  • Perhaps the worse "burberry" i ever smell! Much better London (i'm i wrong or it's not truly persistent this last?). Try next time Burberry! Compliments for your reviews: i found them interesting and funny at the same time!

    Greetings from Italy!

  • Hey katie! Let me start out by saying you are the absolute reason why I've just started to build a perfume collection for myself. I figure, you know I'm 23 almost out of college. Why not indulge a little. I wanted to get your thoughts on burberry london by burberry au de parfum. I ditched chloe for a shot at this one because my palette for perfumes is drawn towards the more powerful sensual reigning queen kind of scents...but since I want to be a teacher I need something for day. any thoughts?

  • @alanahughes88 Welcome to the crazy train of perfume obsession. It's fun to try different fragrances...it's almost like adopting a different attitude or personality with each scent.

Some lovely day perfumes I like are: Prada L'Eau Ambrée, Hermes Eau des Merveilles, Love, Chloe by Chloe and Escale à Pondichéry by Christian Dior.

  • Hey katie,

Id just like to say that your reviews are so inspiring and interesting.

I was just wondering if you would recommend Burberry the beat for men, as I am a 17 year old guy and i'm not sure if its a suitable sent. I've worn it at school and people seemed to compliment me on it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were just saying it to my face. Private schools, you either step above the crowd or be the person who is never noticed.

  • @lizzyruff Thanks so much for your kind remarks! I'm afraid I've not made my way around to Burberry the Beat for men yet, so I don't have a personal take to share with you. I do hear it's a peppery, somewhat leathery fragrance that comes on strong and takes a while to settle. If people like it, that's a good sign.

  • Are you sure you didn't try the EDT? I can't see anyone hating the EDP...everyone I've talked to is crazy about it. the two are entirely different scents.

  • @hollybee43 It was the EDP, all right. Since I did this review 2 years ago, I've softened on my meh-ness about The Beat. I appreciate that it's a good non-sickly sweet option for perfume lovers.

  • ...i received it from my bf....he sayed :" this thing comes with me" when he was in an airport.....but in the end....it's not in my sense....i don't understand nothing of it....i put it as a summer sent....i'm disapointed of this burberry....

  • this video kind of pissed me off, maybe because the beat worked so fucking good for me, oh welll.

  • Great sense of humor and your facial expressions are priceless! Could you please do a review on the classic Burberry, Burberry for women? Thank you.

  • @Gisellle818 Thanks. And thanks for reminding me to review Burberry Classic. I think it's gorgeous!

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells Katie, first of all thanks for your reviews. It helps. I've checked out fumefindercom that has suggestions for all ocassions and I'm leaning towards Tea Rose, Love Chloe and J'dore. I was hoping to find a review already or at least one Burberry suggestion in the list but couldn't. Are they not interesting fragrences? :) Anyways could I ask for a review on Burberry Brit or Sheer and Burberry London? Thanks!!

  • @chblsm I do have Burberry Classic on the list - I love that one! And I'm sad that Burberry phased out The Beat Intense Elixir - that one really improved on the original The Beat. I shall take your note and work up some more Burberry reviews.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells Yay! I just bought Burberry Classic. Glad to hear it's "Katie Approved!" :) A review on that one would be awesome!

  • On me, The Beat smells like a sweet...rubbery...plasticky..."made in taiwan" eraser in pink, yellow and blue - right out of a kid's pencil case. Not a fan!

May I request a review on Burberry - London for women. I had a sample long ago and remember it was a wee bit strong, but to me, likeable. Would love to know what you think :)

  • @NiyaXrocks I do need to roll my way around to another Burberry review at some point...

  • Comment removed

  • @LovelyMorwen Thanks for the preview...

  • Ugh... CK1 cousin? Thanks Katie, this is coming OFF my wishlist.

  • You are freakin funny. I sort of care about perfume reviews, but mostly I just want to watch you.

  • @Nerblette Heh! That works!

