  • you r awsome!!!!!

  • thanks for the tips on BCT but was wondering if you would mind answering a question: Are girls allowed to wear their hair down if it is short enough?

See my hair has exsessive bulk and a lot of curl to it that makes it difficult to do anything with it. I know girls are not permitted to have their hair in ponytails so I was wondering if just having it down all the time would be alright during BCT.

  • my girl just left for MCT and it breaks my heart because she goes straight to job training. :'( not gona see her for at least 4 months

  • why does it matter about her eyebrows

  • why do you shave you eyebrows and color some on?

  • @racerboy12345 I don't. If you noticed, I am blonde. So are my eyebrows. I just use a black pencil to shade them in. Sometimes brown, mostly black.

  • You have my respect

  • I'm joining the Army in three years and I was wondering if the girls are nice to eachother.

  • @smildonfatalis1 its the army, not the Marines.

  • can people in the army have relations

  • anyone with bct or ait questions message me i just got back from ait in march so i know p to date stuff

  • Can you bring sunscreen?

  • @flowers45621 I recommend that Soldiers of all colors and creeds bring sunscreen. The drill sergeants will not take sunscreen or lotion from you.

  • @1987bamf Thank you. :)

  • im shipping on June 7 2011 :) , Fort Benning.

  • Is birth control allowed on base? I have a brand that stops my period for 3 months.

  • @MiladyMurderer Your prescriptions can be reviewed by a medical doctor. Chances are, you will not have it re-prescribed in basic, but rather in AIT when you get your annual lady exam. If you get the shot, my suggestion is to get it a few days before you ship off for basic. Otherwise, wait until you get to your unit and then get Mirena.

  • i am going to basic in april and my husband is already in the army and i ask him questions and he just gives me, I dont know im not a girl. I am just worried about when i get my period, are you able to go to the bathroom when needed? like what if you have emergency in the morning like you wakeup and your like oh shit i started my flippin period. Do you go that entire nine weeks without shaving your legs/ under arms and without being able to pluck your eye brows? thanks

  • @kljordan89 I started my period the day I arrived and asked to use the bathroom. My female drill told me to bleed on my pants.

You can shave your legs and arms, but you can't pluck your brows.

  • @1987bamf She told you to bleed in your pants? WTF. Fml, I am scheduled to start my period the day before I leave for basic. Awesome.

  • can i take my own compression under armour briefs? i have a testicular cyst and it hurts if i run, if i dont have compression shorts. im sure theyre available at the PX but id like to spend the least amount of money possible

  • I know you made this video a month ago, so I'm not sure if I'll get a response. I'm kinda curious to how many bra's you are permitted to bring with you to basic?

  • @AngelaLail I made this over a year ago. Bring several. I had about 7 or 8. There is no limit.

  • Does your hair have to be short? I have really long hair so will they chop it off?

  • @billyfoo1 Nope. My hair was long when I went to basic. It was when I went to AIT in Texas that I cut it off so I didn't have to fiddle with it. It's your choice. Long hair is OK. My hair is long, now, given I have more than 10 minutes to get ready in the morning and I have my own bathroom.

  • thank you so much lovely lady for taking the time to share this tips with us, i'm leaving to bct tomorrow so you just gave me a little more of encouragement through these tips. :D

  • are you allowed to bring: vaseline, lotion, shampoo & conditioner, body wash, soap, nail clipper, razors, and your own towels & wash clothes? thanks so much! and i have super long hair! and i am girly so in AIT do these rules change? if you could make a video on AIT that would be much appreciated! thanks so much!

  • For Army regulation, go to Goggle seach and type "Army Regulation 670-1 chapter 1-8". This will list some site on Regulation 670. This will be good ideal to read about regulation on Army. There even have rule on male sideburn. Read the book.

  • so i can get my hair cut really short before basic so i dont have to deal with it? not shaved or anything just in what is called a "pixie cut" ..... like victoria beckams i guess. is that too short?

  • @sweetgeorgiapeach08 That's fine. You only need an inch.

