studio, the singer from Yardbirds did also sweat like hell when they had their performence there. Check out the video! Yardbirds - Train-Kept-A-Rollin'

  • @DannyDelReyo That is true, the Yardies did do a show on here. I forgot, but yes, Keith Relf was sweating too. I was hoping that the lead singer was being ultimately sensitive and emotional. ;)

  • @wouldntyoulike2know - He's not crying. That is sweat. If I had a dollar for everytime someone confuses sweat with tears on YouTube, I would own YouTube right now. I guess everyone wants to be melodramatic about the videos they enjoy. But when it comes down to it, we shed the tears because clips like this are so precious that they bring tears to our eyes.

  • @shyman99 Point taken. And for a shy man, you are very outgoing...The clip makes me emotional, I guess I just wanted the lead singer to feel emotional like I do when I hear the song.

  • I love this song. It is so beautiful and makes you feel any love or feeling is flying around you. Psychedelic is the best.

  • LOVE this band, hardly anyone i know has ever heard of them...but i think they're badass xD

  • Wa was da met den dikke, den dikke, den dikke

Wa was da met den dikke....Lu!

  • I think that Bruce Lee wore those shades in one of his movies as well.

  • The Electric Prunes in some of their greatest live performances..You never had it better! What the heck is the instrument being played??

  • @MDProdTV An auto-harp.

  • RIP bassist Mark Tulin, who sadly passed at the weekend.

  • I think the highlight of the performance was a rather inspired guitar riff in the 1st song, by what I guess was their lead guitarist. It just came out of no where and caught my attention. Very nice.

  • where are they now?

  • @tiberiousss They're still around , still releasing CDs of VERY trippy original Garage/Psych , and performing with a revolving door lineup. I saw them with four of the original classic lineup in '01 , but , I think it's still James Lowe and Mark Tulin , today. You can reach James at their myspace, and , most likely , Facebook.

  • prunes

  • Damn whatta fantastic sound they got !

  • a seldom seen gem. excellent "too much to dream" complete with authentic sound effects, excellent tremolo and reverb-it doesn't get any better than this.

  • This Bouton Rouge Show stuff cracks me up. The host of the show stands at some kind of stage prop console behind every band that plays (check out the vid for Pink Floyd's Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun for a much better example than this one, where you can hardly see him) and works at this console as though he's either a member of the band or a functioning technician, neither of course being the slightest bit accurate. The bands couldn't have appreciated this silly fifth wheel.

  • What is this Bouton Rouge (Red Button) show ? To much to dream last nite sounds bad compared to the studio version (which is nothing new). I think the tempo is a little too slow

  • @funkmasterjee A French show. Many artists appeard on that show, there is a clip on Youtube when The Yardbirds perform, Jimmy is amazing in that show. I actually like the version more, think it fits more to that kind of performance, but i don't like the sound, it's too bad, you can't hear the rhytm guitar in the first song at all.

  • What is this Bouton Rouge (Red Button) show ?

  • Provide me with the chords, can't figure them out. Damn.

  • i know nothing about these guys. genuine sound but did they ever make it big?

  • @Alphabex8 I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night is considered to be like a garage psyche classic, though i think their album "Underground" is magnificent.

  • @DannyDelReyo I agree.

  • @Alphabex8 As Danny Del Reyo said , the classic lineup made 2 LPs , the 2nd is widely considered to be the better of the two , as Danny and I agree , but , the first LP has some great songs , too , like their one big hit "I Had Too Much To Dream..." and the lesser hit "Get Me To The World On Time" (By no means a lesser song.). They did lots of TV shows in The US , Canada and Europe . But , Rock albums were'nt selling as much , until right around the time the original band split.

  • great band, awesome music, but for me, the best of this band is the music from the "Mass in F Minor" LP.Does anybody know, if they played this music live?

  • @teddy54BS They played a live performence of the Mass In F Minor, that i know. Though it ended in disaster.

  • Wow this is pretty weird, I randomly found this song had no idiea what band it was, never seen them before, Thought of a song which I don't remember the name of so i just wrote Electric Prunes had too m.t.d. Then i found this song again, Creepy! Cool song and Great band!

  • Anyone know what show this is from ? Look like 1968 for sure

  • @revup67 December 16, 1967 :D

  • Give me the chords to "You Never Had It Better" before i lose my fucking mind.

  • The Prunes were the real deal.

Check out their magnificent second album "Underground".

    Fantastic clip - cheers !!

  • See: Os Velhos da Montanha

  • e poi boh...