  • Your Ph is the reason why perfume don't last long on you

  • Thank you wery much Katie for your help! :)) all look out for those perfumes! You are gorgeous!!! :)))

  • Ohhh, Katie iam woman :D i ask for womans perfumes . :DDD

  • @Ramzess25 Oh sorry, it wasn't clear to me. In that case, you can still try Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin (it's unisex). Also try Fresh Sugar, Dior Diorella, Dior Escale à Portofino, Lancome O.

  • Thank you wery much , all look out for those perfumes!!! :))))

  • Katie can you please suggest some perfumes witch have citruss smell and they lasts long? My problem is perfumes dont last on me, help me please. Thanks.

  • @Ramzess25 Fragrances all have different levels of persistence on the skin, and citrus fragrances are the most fleeting. It's just the nature of the molecules in citrus smells. The other thing to remember is that when you get used the smell of your own fragrance, you tune it out. It's not that it's worn off, it's just that you stop being able to smell it.

  • Having said that, here are some nice citruses with longevity: Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, Christian Dior Eau Sauvage, and Jo Malone Lime, Basil & Mandarin

  • I see you have a dangerous eyebrow.

  • @electrobussterr "Dangerous eyebrow" - that's funny! No, what was really dangerous was the rosebush thorn that scraped that scar when I was 3 years old.

  • ; stay clear of the EDP, people. it smells like insect repellent spray. consider the EDT instead. white cap instead of silver. starts off much smoother and does not sting. drydown is fabulous.

  • @theMilkz Oh, and I love the Elixir version of the Beat, but I'm wondering if that was just a limited edition, since I don't see it around too much.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells i think the elixir is a limited variation of the EDP. many fragrances don't make it out into the SE asian market, sadly. personally, i've never sniffed on the elixir, but i think it would smell different from the original EDP, since the EDT smells nothing like its concentrated counterpart. however, i think they really need to redo the EDP. even after a deep breath of coffee fumes, it still smells strongly of aerosol.. :(

  • @theMilkz The Elixir is the parfum version of The Beat, and yes, it does smell different to the EDP and the EDT. It's my favorite version, and really plays up the iris. It's woodier and would be wonderful on guys, too.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells ah.. now that you mention it, the name does imply something stronger. thanks for the info. btw, subscribed to you on the very first vid! keep them coming, ms puckrick! :D

  • @theMilkz Wowie! Thanks for being a KP Smells OG! (Or OF - "original fumehead")

  • I got it because I needed something inoffensive for my workplace, and it seems to be working well for me. Sure, it is not hugely original, but not so completely unoriginal as well...

  • @NorthernNightSky I have to revise my original "eh" opinion on The Beat, because there aren't many spicy/woody/easy for work scents out there, and The Beat covers that area quite well.

  • Can you review Yves Saint Laurent's Cinéma?

It's not a scent people tend to grab for, especially young ones, but I used to always wear it... But I can't make my mind up about it ... Thanks.

  • Can you do a review on burberry brit eau de toilette Thanks :)

  • @Missjuicy1616 Thanks for the suggestion. I should do that one.

  • I really like the beat. It's different from other scents i think. I've been smelling a lot of perfumes that are sweet, fruity and floral, this is different and appealing imo. I like the masculine scent of it. Are there other perfumes that have that masculine smell that you would recommend for women?

  • @JenS32 I agree that The Beat is a welcome respite to all the sweet perfumes out there. There's a parfum version of The Beat called Beat Elixir that you should try to find, too. It's the same kind of smell, but a little different, more woody iris. Also try these: Hermès Eau des Merveilles Christian Dior Escale à Pondichéry Lolita Lempicka Lolita Lempicka Kenzo Eau de Fleur de The Nanette Lepore Nanette YSL Elle Find these on the men's side - they smell great on us: Bulgari Black Chanel Égoïste
  • I love the beat =O and I always get compliments about it, people going 'what is that smell?' *snifsnif* 'oh is that you? what perfume are you wearing?' :)

  • @ShadowPhoenixRukia Sounds like the Beat is really working for you. Since I posted this review over a year ago, I've softened on my opinion of The Beat. There's such a dearth of mainstream perfumes that aren't sweet and syrupy, and The Beat provides a much-needed alternative to those.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells happy to hear that you like it more now ^^ just bought my second bottle of The Beat, I still didn't get bored with it after two years of usage :)

  • what is the beginning and ending song? :)

  • @IStriveForPerfection It's "Perfume" by Sparks, from their "Hello Young Lovers" album.