  • this has been really really helpful! thanx for uploading ths long time ago.

i do have a question though, u mentioned that our hair or appearence should be femenine, as in long hair?. my hair used to be rally long and wavy but i cut it bc of personal reasons. now i have an small mohawk* i will be shaving it soon bc my hair grows pretty fast. do u think i'll get in trouble since is not long anymore or bc i shave it ?

  • @eilatanao Army Regulation 670-1 chapter 1-8 prohibits females from shaving their heads. You need at least 1 inch of hair, and a mohawk is also prohibited. I suggest having at least two or three good inches of hair. There is a female in my unit who has short hair, it's about an inch in the back and maybe three inches on top. You do not need long hair, just can't have shaved hair.

  • @1987bamf okay :) thank you very much. i swear i was gonna shave it this weekend. so i'll just be gettin a short short hair cut but not shaved got it. again gracias por todo.

  • the prettiest girl i've ever seen in the military by far.

  • Thanks...so thats a no to the books and paper lol how many pairs of socks and underwear should i bring? can we bring hairspray from home or should i just wait till they take me to buy them? Thanks so much for the information!

  • @32chelita I took about 5 sports bras and 1 regular bra and then I had enough underwear and socks to last for a week. Bring hairspray, you don't wanna be that female that stands out. Make sure you conform to Army Regulation 670-1 chapter 1-8.

  • I'm leaving on the 24th of this month and just wanted to know what i should pack or not pack besides what's on the list....I have a friend that just got out of AIT and he mentioned that i should bring extra pair of civilian clothes for AIT and maybe some books, pens and paper. Is this true or will i just get in trouble?...also that we can't shave...wha'ts the poingt of putting razzors and shaving cream in the list if we wont be alowed to use them?

  • @32chelita Don't over pack, bring things you NEED. Your Drill Sergeant is just going to make you hold up your bag for like 10 minutes, and the more you pack, the harder it will be. You can shave, I don't know where you heard you couldn't. If you don't want to shave for 9 weeks, that's up to you, but I shaved almost daily while I went. You can't bring them on the plane, so I'd buy some disposable razors and a small can of shaving cream when they take you to the shoppette for the first time.

  • are you allowed to pack moisturizers? or your own soap?

  • @bettyjoon3 yes

  • Thanks for all the information,I found it really useful!

I was wondering, what type of product do you use to get rid of the flyaways? I usually have them at the top of my head and I KNOW that the drill sergeants are going to say something if I don't do something for them.

  • @CutiePie1018195 I have Japanese hair wax. But any type of wax will do. You can also try applying gel before pulling it into a ponytail or a lot of hair spray.

  • @1987bamf okay,thank you soooo much!

  • such a good video answered alot of questions i had and questions i didn't know i had thank you, how are the girls treated? i heard that your a slut bitch or dike

  • OK, I know this is a weird question but, in basic do you have to shower in an open shower? I am just really shy, but if so it won't stop me from joining, I will get over it. But, just wondering. Thanks.

  • for not wearing make up in the army, you are fricken gorgeous!

  • dats effin sexy.....when you started speakin in spanish...cought me off guard

  • @jenniferl9 I highly recommend you get used to pads, as you do not know when the DS will let you go to the latrine and leaving a tampon in could pose life-threatening risks. If you get a DS like mine, she refused to let me go to the bathroom... but back then the BDUs were made of better material unlike these crappy ACUs. Anyway, we have small pockets by our ankles, just stick a couple pads or tampons in there and you're all set. If a male laughs, fuck him.

  • The Absolute Loveliest Lady In The Army!

Great video & actually very helpful!

I leave for BCT in July @ Fort Benning, GA!

    ;-)

  • What is it like for the officer candidates in your BCT, if you had any? My recruiter told me that the OCS candidates are picked on the most.

  • Wish i would have seen when i first went to basic. I like how you mention the DS. DON'T Sleep with your Drill sergeant plz! For god sakes its just not worth it. Don't ruin their careers. Great advice for everything. I'm not sure if you mentioned spandex but i would grab about three pair of Black spandex to take with you as well. We were able to wear make up on graduation day but very LIGHT. like just mascara so its not even worth bringing make up.

  • @princessfairy85 Why spandex?

  • Are you allowed to take hairspray to basic?