  • I'm sorry....but anyone that strums an "auto-harp" on stage is an idiot....including John Sebastian from the loving spoonful. I just go into amental rage when I see that

  • @inkey2

hilarious! i feel the same...banjo playing has a similar effect on me...

  • @jaynemercier at least banjo take some skill....but an autoharp is something that unlicensed kindergarten teachers play to impress the 5 years olds

  • far out man

  • THIS JUST BLOWS MY MIND!!!! its just to much straight to heaven in 1967 and 68 lol!!

  • this is amazing, what a great vid of the band, and its all live, one of the best music vids on you tube, for me anyway!!and lots of other folks, thanks for this!!

  • I'm looking for those 60s Rectangular shades...can anybody help me with those?

  • kick ass

  • Oh my! I actually had an Electric Prunes LP...come to think of it, I don't know what happened to it.

  • Thank you sooooo much for posting this! I just read about these guys in a Billy Corgan interview and I really enjoyed this performance.

  • Is it a Gibson guitar Mike is playing on?

  • Real live performance yay! No lip synchs, impressive for the time.

  • Well ahead of their time.

  • Damn, i would kill for those shades. Too bad it's impossible to find them, don't think it's like Ray-Bans, probably not even a "famous" brand. Pity

  • I don't know where you are from but, in all seriousness, if you live near any BIG truck stops, check there. They usually carry some of the weirdest off-brand shades you can find and I know I have seen some similar to these at a few near me. That's where I got my yellow Mike Nesmith shades a couple of years ago. Good luck@!

  • Well i live in Sweden, so i can check, i actually had them in mind, and they don't cost that much. Give it a try. Thanks man.

  • Ok here is what I know about the "Mike Nesmith shades". Which is what i refered them to as a kid watching the Monkees because he sometimes wore that frame style on the show. They were a design made in Japan in early 1967 by a company called "Style Eyes" There was a boutigue on the Sunset Strip in LA that sold them. They were worn by most of the LA 20 something bands of that period. Doors, Buffalo Springfield, Turtles, Monkees, Lee Hazelwood, Gary Puckett, even Liza Minnelli was seen with them.

  • There's a pair on Ebay now (Tuesday 27 April)

  • @radioman66 There's a pair on Ebay now (Tuesday 27 April 2010) I can't post the link in this space. Go to Ebay and type "Style Eyes" in "QUOTATION MARKS" you'll find them in the list.

  • @radioman66 who cares about those lame sunglasses.

  • @EdinAmmar Actually me, since i was the one who asked.

  • @radioman66 They are hot. Really make a face, I love them. And especially when Michael Nesmith wears his. <3 Wish guys still wore them.

  • They came in colored lenses such as red, blue, green, yellow (amber), violet (purple) then in early 70's mirrored or smoked dark. Usually with tortise shell frames or sometimes solid black, his are tortise in the vid if you notice, most were. I have 4 pair that I wouldn't give up for anything, blue lens, purple, rose colored & green all glass. Yes they are very hard to find as you stated because they havn't been manufactured since the 60's & 70's. Found mine on e-bay during the span of 10 yrs!

  • I hope this helps give you some insight on those vintage shades. You would think they would be easy to find because so many young people wore them 40+ yrs ago but they are very hard to find. I've seen a pic of Paul McCartney wearing a violet pair from 1969 or 70 a pic of Bruce Lee wearing amber pair from around 1970. If you watch Charlie's Angels movie from 2000 there is a scene where Bill Murry is wearing violet lens. Early Brady Bunch episode features Greg wearing green lenses.

  • Thanks man for that information. Haha, well it did help me, now i definitely know that i won't find them at any truckstop, have to check out eBay some more, maybe i'll find some there. I can't watch this video anymore. It gives me urges to find the shades soon.

  • These guy were awesome!!! especially the drummer!!!!! wow

  • @onedivinegarden The drummer in this video is "Quint." He wasn't the drummer on the hit recording, I was. I'm Preston Ritter. Also missing in this video is James "Weasel" Spagnola, the rhythm guitarist. I think this is from a performance in Europe (Maybe France) but both Weasel and I had left the band by the time they went there.

  • @prestonr This was in France. Replacing Weasel was Mike Gannon, originally from The Nomads.

  • the drummer is my brother - law!! (michael) hes great!!

  • @onedivinegarden Heard he quit the band and stayed in Europe during their tour here. I really like the band with him and Mike Gannon in it, pity what happend to Mike though.

