Animal collective is so unrefined live, as opposed to their incredible complex studio versions. This is admittedly by far the best live video of this song I've seen, but they just like stomp around and shriek weirdly. It's still somehow good though

but they do make psychedelic music, with often CLEAR references to psychedelic drugs, so you be the judge.

I think it's open for interpretation really- that's part of what makes it so great. If you smoke weed and you believe they do too (sidenote: How the fuck could these gentlemen NOT ever smoke weed?) then great.

If you think its like a beautiful childhood innocence more power to you.

There is no subtle metaphor, nothing, He is CLEARLY stating he wants to get stoned. Instead of thinking that's such a bad thing, maybe re-evaluate your thoughts on the matter. "Drugs" are not the same as "Psychedelics", the latter being a form of experimentation, inspiration, and enlightenment, the former being harmful, addictive, and destructive.
