He's at the Nurbugring Nordscheife in a racing-prepared Porsche Turbo. They're in BMW 1-series, Fiat 500's, Toyota Yarises. He could have passed them all on the back straight. The hardest part for him was not smashing into the back of anyone. I'm not exactly amazed.

OK, first of all you should have said that it's going round the Northschleife.It's a 20 km lap so it's not that amazing.

Second the driver looks like the Stig.

And third are you sure it's a Cup car?I think it's an RSR.It overtook a 997 Cup car in the beginning of the video and with ease that's why I think it might be an RSR

RSR has sequenziall gearbox (or whatever its called in english) so the Porsche cup has... i think its a porsche SportsCup version because the got normal gearboxes

bit deceiving this as thats a porsche in the VLN race, so the cars he's going past most are in the lower classes, they go as low as 1.4 litre classes so he's not racing them as not in his class

I counted 28+the stopped bimmer on the side of the road. where are the rest 3? coz, u can't actually count passing standing cars, now can ya? coz if they count, I could just get both sides of the track filled with cars and then start driving a truck down the track, and say, hey, I passed that much cars on the nordschleife in a truck.

It's a great video, but hold off on calling the driver of the Porsche 996 the next Ayrtyon Senna. He may have passed 31 cars, but he missed as many apex's. Not to mention that every single car he passed was in a different - inferior - class of race car. That and he had the longest road course in Europe to do it in.

Summary: Great Video, adequate driver in a superior car.

That car is set up so nicely for the 'Ring; the suspension has enough compliance to cope with the bumps, and the ratios sound perfect for the track. Great stuff

There is nothing good about this driver at all.... it's the nurburg ring which means each lap is like 400 miles long and clearly his Porsche is going to be superior to the crappy renaults that we see driving around.....

That is a good point, but during these circuit races they have a few car classes on the same track at the same time, so the cars he's passing don't effect his race, they are just expensive cones he has to navigate :)

He also didn't look to be reaching qualifying speed (especially not with the slower class cars getting in his way.)

This isnt really that amazing- in these races there are several categories of different types of cars- slower cars from another class must move over for the faster class cars. that is why he passed so many cars- not because this guy is an "amazing fast driver"

I guess it's a VLN Race on the Northloop of the Nurburgring.

It is normal that the grid is split up (about 200-220 cars!) in 2 or 3 groups, to stretch the grid and decrease the danger of crashes within the first lap, especially of the modern part of the track (quite tight and twisty).

Seems like the onboardcar is a faster Porsche from the first group, being stuck within the second, which is also the reason for him to overtake that much cars, he simply has a much faster car

used the braking of the lower gear, and use the lower gear to raise rpms, but then shifted back to the higher gear...

i've never seen that.. usually they'd just stick in the lower gear until the end of the corner..
