  • Hey, what was the age range for you lads? Well done on getting in! Cheers.

  • @DpDr13, 24 up to 31 I think.

  • wot did u guys put for the damn PQA section???? lol

  • Thanks mate, i know about the shift patterns, damn those new hours will b tuff for you tho! Gd gd coz im from hertfordshire and wud also get train its only half hour into central london lol. How have you coped with traumatic scenes? Wot is probation period like coz in america probies seem to get a lot of shit! lol

  • Gd gd, i know that training aint like it used to be. Id never be late lol, but can you live outside london to do it? I know the work patterns are hard, how do you manage it? thanks

  • You can live outside London, I live in Kent and used to catch the train each day to the training centre, some guys got digs for the 17 weeks!!! I drive up now, park on the edge of the city and cycle into my station. We work 2 days then 2 nights, you get used to doing shifts and its nice to have time off during the week, the paten is going to stay stay the same but our hours of work are changing, days will be 9am to 8pm and nights will be 8pm till 9am, not good!

  • Hi, good video, ive always wanted to be a firefighter but never gone through with it, always debating about being killed and wages lol. How hard is the training, is it really traumatic, how did you deal with seeing traumatic scenes? Thanks

  • Training for London is about 17 weeks, for most of it is done at Southwark Training centre, but some parts you will go to a local training centre, ie, another fire station to train. It's not to bad, if you get an old timer talking about it, they will soon tell you it's a lot easier now than in there time, and to be honest they may be right. Just don't be late what ever you do!

As for getting hurt, it is very rare.

  • im 19 in about 3 months looking to apply but worried my age is gonna get in the way? and is the training as hard as they make out or ? send us a message in response if you get a minute thanks

  • Your age should not be a problem, i would go out and see bit more of the world before coming into the job, it will always be here. I went round the world before coming back to the UK and came into London. The training is about 17weeks at Southwark training center, you will spend a month at a training place to do pumps and ladders, then back to training center. The training is not that hard, not as hard as it used to be. Just get your head in the books, dont, for gods sake be late!

  • I wunt to be a fire man i am 17 comming 18 soon how to you get in to that

  • @mrleonlad, Hi, it took me 6yrs of trying to get in to the fire service, i was part time in Kent Fire and Rescue Service for 8yrs then i was lucky and got into London. The county brigades dont take on firefighters that often, you may be better trying to get into a big city brigade (London, Manchester ect) then after 2yrs then try and move back.. It's a good job if you can get in, you just have to keep trying.
