  • fake backround and stuff

  • i think the background is fake.

  • Its bizarre how title states no spoilers and I approve all comments, yet people still write spoilers!! Duh!

Only me sees them, and I know how trick is done anyway!

  • Great magic illusion

  • hhi

  • Read Dr.Haha Lung And Christopher Prowant's Shadowhand it tells you all you need to know

  • He didn't go around the tent with a camera, he only said it

  • 3:01 recording stops and continue after the elephant is out...thank you :)

  • @magicmeadi Exactly thats what i thought

  • um if u wanna no how to do that he just went in and the elephant wuz lured into a crate with food. then he opens it a it gone!

  • wow ...... awesome

  • a good thing to consider is that the trainer/owner of elephant disappears too cause he is the one that has to lead the elephant out of the cameras view, great trick, would be better with a live audience, cause the other reactions seem fake lol, great trick

  • the ground does kind of stand out from the rest of the field, the rest of the field is green and the area the trick is performed is brown, but who knows. great trick

  • the elephant HAS to go underground somehow - it's the only way.

  • No matter how it's done, it's a bloody great trick.

My theory is that the elephant is raised on a false floor into the 'roof' of the tent. When they go into the tent, the elephant is taken away out of view of the cameras. Once it's out of the way, they switch back to the full view and lift the roof of the tent.

Still, I'm not sure if that would even be possible, but it's just such an amazing trick no matter what.

  • so there is obviously some sort of crane around, to have pulled the canopy up...

    maybe more machinery,

  • The backdrop is fake.

  • @LovelyYTRocks thats what I was thinking too

  • The Elephant is still there, only the grey animal disappeared.

  • elephant is behind the roof off in the distance and then they cut away to get it out of the camera shot before they take the roof off too.

  • Mavis, are you Martin Daniels?

  • @sonypc100 No.

  • @MavisRileyJunior My theory is that the elephant is simply standing behind the area of space directly behind the canopy as viewed from the camera. Johnny Morris' reaction is fake since he must be able to see it, and the elephant is moved out of view during the close up of Johnny when he's under the tent. But can you at least confirm that this is NOT how it's done?

  • @legogenius Yes thats not how its done. :)

Johnny Morris was certainly not in on it.

  • Comment removed

  • @legogenius 30 years of magic interest! But I dont know everything :)

  • @legogenius Johnny Morris is not that good an actor; His reaction is genuine...Just listen to that nervous giggle.

Still baffles me, and I don't really want to know how it was done. There is not enough magic & mystery to our lives anymore.

What's your fave Paul Daniels illusion?

    BEST.....John

  • @legogenius you have it, forget what people say, that is how it's done.

  • Why are none of the soldiers surprised. Because when I did national service and I saw that I would be like FFFFFUFUFUFUFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

  • its actually a fake background! saw it on criss angel

  • was this the same elephant that had its trunk stuck up its arse?

  • 2:36 goes at a angle, never goes in sorry guys

  • the most hard point for magician of that trick hapening 3:24

from that time diferent things have change....:)))

something go out ... we do not see right side ...

    no camera trick right...

    but magic of view...

the elaphant moved to spcae wchich is covered by the top of that tent

camra changes the viec they goes to see what hapened and elephant go away .. a nd then there is the time to remove the top:)

  • when he said prettier than johnny morris, i thought he meant the elephan lol.

  • Everyone focuses on the elephant, but what about the guy holding the elephant? He disapperad as well, but no one is missing him?

  • 2:45 the elephant is raised. You can start to see it right in the middle of the roof so it's probably been turned round facing away. Perhaps even circus trained to lie down. I think it's no accident that the now raised camera angle is now EXACTLY in line with the trees making it a good marker for the cameraman. 3:04 all helpers are back in place. 3:13 an edit. ALL the smoke surrounding Mr Morris is now instantly gone. The elephant too.

  • When the back screen goes up @ 2:23 you can see there is a gap in the middle. I believe that this is so that wires can be attached to the animal. When the front screen is raised, a helper reached the front @ 2:30 (makes dents). @ 2:34 only 5 soldiers are now seen until the very end. 3 'helpers' are missing setting up whatever raises the elephant using the crane.