  • @jacketgal1 you cannot take aerosol cans on a plane, however you can check your bags and pack your hairspray in there. I recommend something that is very strong and long lasting, such as Bed Head. Wax might help, too. I use wax on the pony tail part of my bun so I have no fly aways, then I spray it good with hair spray.

  • @jacketgal1 no ur not at least where i went ur not allowed to have aerosol cans in your lockers

  • how long have you been the service?

  • @violentwilant 6 years. I've mentioned this several times and it's also on my profile.

  • Not sure why people keep asking what your MOS is. Obviously she doesnt want to share that information, fellas. :) Great tips, 1987bamf. I'm shipping to Ft. Knox OSUT on April 7th. 19D Cav. Scout. I'm pretty pumped. :)

  • during pt you said you ran about 5 or 6 miles during the run is it mandatory to stay in a group or after the 2 miles are you allowed to pace yourself in whatever spend necessary for you to complete the other 3 or 4 miles because i work out with recruits once a week with mostly guys. i am very short and when we run we stay in a group and since i am very short im running a lot harder then the guys and is exhausted by the first 2 miles

  • @msjtheriot Height is no excuse. I am 5'0 and I run 10 miles in 75 minutes. You stay with the group and when the group circles back to pick you up because you fell out, the DS will heckle you and just yell. it's your best bet to start to run now. Work on sprints to get yourself faster.

  • Most importantly, don't sweat the small stuff. Think of the extreme discipline as a game and you'll play it the way you're supposed to. Things aren't nearly as tough in the real army and when you finally deploy overseas you'll finally see how relaxed everything is. The extreme discipline is just there for you to build a skeletal disciplinary framework to base yourself off of when dealing with all things military. Good luck!

  • 1987bamf.... whats your MOS??? I pack *running shoes*, some pair of sucks, underwear, locks, some other stuff to... is ok??

  • @cristhian1021 I have several, which do you want?

  • Im a guy and i was told that i needed to leave my earings out so my whole could close up or i couldnt ship to basic...is that true...i mean you can barely see the holes

  • @qwaisc You can't have piercings in. You don't have to have them closed. Post commanders will state whether men can have their earrings in, and most posts do allow it (out of uniform, of course).

  • how is all this a requirment? what is your MOS and where did u go to basic

  • Thank you for the advice. I'll be leaving for OCS this summer

  • I ship off to BCT on 20100615, and I'll be going to Fort Sill, OK. What's life like in the barracks? Are some people rude? Should everyone just stick to theirselves?

  • @chicaLA92 You don't have to be a hermit, but people talk.

  • @chicaLA92 yeoo i ship 20100706 to fort sill ok too! whats your MOS?

  • Comment removed

  • @LilE110109 No, you cannot pluck eyebrows in basic training.

I suggest working on your grammar before the asvab.

  • okay well im off on february and its comin real soon im really excited....should i be this excited ???lol

  • "hair spray, hair ties that match your hair color, clips that match your hair"

    Is this a requirement?

  • Clips and hair ties are a requirement.

Hair spray isn't perse, but if your hair looks like shit expect for any NCO with some sense to jump down your throat.

  • No, I meant why do they have to be the same colour?

  • Professionalism. Not to mention if you have jet black hair with white hairties, you look like an all-around douchebag and it's really tacky. Plus, it takes away from the uniform, meaning is deemed a distraction. The same goes with excessive make up and extreme colors.

  • Ah, okay. That's understandable. Thanks!

  • How much sleep do you get at bct? i'm off to fort sill in june..ugh ...5 days before my birthday so i'm super excited lol..and just want to know what to expect.

  • Sometimes they woke us up every hour on the hour. But mostly the males f*ed up and the females were good to go. But they always ARGUED before bed, and it made me mad because there is nothing to argue about at 2100 knowing we have to all be up at 0500.

  • was it harder as a female? or was there any problem in that nature due to being a female?

  • thanks so much I am in the process of signing up for the army reserve and going to basic soon. thanks for the tips!

  • you'd be hotter if u had eyebrows.

  • @HockeyFanNick I have natural blonde hair, which gives me blonde eyebrows. Which means they are there, just penciled in.