  • I totally love this perfume....I get nonstop compliments from all ages that it smells great and different. I am perfume fanantic and by far this is the best purchase I have ever made,

  • @rubielicious Good to hear The Beat is working out for you. Have you tried the elixir version? I'm a bit of a broken record on it, but I it's my preferred version of this perfume.

  • Want to like the Beat but it gives me a headache every time I have it on... :(

  • @nattga I've discovered a variation on The Beat that I like: The Beat Elixir. It's parfum strength, but it actually wears softer and a bit woodier.

  • how do you like burberry brit? im thinking of purchasing it but want to know if its worth it?

  • @Lindseeyyy17XO For what it's worth, I do like Burberry Brit. It's a nice blend of woody/floral/fruity with a bit of almond. It's lovely. The Sheer version is nice, too.

  • I love The Beat for men. Then again, I love pepper. Go figure.

Katie, I didnt know that The Beat for women also comes in Eau Du Toilette which I found at Sephora. It smells so much better than the perfume version.

  • @Kerosenetrewthe If you can find The Beat Elixir for women, you should check it out for youself. It's drier than the other ones, an has an expensive-smelling iris aspect. Definitely on the masculine side.

  • I really disagree with this review. I purchased The Beat because it smelled unlike any of the other purfumes in a magazine. I love the little "is that vanilla?" smell it has and the masculinity is what makes it sexy and strong not fruity or floral.

  • @KasadiaIsEverything Y'know, I'm starting to disagree with this review, too. Since I shot this a year ago, I've changed my tune on The Beat. It really does fill an under-served slot in perfumes these days, which are predominantly sweet sweet sweet. The Beat is one of the few fragrances that doesn't either smell like candy or like a flower bouquet. So I'm with you!

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells Also, I'm loving the amped-up version, The Beat Elixir, which is even woodier (smells like iris) and would be great on guys, too.

  • try D&G light blue is amazing =] just a lil pricey for me

  • I shall - I'm getting lots of requests for a review of it.

  • i really like your reviews and as silly as it may sound, i only buy fragrances that you approve of. i bought this fragrance before seeing your review, and it does smell almost like a generic magazine strip.. i still like wearing it because I get many compliments on how pretty i smell. I suppose it smells less generic on me.. lol. Can you do a review on Dolce and Gabbana's light blue when you get the chance? I would appreciate it!

  • Well, of course I'm flattered to hear that, but also want to encourage you to use my reviews as a guide & not as the be-all, end-all law. & if you get compliments on The Beat, those are the best reviews of all!

Since I posted this review, I've come to realize that there aren't many fragrances out there that fill the spot that The Beat does: a subtle, spicy-woodsy-tea scent that isn't sugary sweet like most teen-oriented perfumes. & it must be commended for that.

Light Blue is on my to-do list

  • the mens version smells like strait up pepper

  • Good to know.

  • smell ur freaking armpit first, i bet u wouldnt wanna make a vid out of it

  • Huh?

  • I really liked this perfume when I sprayed myself at Macy's and bought a bottle, but it isn't so exciting and amazing smelling now that I have a huge bottle =( lol

  • Mona, it's the ol' "thrill of the chase" scenario. I'm the same way.

  • It seems like you don't like any of the perfumes that you "smell".

  • I do try to give a very descriptive overview of the scents I review, & my images and metaphors are unconventional, but I try hard to bring the smell to life.

I actually enjoy most of the fragrances I discuss...you can see my "thumbs up" reviews under my "Katie's Favorites" playlist.