  • Cool trick. Here's my theory. We know there is a crane, cos the roof is removed in the end. @ 0:12 he states that it's " your soldiers", making us think that there are no 'helpers'. They walk over the back screen which has something under it. You see something 'like bars' on the left.

1:29 you can see the harness already attached to the other side of the elephant. The seat is just disguising it. We never ever see the elephant from another angle.

  • of course it is. the elephant hides behind the tent in the "shadow" of the roof. then camera switches when they are in the tent, during that time the elephant goes out of sight. then the roof of the tent gets lifted. everybody in this trick was instructed

  • @ollipodillo Yes this is exactly how they do it which is why it's 'trick photogrpahy'. Smarty pants Mavis didn't know that though.

  • The elephant was CGI (along with Paul's hair). When he fired the canon, the cannonball shot out and landed on a big button that switched off the CGI computer (probably a C64 or Atari ST) and that made the animal vanish.

Also, the tent was the size of a tennis court and plenty big enough to hide an elephant in, but due to the camera angle it looked normal. Also, Paul Daniels was enlarged to normal size with a special magnifying camera lens.

    Do I win a prize?

  • Hey MavisRileyJunior: how do you know how the trick was done? Did Paul Daniels tell you?

  • however he did do it, he's a bloody genius.

  • I can only repeat this so many times but it isnt a camera trick.

  • @MavisRileyJunior

How do YOU know how it was done?

  • @MavisRileyJunior Oh don't be so stupid. If it isn't a camera trick, then you tell us how he did it? You think he used real black magic and actually made the elephant vanish into a parallel dimension? And since this is so amazing and out of this world, where is the huge gathering of people witnessing this phenomenal event? Get a grip.

  • @straightshots Is it a camera trick when David Copperfield flies?

Just beacuse you don't know the secret do not assume camera tricks. No I wont tell you how its done.

  • @MavisRileyJunior

It's a mirror combination on the back of the tent. The elephant goes behind the tent.

  • @straightshots mirrors

  • It's the basic trick, as Paracetamoljunkie said. There's no actual evidence of it being done without filmography. The great tricks of misdirection are easier, but unfortunately the background image of the green field doesn't excactly match the background. I liked Copperfield's grand misdirection though. I got me puzzled as to how they misdirected so many people along with the cameras. You can misdirect only so much...

  • If you watch carefully at 3:08, at the left side of the tent's roof, the elephant moves A LITTLE BIT and can be seen, but the camera cuts right then.

This old man is just the predecessor of Mindfake chris angel lol

  • You have good eyes, sir :)

  • Nice spot nixon. Well thats pretty conclusive then.

  • This was broadcast live,no edits,no camera tricks.

  • The live broadcast is just a lie, it was delayed. Magicians are also professional liars.

  • He might use camera tricks but comparing him to Chris Angel is insulting. I mean look at Paul's other tricks like the Chop Cup. I mean, Chris don't even know what a double lift is

  • @lIlLLinIlI - Everyone hating on Chris is just jelous, or at some point feels they can do better, but theyre not bothered putting in the effort to become a great entertainer. Instead they post hatefull comments on youtube about him. trying to feel better.

I hope Criss steals your watch and doesnt give it back!

  • you`re right , well spotted !

  • @nixxxon18 I totally agree

  • The trick is not making the elephant disappear but making Johnny Morris appear because he disappeared from TV about thirty years ago - well done you...

  • first two minutes were bullshit. just show the trick and get on with it.

  • Thus speaks the youtube generation. When this was broadcast, it was a big telly event, and the uploader has put it all up for context. Well done him/her, I say, I hate finding shit on youtube with no info or surrounding footage to put it in context.

  • 2:06

  • At 2:44 you can see the flap at the front of the tent, on the bottom of the roof part, is blown up by the wind, showing us a nice patch of green behind, meaning that the back has already been put down and the elephant being walked out. As much as Mavis likes to deny it, the trick is done how everyone has been mentioning, that the high camera angle and roof block the elephant form our view, and when the camera cuts the elephant is walked away.

