Canada is like Sweden on steroids...that is really the first thing that coems to mind for me as a swede...our bears, trees, lakes, mountains, waterfalls are the same but much smaller here
Wow I'm glad I don't live there, not very good at reading bears. So I would be packing a 12 gauge with 3 in. magnum slugs & a .44 magnum. That'll be enough I think.
i live in BC and spend a lot of time in the back-counrty, either hunting or recreational hiking and practicing survival skills.
i have had many bear encounters all have been non-life threatening. one peace of survival equipment that you need to carry if you are to spend any "serious" time in the backwoods of BC is BIG gun, such as a 30-06 rifle. people who get close to bears with out firearm protection are foolish and selfish and have failed to understand the bear's nature.
@SimilkameenSlayer1 well you right probably a gun, but bear spray is also good. you dont kill the bear at the same time even a gun may not put a enraged bear down with one shot. bear spray temporarly blinds the bear, just like pepper spray, except for bears! but you stand correct, i would say have both! lol
@chrisdeli7158 true - fyi, it's hard to carry a rifle when you are fishing the kispiox river for trophy stealhead trout in grizz country, so best to have pepper spray, might give you an edge before you jump in the river. ;)
This episode right here, not only proves Mears is Superior to Grylls, but at the same time it shows the shear beauty of the landscape and it's wild life. Spectacular!
How good would it be if someone made a piss-take of this video and edited it in a way that he was tracking/hunting bear grylls? Wish i had the skills... would be toooo funny, some classic lines 'i smell bear'.

@chrisdeli7158 wrong!
high powered rifle slung over your shoulder, pepper spray on your waist belt, which one would you grab for a bear attack?

Not the best Mears, but I guess that's the difference between the Beeb and ITV. Hopefully he gets back to the BBC soon.
Thanks for the upload nonetheless.

OK, I've seen better stuff by Ray, but fine anyway. Thanks for the information.