Admittedly, The Beat wasn't one of my faves, but I've since come to acknowledge that there's really nothing else like it on the market that hits that spicy, not-to-sweet spot. So I give it credit for that.

  • As you now know, I have zero smell-ability.

Once I asked a boy what Baby Oil smelled like.

    He said, "Product"

This review is so much more enlightening and I can imagine "Chemical" as being producty / synthetic. "Turn the page"

  • Hmm, "product". That's funny.

  • The beat is a wonderful perfume I always get compliment when I'm wearing it . :)

  • lol The perfume that I get the most compliments on smells very generic to me-- it's by Candies. Guys go crazy over it, but I feel like smells like every other magazine sample out there : / Weird!

  • Go figure!

  • @raddestqueen

I always wondered about that! My boyfriends always turned their noses away at my favourite perfumes but drolled when I got harassed by the perfume spritzing maniac at the mall dispensing what can only be described as a rotten fruitbowl drenched in strawberry koolaid...

  • Heh! Some guys are stuck in their caveman tastes: "mmm...pretty...bleached blondie...boobies...smells like candy...me likeee!"

  • Hey Katie have you smelled Guess Gold and Burberry Brit? what do they smell like? I liked your Kanye West "best perfume of all time" vid ha ha

    xo

    aubrey

  • Hi Aubrey - Glad you got a chuckle out of Kanye interrupting me. He's everywhere!

I haven't smell those 2 perfumes you mentioned.

  • Barbie doll head odor LOL! I remember it well!

  • is she talking about a bad odor? I remember getting a barbie out of the box and I thought her hair smelt good. a little flowery but very very light.

  • It's not a bad odor, just a very distinctive one. It smells like vanilla plastic.

  • Generic, ouch !

  • i have two bottles of this stuff

  • Two bottles of the same perfume? Were they presents, or are you stocking up?

I've gotten presents before of perfume that people know that I've liked, but then I've already moved onto the next thing...

  • well one was a present the bigger one and then my mom found the smaller one on sell so she gave it to me but i did use the bigger one up i kinda like it

  • The Beat kind of covers all the bases - it's a bit spicy, a bit musky, a bit sweet and a bit woody.

  • yes i use in the fall but i was hoping you could do a review on dolce and gabbana light blue please

  • Will you review Inspiration by Lacoste and Polo Blue by Ralph Lauren?

  • Wow~ I was obsessed in your video~ good job and bye

  • "TURN THE PAGE??" oH SNAP!

  • Would you mind reviewing the Burberry classic and the Burberry Summer 2009? I like Chance by Chanel EDT and was wondering if you could reccomend something. I am almost out of my 2nd bottle of Chance and want something different.

  • My other thoughts for you are Christian Dior Miss Dior Chérie Leau (sweety-fruity grounded with light patchouli)

Tocca Cleopatra (sensual woods & jasmine contrasted with fresh grapefruit & cucumber notes)

Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail (sweet citrus, incense, tropical flowers & musk)

Gap The Lover (soft apricot & sensual patchouli)

  • The Lover is one of my favorite recent discoveries its a sexy skin scent, not in-your-face. And Im so mad to hear that its being discontinued!!! Check it out at the Gap stores, cuz its half-price!

  • which do you prefer -- Burbery Beat or Burbery London?

  • does this last for a long time?

  • It did on me!

  • thx, would you recomend it for a guy"?

  • I think the women's Burberry Beat would be great on a guy - it's definitely unisex its feel, and it doesn't have the usual aerosoley "sneezy" guy cologne smell to it.

  • thanks, would u also recomend elle by Yves Saint Laurent? or gucci by gucci for a 17 year old guy?

  • I would absolutely recommend both of those for a guy. They're both woody, spicy and interesting. I'm impressed with your adventuresome taste - even in simply checking out fragrances marketed to women!

A wonderful men's fragrance that I love to wear myself is Chanel Égoïste (the original, which is harder to find than the Platinum version). Égoïste is a sensual blend of spices, rose and sandalwood - you should try that one, too.