  • nothing new here, most elephants have the power of invisibility.

  • lol xD

  • hahaha

  • @rhykko77 Except my ex.

  • Why dont get off the roof before? Obvious, the elephant was behind it. Camera cut, and then, roof out. This sucks man, this sucks.

  • Its so obvious..The girl swallowed the elephant!

  • Trickbusters!

  • lol

  • Owner of video

    or "borrower"

    its just an illusion

just because you like his tricks

doesn't mean you have to dfend him

    its a trick

no such thing as a disappearing elephant

  • @Amouse100 Precisely. Why is MRJr. so intent on guarding a magic secret? This I don't understand. Aside from the fact that most magicians make their living by asking the very question which is posted in the description, "Where'd it go?" which is not actually a question but is actually an assertion of the magician's superiority. "I fooled you." The secret to a trick is not important. No one believes that these things are actually magic. A good magician does not make an audience wonder how.

  • @Amouse100 If a magician is convincing, the audience knows how: Magic!

That being said, MavisJr., what prize do I win if I guess? You act like a kid who hid an easter egg. "Nope, not there, tee hee!" I don't get a feeling of superiority from figuring this out, why do you so viciously guard the secret? If Daniels was an effective magician, the secret wouldn't matter.

That being said, you stated that spoilers will be removed, so I'll only say, my best guess has to do with the smell.

  • paul says it`s important that he wants us to see all around the tent , so why does`nt he show us around the back , if he did tho we would see the elephant being led away thru the back panel , when the sides are dropped why leave the roof on ? , simple , from that camera angle the elephant is then hidden from our view , then when they enter the tent the camera is angled so we don`t see the elephant being led away .

  • There are 2 tricks here. The first is a perspective one. The elephant does not enter the tent, it goes out from the backside and goes in the distance. It is hidden then, by perspective by the roof of the tent. Then, there is a camera cut at 3:09. They remove the elephant between the 2 scenes.

    Trickbusters.

  • Trickbusters? not on my video you dont! And you are wrong.

  • yes they are!

  • @mavisrileyjunior

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

    magic doesn't exist

  • lololol, pwned:)

  • They walk out the elephant in the back of the tent. The background is fake. If one look carefully one can see a line between the smooth green and the brownish-green gras.

Or else the elephant was a ballon and the canon covered the bang from it.

  • One of Paul's best Illusions ever and Johhny Morris's Reaction is superb! Well done for posting. Excellent

  • I dont speak english...Im from colombian...so....Mirror, green part..

  • I do speak English, so..no mirrors..green part or any other.

  • Mirror? Yeeeesssss!

  • WOuld you like to bet money?

  • BAD TRICK! Watch the edit between 2:39 - 2:40.

  • BAD EYESIGHT! No camera edits.

  • nope i was ther no camera edits

  • You're an idiot. The elephant is still in view from 2:39-2:40.

  • elephant enters tent , they drop the back panel , elephant is walked away , all sides are dropped , the elephant is hidden from view by the top of the tent , cut to johnny morris , then the elephant is simply walked away out of shot , good trick !

  • Good trick... wrong answer.

  • yes,the elephant is in the background hidden by top of the tent

  • I remember looking at this when I was a kid being mesmerized all those years ago. The huge gap in the apex of the tent frame at 3:36 gives away the secret but in its day it was a great illusion. Great memories. Thanks to the poster for this!

  • Does it give it away? Knowing the secret I don't see how.

  • were did bobby go?

  • so where did the elephant go?

  • i like vanishing trick all about covering up objects with the objects that are visible by the audience(here the cover up is the tent roof =]

  • the elephant is obviousley in the background covered by roof of tent, then editing is involved when roof is raised and clear space is seen.easy

  • winner!! haha =]

  • Mmmmm, who's been watching too much 'Magic's Greatest Secrets Finally Revealed? This illusion was created pre-television, in the days when magicians and trick designers could come up with an illusion where the the people in the live audience didn't actually have to be in on it and magicians had reputations that didn't have to be bought.

  • Comment removed

  • I liked this.But not a lot.

