Even after having played Falcon 4.0 and FSX, I still have great fun playing Chuck Yeager Air Combat. It may be old but it is so well done that it stands the test of time, in my opinion at least.

What made CYAC so good was that it combined realism, and accessibility.

I must have played this hundreds of hours. I completed every mission on hard and I miss it. The sound was awesome for the time and it seemed like it was years before anything better came along. I would argue that there has never been a finer combat flight sim. What I mean is that nothing ever duplicated the feel and fun of this game, or it's attempt at realism. I'd pay anything for a modern remake.

Don't know why every fighter game has people attacking head to head Real life dogfighting Wasn't like that yes you had to come face to face with the enemy but there was 2 places you didn't want to be and thats infront of your enemy or head to head be cause you had a 50/50 chance of winning most would pull a high yo yo before gun range

Classic indeed. I remember when my relatives in Maine got their first computer, a 486 which was standard at the time, and this was the best game they had on it. Later sims came along with even better physics engines but CYAC still holds a special place for some of us.

You need DOSBOX, I played it on XP using that program, needed an older joystick though, don't think any USB joystick would work.

You do need an old joystick. DOSBOX will detect a usb joystick but it doesn't work right in this game.

I had both PC and Mac versions, Mac's was in glory 640X480 resolution, it was an amazing game back then, great for not so serious flt sim players, the mission are fun and simple, if this game gets a face lift, say better plane graphics, I bet it will still be popular.

Plus you could use ResEdit to add your own graphics and sound effects.

I used to know when my windscreen got shot because a stick-on Garfield doll would appear there.

Needless to say the .snd files got hacked as well, and much profanity ensued.

Take a look at DCS Black Shark, Lock On Flaming Cliffs, FSX. Them are not a things from the past, and them are definitely superior in "flight simming" then old games.

This game kicked ass for it's time, much of the flight physics were just like that of the aircraft. When you went into a stall, flaps down would buy you some time, bullets worked just like tracers, flight envelope was pretty accurate. Great game.

I remember I bought Accolade Blue Angels, thinking it was a flight sim. NOT! You could never go into a stall, you could actually stop in mid-air. No physics whatsoever. The goal of the game was to just fly through some hoops which were Blue Angel maneuvers. It was dumb to say the least.

Chuck Yeagers Air Combat was the best one for the time.

you should have tried the Mac version, 640X480 resolution, not as pixelated as PC version