  • thank you so much :)

  • Can you review something that smells sort of like fresh tea and mint? Something FRESH! Any scent you'd prefer that smells like that please.

  • Good idea. This is the 2nd tea fragrance question I've had today! I'll get something together for you tea freshies.

  • I think that all the Burberry fragrances smell the same? Does anyone else think this?

  • i do think so

  • did u review Burberry Summer?

  • why does burberry made perfume that smells so strong?i can't even wear it. i feel old and wasted if i wear it lol

  • lol this review is funnny.

  • my siqnature scent is angel by thierry muglier

  • Comment removed

  • The Beat is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i don't like it at all! BLEK

  • i absolutely love the beat! it's my signature fragrance!

    LOVE LOVE LOVE

  • Isn't it great to be able to make yourself feel good just by spritzing something on? It's like a form of magic!

  • Amazing reviews. Thank you!

  • Thanks indeedy!

  • i love the beat, they have one out for mens too now :)

  • I think I prefer the men's Beat to the women's....

  • i like the mens, well i only have the mens :)

    cuz i'm a guy

  • haha i guess i like smelling generic. I actually love the beat I got it for my birthday and it's my favourite scent right now.

  • You know, everyone's drawn to different fragrances, for different reasons. And if The Beat is making you feel fabulous, then that's a beautiful thing!

  • Could you do a review on Lola by Marc Jacobs? I'm wearing it today, but I'm not sure how I like it. Apparently it was really successful in Europe and has been around for a long time.

  • I'm finding Lola a little harsh and woody and annoying. I prefer the new Nanette by Nanette Lapore a nicer version of that woody/spicy/floral thing.

If you love The Beat, I wonder what you'd think of D&G Anthology #6, L'Amoureaux? I'm trying to figure out if they hit the same spot.

  • I thought it smelled alot like peony flowers, watered down, like I could hardly smell it. I was dissappointed too, I like to think of this perfume as hipster catnip; lol

  • Hmm.. that's a sad review for a Burberry scent

I really liked Burberry London.. for fall/winter, of course

  • thanks for the hot tip katie i like your reviews! and btw whats the song playing in the credits?

  • The song is "Perfume" by Sparks, from their album "Hello Young Lovers".

  • Love the way you speak...

    And.. you're beautiful!!!

  • Yeah, I like the way she speaks too she should do stand up comedy she makes me laugh!

  • Barbie doll head! You were one angry child when you were little. ;) But I get what you mean, Barbie went to Malibu, got laid by Ken, and their end result was the beginning stench of The Beat. I didn't like it much either...and I actually did turn the page when I smelled the sample.

  • I beg to differ - I was actually a happy, joyful child. But I did make my Barbies be hookers. It was one of their many "adventures" as secret agent Barbies.

  • I always made mine get kidnapped. :O Either that or they were mermaids.

  • I felt the same way about The Beat it just didn't do anything for me.Like you said turn the page.I expect this one to be at TJ Max real soon.

  • It has already arrived at Tj Maxx and Marshalls (the gift sets for 59.99).

  • You're on the case, sharyssa1!

  • just bought this today and I love it!

  • It's so helpful to get feedback with a different point of view, especially since fragrance appreciation is so subjective. It helps to build up a total picture of the scent.

I'd love to hear how it's working for you!

  • lol!! last year for xmas i was ALMOST bought this perfume.. but then i was attracted BRIT SHEER! and i like it =).. but it kinda reminds me anna sui the secret wish (green bottle!) thanks for the review cuz i almost buy this one anyways too! and i dont like heavy smells =) oxox

  • Thanks for the input, Maryszhita! If you don't like heavy smells, you did the right thing by getting Brit Sheer over this one.

  • Arethra Franklin is an alien sent from the planet neptune on a highly significant mission to exterminate the human race. Spread the word.

  • moonisnot might want to watch the entire vid before you comment. Most commercials don't end like her review did.