  • ...but i liked it

  • There are a ton of different ways this could be done. The inside of the tent could have been basically an elevator - when the elephant went in, it went down into the ground, and the "ceiling" of the tent now became the "floor." Or, it's completely fake and everyone was in on it.

Make something disappear WITHOUT obstructing my view of it, and then I'll be impressed.

  • the elephant is hiding in the canopy above

  • Yes I agree, then when the canopy was whisked up in the air by the crane to reveal nothing there Paul Daniels had already put the elephant in his pocket.

  • There are clearly mirrors, it's obvious, and everyone knows how it's done.Someone on here has said it before, it's a point of view trick, made wholly possible by the fact it is broadcast from that angle.

  • And where exactly are the mirrors? Hmm?

  • where they are in place ;)

  • 45 degree from the corner of the tent. The animal doesn't move (apart from shit itself from the cannon's noise). Old school.

  • I'm afraid it's even older school than that dear boy.

  • well idont really know mavis, are they in the elephants trunk?

  • Brilliant.

  • Correct. This trick is only for tv viewers only, watching from that high camera angle. Its a Point of view trick. If they had nothing to hide then why cut to a close up then back to the high angle again?

Thanx for your explaination. Makes sense.

  • The top frame could also easily have mirrored panels, that way they wouldn't have to save the roof until last.

I'm glad there are circuses out there to heroically step in rescue our wayward elephants from life in the zoo.

  • Simple. There's no mirror...when the lateral panels fall down, the roof of the tent is blocking a large area of the field.....where the elephant and bobby wait. Before taking the roof up (while the close up), bobby guides the elephant out of the shot.

That's why they take the roof up after the close up.

Please notice that everybody is laughing....cos they can see the elephant back in the field.

  • Correct

  • Incorrect.

  • Well how then smartass

  • Why don't you explain it yourself ? Or do you think that animals can dissapear like that?

  • It's a magic illusion,it's not mirrors or camera tricks, that's as far as explanations go.

  • Heck of a trick! :-D Just curious, though. Who is Mr. Morris? A veteran singer? Actor? Stand-up comedian?

  • Never mind the above question. I "googled" his name, and I found about his old zoology program for the BBC. I was sorry to read he had passed on. Sounds like this gentleman was the Marlon Perkins of the UK.

  • Johnny Morris was a legend of KId's TV.

Oh and everyone...there is no mirrors,I guarantee.

  • Thank you for the prompt reply. :-)

  • common sense tells you it didnt go anywhere so it has to still be there !! it is behind a large mirror at the back of the tent!

  • awesome!

  • qwimreaper no-on sees your comment.Nic etry though.

  • did they get there elephant back?

  • This means that there is an angled mirror reflecting another patch of field towards the camera. So all the elephant has to do is be led to the patch of feild which the mirror blocks out.(it does this by walking out of a flap out the back). This makess it look like the elephant has gone to the cameras but everyone on the ground will be able to clearly see the elephant right behind them!

  • It states in video description no mirrors or camera tricks.Thats what it means.

  • Just because it says "no mirrors" does not mean there are none.

  • have you seen the matix? No special effects were used in that. Keanu reeves can dodge bullets..... Unless you were there when the video was shot you cannot assume anything.....for someone so interested in these types of tricks im wondering why you have made the fundamental mistake of aussumtion itself.....

  • where did the elephant go

  • As soon as the elephant walks into the tent, it then walks out the side, away from the camera. When the walls of the tent are removed, the elephant is blocked from our view by the top of the tent, which is closer to the camera and so easily conceals the elephant. The onlookers pretend to be amazed (though they can see it fine). Then the camera cuts to another shot, providing a chance for the elephant to be moved completely out of the way, so then the roof of the tent can be removed.

  • Exactly how fast do you think an elephant can walk as to be far enough away to be hidden by perception of vision effect? And who assisted it? Did it just wander off and stop at the correct spot and stay still?

  • Poor Bobby, no one notices that he disappears as well. While he leads the elephant about 20ft away, Paul stalls for plenty of time, re-stating the scene and introducing the cannon. It could walk slower than we see it doing in the clip. It's a very nice illusion, using the power of television without being simply a "camera trick".