  • so glad the psychedelic 60's are over. 1) it was great stuff, artistic, experimental drug influenced, colorful, improvised. 2) never could it be reproduced cuz it's meant for one generation in time (like all music, except this type is so opposite the generation prior, and that after) 3) it would have sucked if we didn't move on

  • Wow!! The real McCoy...So much better than the studio version..Darker and more menacing..Even threatening to fall apart in places..Great!

  • Methinks it's a zither

  • autoharp, a type of zither with buttons on bars you push down that block strings to create chords.

  • Qualcuno può dirmi come si chiama lo strumento che usa il cantante?

  • è un' autoharp

  • Some awesome psychedelic shit!

  • :) electric autoharp. Are they still easy to get your hands on (were they ever?)

  • Could anybody tell me whos who?

  • Danny: Mark Tulin, B and Tophat; Ken Williams, LG; Jim Lowe, LV and Autoharp; Mike Gannon, 2nd LG; Quint, aka Mike Weakley, D. Last lineup before imploding during the "Mass in F Minor" sessions. Kenny Loggins joined soon thereafter for a short stint before fame.

  • Groovy!

  • Beatnicks I tell ya the End of America.

  • Lol

  • haha

  • Aren't you guys glad I found this in the French TV archives?

  • Extremly.

  • @66rules

of course, merci! whata heavy vid

  • great the real deal

  • Live performance ! Awesome

  • what a fantastic change of pace

  • CANCION DE 1967

  • the guy with the top hat. yes.

  • Love that slit the bass speaker with a razor blade sound...You dont need a fuzz pedal, just a razor blade that's all..

  • uuh I think he's probably using the fuzz built in that VOX amp

  • Youtube rocks! Anyone with even a passing interest in The Prunes or psychedelia, I implore you to procure their UNDERGROUND album, its magnificent!

  • where ever they were playing it's obvious they were not set up to play their style of music. The guitar solo was pretty friggen nice despite the poor sound in this tin can studio stage box closet.

  • I really enjoy it when these bands play live. It show their true musicianship.

    Garage band sound-love it.

  • What sounds like someones underwear ripping Noooooooooooooooooo!

  • you were gone gone gone

  • There's a lot of Psychedelica missing from the sound on this video. But it's not bad. You can imagine it. This was the first Psychedelic song ever played on the mainstream radio in 1966.

  • @vintagezigg Not even close-

  • amazing. I love youtube.

  • Stockholm here

    ELECTRIC PRUNES.

    MY FAVORIT GROUP, since 66.

THIS VIDEO IS. (som vi säger i sverige

Det var ett häftigt video klipp)

    SUPER KANON BRA!!!!

    VERY GOOD.

  • Weasel was my second cousin. Not sure of his fate.

  • The Prunes big hit, "I Had Too Much To Dream," was NOT their only achievement.

They released a fantastic, "LP" called, "The Mass In F Minor." It was an overlooked classic.

  • Mass In F Minor really had nothing to do with the band. It was all Dave Axelrod's stupid idea. Jim sang on every track, Mark played bass on every track and Quint played drums (I think) on all of it, but that is it. They didn't write it, arrange it, conceive it, and Ken didn't play on it at all (I think).

  • I have that Mass In F Minor LP is great,

  • Unless I've become senile, these fellows are TRIPPING. At least Jim Lowe is.

  • stupendo...

  • Thank you so much for posting this. What a treasure!!!

  • thanks for sharing this. great stuff!

  • Comment removed

  • un buen amigo me recomendo este video; merece la pena, como casi todo lo que me recomienda.

PD: me encantan las gafas del cantante!

  • I think thats like a slide guitar in the singers arms. My dad told me about them and i'm glad I didn't miss them!

  • No, that's an AutoHarp. The buttons you press with your left hand move felt pads that damp the strings that you DON'T want to sound, when you strum only the strings you DO want are played.

  • no conocia este grupo, estupido de mi. increibles!

  • the drummer doens't have a hihat.

Nice songs, i like his voice.

  • great video, great sound

  • Never heard the first one before-love it! The slower live version of "I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night" is a pleasant alternative to the studio version which I still enjoy. I've got to look for their CDs.

  • can't go back/lucky to still be here/continuing to add pages to lifes book of jams

  • Awsome band "THEN CAME THE DAWN"

  • great vid/songs/band....thanks!!!

  • Thanks for sharing a great video! 5 stars!

  • Classic, I had too Much to dream.

  • omg!!!!!!!!