They are not plucked in this video, nor do I need to pluck them.

  • Gracias por la informacion.

  • Pack some chew and dip because those went for up to 40 bucks a can in my battery and just hide them in your pockets.

  • @OrientOranges yeah, and get caught get recycled or if you have a dick commander, you just get kicked out.

  • "Do NOT flirt or sleep with any drill sergeants."

Didn't know that was an issue that needed to be addressed. lol

  • When I stopped by Fort Jackson in November of 2008, there was at least a platoon full of females that were being chaptered out for sleeping with a drill sergeant.

  • Wow. Is it as big of a problem with the guys?

  • I wish. Never heard of any female DS's sleeping with guys, and if you looked at a female for more than 5 seconds you can get written up for sexual harrassment - they don't play around with that stuff.

  • Hi thanks for the info. I'm fixing to go to Parris Island. I know its not the Army... but its something that I can put towards leaving for P.I.-Thanks

  • one more question-

what do u need a civilian outfit for?

    just wondering.

  • When you leave. You cannot fly in your uniform.

  • very helpful.

    thanx!

  • During bct when you are doing pt can u wear ur hair up in a ponytail or a messy bun, etc..?

  • No, your hair needs to be at standards AT ALL TIMES in all uniforms.

You try it and I guarantee you and EVERY female will be dropped.

  • okay, thank u!!!

  • I have been wondering this but for bras do they have to be white what about your underwear? Should I bring a couple of regular bras?

  • They're "supposed" to be the color of your skin. But, white is fine. You can wear black, as well.

You need a regular bra for your Class B uniform which you will be getting fitted for in Blue Phase and wear for graduation.

  • i really like this im female and ive always wondered about the "feminine" stuff you always here the mans side. so this helped thank you very much!

  • This might sound funny but what happens when you got you period in during basic training?

  • You just carry pads/tampons in your cargo pocket and change when you get the opportunity.

With all the stress, be prepared not to have one. I was grateful I didn't have mine from June until September.

  • I know we can't take make up but can we take moisturizer? Or are we allowed to get it at the PX. I leave for bct at the end of Dec.

  • Yes, moisturizer and lotion are allowed. Especially sunblock. You can stop by the PX and buy it, too, if you do not bring it with you and would like to assure yourself by asking the DS.

  • Thank you! You're so amazing for helping us with this stuff!!!!

  • I know there's no make up and that's fine with me I don't really wear much lately anyway but can we take moisturizer? I'm religious about moisturizer lol

  • What if your hair is too short to put in a bun? Any suggestions..?

  • Your hair has to be out of your face.

I suggest clips the same color as your hair and pulling it all back as much as you can.

  • is the bct PT hard or is it just like lacross or football

  • yea it is.

  • have you found any good videos like this for males? =D

  • I can make a video for males if you like. I can scan regulations and post what I know.

  • that be cool. i was in JROTC in HS, but just though it be nice to see the regulations on foot lockers before I go and what I should/can/shouldn't bring to BCT

  • Im shipping off to basic in two weeks..I'm not sure what to do with my hair. Mine is down past my shoulder blades, idk if I should cut it or just keep it up. How much time will you have in basic to put up your hair?

  • You get about 30 minutes of personal time in the morning before P.T. to make your bed, do your hair, and draw your weapon. It took me about 5 minutes to pull my hair up in the morning. After P.T. you get about another 30 minutes. That's where you want your hair to be perfect. During P.T. it's okay if it's a LITTLE messy. It's bound to fall down during P.T. anyways.

  • Okay awesome, I'll definately have enough time then. It only takes me about 5 minutes for mine as well.

Thank you so much for posting this video, it was really helpful!!

  • just got back from Ft. benning

    Infantry Trainning

    airborne

    going back for RIP soon

  • damn she looks good

  • yes ma'm I do mean Basic. I already have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering at a nationally accredited college. My MOS is 15B. But I believe what you said about everybody starts as a private while they are in Basic training. That's fine with me. I also believe in the saying "earning one's keep" ;) so I'm there to work hard and earn my rank the best way possible. hooah!