  • Well, the trainer goes into the tent with the elephant so it would be sensibly to assume (considering he does not reappear) that he was the one who assisted it.

  • if it was a CGI elephant then debbie is an even better illusionist then paul as she is sat ontop of it

  • Excelent ! Thank you Mr. Paul Daniels

    Marlon - Brasilian magician

  • Of course its fake you muppet. People dont really have magical skills

  • its FAKE

  • At 2 mins 51/52 the clp is changed! it is a fake! once the elephant is in it pokes its trunk on the top of the tent but if you look carefully the colour of the scene changes. i bet you will see it too

  • agreed

  • There is no camera cut in this clip,or edit.I 100% guarantee.

  • Doesn't have a patch on Wizbit though.

  • great

  • i think i got it, cause they never show 360 degress around the tent , hint that means something

  • nice method

  • that was cgi elephant

  • i love his chop cup

  • when the top of the tent was picked up it picked up the elephant too

  • hahaha

  • the elpehant ways 3 tons idiot

  • are u a fucking idiot?

  • I saw Paul Daniels at the civic in Doncaster, and have been a fan for years. He really was the best! In fact, I probably wouldn't be a magician now, if not for watching his show!!! I also loved the 'Under Laboratory conditions' bit...Do you have any vid's of some of this?

    Thanks again...

    John

  • Hi MRJ,

Quick question; Do you really know where the elephant went? (I honestly don't want to know)

But BIG thanks for posting all the Paul Daniels stuff!

  • jmmartin yes I do know where the elephant went :)

  • Please don't tell!!!!!;-)

  • Debbie ate it!!! ;)

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha........

    Brilliant

    Debbie ate it hahahohohohhahahaha

    (All above outloud!!)

  • That was Paul's "joke" response when asked later about whee the elephant went.

  • Hi MRJ,

Just watched the Criss Angel version.

Crap camera work, very fussy work with the screens, lots of people around, distracting and detracting from the illusion.

You'd think after all these years they could top what our very own PD did...But no!!!Not eeeeven close.

  • Yep isnt that just true! PauL daniels set the lead for otehrs to follow.

  • Whats your fave' PD moment?

  • um, the top of the tent, went stright up........

  • Actually they used an animatronic inflatable elephant, and Debbie just burst it with a pin! He used the cannon to hide the bang!!!

Sorry MRJ for revealing this! But all the other people guessing wrong was just bugging me

  • Lol, Chriss Angel do this too :s He takes his tricks from everyone else.

  • its all a load of ballackss!!

  • Notice how after the elephant vanishes the tent cover stays on while we look from the same camera angle. The elephant is just standing behind that obscured area - it walked out the back & we have a forced perspective. The camera then CUTS to a different angle and THEN the roof is removed but by then the elephant has been taken away. It's not really camera trickery but it is misleading. The roof is the answer - if a magician has an unnecessary prop it means that they need it to perform the trick.

  • Thats what i thought too but mavis says thats not how its done. Then again, he does seem very strict on people trying to guess what it is and doesnt seem to like the fact that we do, so whos to say we are being told the truth? ;)

  • Sure that's it.. the massive harness obscured by the howdah.. A circus elephant.. "Don't look up"..

Brilliant illusion. THANKS for posting it.

  • Okay here's what I reckon... sorry Mavis for taking a guess. The elephant is in the roof attched to a crane and as it's pulled up the roof itself covers it from view.

  • strange my commment didn't appear?

  • Give me a chance SrWilson I get there eventually.

  • I know how this (along with alot of other illusions) is done too and people are not even close with their guessing.

Its a great illusion just appreiciate the art of it as Mavis says.

I enjoy watching them for the performance because the real magic in all tricks is not the secret itself but the performance. :)

  • "I know how this (along with alot of other illusions)". Ohh, thank you for telling us about your igenious greatness.

  • I also don't like the fact that it's not one continueous shot. There's about 10 camera cuts. Throughout the video. The back piece of tent could be also covering a trap door. Yes I know the trhee walk over it, but the tra doord could easilt be cut down the center, , unlatch, both doors