  • oh look, the vid in the spotlight is a commecial. one star for you

  • I THOUGHT IT WAS CUTE

  • i don't want to bye that stuff it's junk

  • U R Single?

  • sparks is pretty cool

  • all synthetic fragrance is toxic to the brain and detrimental to the very fragile neurochemistry.

toxic chemicals are toxic whether they smell like ammonia or spring summer lemon lime daiquiris ;-]

  • whats the name of the song lol i love it

  • It's "Perfume" by Sparks, from their "Hello Young Lovers" album.

  • what do you think about the juicy couture ones?

  • I was just pondering those the other day - thinking about doing a full-on review for the channel. I don't think they're bad at all, for the youthful/playful genre of fragrances. I do prefer the original one to the new "Viva La Juicy" one, which seems to be singing a tune I've already heard too much already. But I'd like to take a closer sniff at both Juicys.

  • it has a nailpolish remover smell to me

  • Katie,

Never heard back...did you get the email?

    Doug

  • oh my goodness, My mom used to wear CK1 alll the time, The first perfume I ever wore...besides you know the fake ones that my told me was perfume but was really lemon juice with water,...or vanilla and water. I smelled like a bakery as a kid. No wonder I was popular in kindergarten.

  • You are so great with witty descriptions! Love it! I would love to know which perfume are your personal favorites?!

  • My favorites change a couple times a year, but right now, I adore Chanel Coromandel, Le Labo Labdanum 18 and Jean Desprez Bal a Versailles. But I feel a Serge Lutens Chergui, Amouage Homage Attar and Tom Ford Noir de Noir moment coming on...

What these all have in common is that they're rich, deep orientals, smoky and sexy and delicious.

  • Im addicted to your videos lol, there ace. =)

  • Still loving the reviews... and the opening music level is PERFECT! Thanks! :-)

  • Thanks for being my "ears"!

  • Awesome. Keep the videos coming!

  • u should review Lush products and the Hollister perfume

  • Love your vids. Can you do a review on armani perfumes. I liked Remix and City Glam . Would be interested to hear what you'd have to say?

  • Burberry is associated with chavs in England nowadays, not sure if you still live here. Hard to belive they started out making trench coats for officers in WW1

  • sounds like Philosophys falling in love, everyone raved about it and the longer it was on the more it smelt like tweed to me yaaaaaaaaaaaak lol :0)

    xxxJoolsxxx

  • Yes, Katie, those Burberry folks need to stick to fabric & stay out of the fragrance business. Wet wool smells better...

  • I Love you. lol. U rock.

  • Yes I agree. This perfume smelled okay at first, but then the longer I wore it, the worse it got. Maybe it just doesn't match my chemistry, but I hated it. It gave me a headache after a while. sheesh

  • i got dizzy with the smell ...lol

  • huh. ok then! I would be interested to know what you think of the other Burberry scents.

  • sounds... interesting

    thanks for the review :D

would it be possible to do armani diamonds?

    thank you :D

  • Va-va-voom lashes in this one. Looks good Kattie!

  • Thanks, M-tastic!

  • Vanilla plastic sounds fab, its just a shame about the second part.

I have to try this one for myself!

  • Whether a fragrance is to my taste or not, I encourage everyone to try everything - perfume-luv is so personal to the individual!

And yes, "Barbie Doll-head" is an accord that pops up in the most unexpected places. Angela at LuckyScent/Scent Bar describes Nanadebary Pink has having the doll head smell, and NP is one of her faves.

  • Are you doing a Harajuku Lovers review?

No one I'm subscribed to has done one yet :( and I'm obsessed with them right now!

I have Angel which smells like a boozy pineapple drink, and Baby which smells(to me) like Fairy washing up liquid at first, then it settles to smell like vanilla-ish baby powder. Yummy!

  • K-Panda - I agree with your assessment of both of those. And you'll be glad to hear that I have a Harajuku Lovers review coming up - a collab with Lauren/Panacea81. PLUS, I have lots of great Harajuku Lovers giveaways for this one, so stay tuned!