  • I can barely hear you but you're tips are very helpful. thanks for this. (p.s. I'm a private once I come in Basic but I'll be a SPC once I'm done. I can't wait to go to IET! )

  • IET= initial entry training. I think you mean basic.

Also, to be a SPC, you need 18 months Time in Service and 6 Months time in Grade.

Unless you have a 90 college credits, then you can get it "automatically."

  • hmm

If I enlist, lets say in the Army or Marine Corps

Am I guarantee to be deploy for combat in Afghanistan? I really really want to go there, I'm itchin' for a fight.

I want to have a confirm kill if you know what I mean.

  • No. Unless you're infantry or infantry-related. In the 5 years I've been enlisted, I've been to one unit that's deployed.

  • I'm going to enlist in the Army Infantry... around 6 months from now or maybe less... I'll see... good luck to you...

  • Wow, you shouldnt join the army if you want to put on makeup at basic? WTF?!

If you are staring someone in the face that wants to kill you? makeup is a sign of you being a "girlygirl" and not having the ability to kill, in other words a sign of weakness sorry to burst your bubble.

  • NO female is allowed to wear make up at basic, and rarely at AIT. At least when I went, we had drill sergeants that said no.

You don't need to wear make up in basic, you barely have time to shower and piss as it is.

  • In the Army you can as long as they're not colored. In the Air Force, you can wear colored ones that don't distract from the uniform. So you can't wear like Zebra print contacts.

  • It's a distraction in uniform. You're there to be trained, not find a boyfriend.

  • i thought women are aloud to have there hair at shoulder length? Did they change it?

  • That makes no sense whatsoever. You can't shave any part of your head as stated in AR 670-1. I have no idea what you're talking about.

  • Sorry in the video it looks like you hair is cut as short as a guy in the military. My question was i thought women were aloud to have there hair at shoulder length. Im sorry its just hard for me to explain stuff in this kind of medium.

    I meant no disrespect. :(

  • 1. My hair is in a standard bun because I made this video after PT before workcall.

    2. Women can have their hair at any length, as long as it's not shaved and they can make it look neat.

  • Oh ok ,sorry the video kinda cut off some of your head at the top, didnt see the bun.

Sorry i know it was a dumb question its just in the past and was told about this kind of stuff.

  • Thanks! It's real stuff like this that makes us feel less nervous. Still nervous, just not crazy :)

  • i ship off in July 21st 2009 , like i go to the gym and do mostly running now than weight lifing, and i did some body building and when i enlisted last december i had to be taped and they told me my BMI was 32% and i use the same calc and i am now 25% and i am PFC before i ship because of JROTC.HOOAH , btw i also lost 76 pounds.

  • i would love to go to basic with her!

  • I went to basic like 5 years ago.

  • ah dang, thats too bad=]

  • Haha no im not, thanks for posting this vid. Its Hella Helpful.

  • Do the guys try to flirt with the girls at BCT, or are they not even worried about them because we have no makeup on! lol

  • There are people that have sex in the field after a 7 day FTX... if you're going to have sex with a girl that hasn't washed her junk in 7 days... more power to ya.

Yes, some do. Some just don't care.

  • the black girl comment is not true. it goes 4 anyone with dark hair. and u can have you hair cut short. a feminie look pertains to how you wear it. no you can't be bald as a female but you can have your hair cut

  • Your hair has to be a natural color. It's highly unlikely a black female is born with blonde hair, however it's always possible for a caucasian to be born with blonde hair. Even a person of Hispanic ethnicity (me). However, if your hair is extremely darker than that of the dyed color, it needs to be dyed back before shipping. Read AR 670-1, it defines it. It's only unauthorized for training. You can be black with blonde hair at your unit.

  • this was very helpful, but the black girl part is true to an extent. that goes for anyone with dark brown or black natural hair color. that has nothing to do with race

  • thanks for posting this video, it was really really helpfull

  • thank you for making this for new recruits!

  • No one knows what to do anymore, and I'm tired of the threads on AKO.

  • yeah i know, i try answering as many questions as i can for new recruits....im tempted to scan all my old letters from basic into photobucket for them
