Playing this game now. I'm in the Lost Forest now. I'm not quite as attached to the game as I was with Persona 3 and 4 but it's still a good game. Everything just seems to happen really fast.
@sumire901 The UMD version is perfectly playable without PSN, but buying the digital version will only be possible once Playstation Store gets online again (which is supposed to happen later this week).
Actually, they didn't "change" Mark; he was never a black guy in the original Japanese version of the game. The blackness was something the American publishers/translators added when they released the game in the US for the first time (they changed a lot to make the game world seem more Westernized). So in the new PSP port Mark is back to his original Japanese self again...
The Atlus released the P3P, this game really is very promissory after he took everything that made the Persona 3, Persona 4 and Persona 3 FES good and put it all together in one game. But this Persona... I dont know...

i don't know how you guys like such a stupid game , this is the worst RPG in my entire life , the music sucks , fighting sucks ...omg it's shit trust me
this game is actually addicting, well for me =). once you get around the way you travel, the game is really good and as said below the storyline is really good.
the battles seem a bit too slow for me D: I really like the art though. I also heard the storyline is pretty awesome but...eh this looks like I'd be bored just playing five seconds of the game :/
@Demiath it does not salute persona 3 and 4 they should have done the remake really like....a GODDAMMN REMAKE! the problems are still there too.....and it is just downrigth ugly to look at......now persona 2 for psp wich i hear is a lot fucking better......never came out of japan now that.....is holyfuckingannoyingiwillkillallhumansnowROAAAR!!!!!!!
oh yeah and there is shin megami tensei : devil summoner wich i also hear is pretty good and guess what. only in fucking japan.....fuckload'o'shit
yeah this IS the remake of the game new music and stuff its actually really cool because therre trying to keep it like the old one since if you want it for the playstation then its like 90 bucks its ridiculous
i might consider getting htis game for psp, but is it like the first one ever? cause i don't want to get thrown into a storyline without understanding any of it.
Yes, this is the first Persona game and the story continues (sort of) in Persona 2 but not in Persona 3 and 4, which have entirely different storylines.
people this game is just a referbushi from the original i think... no big changes.. just a few added stuff, just like any other PS1 they remake or whatever.. its a good game, the story is fun, the fighting is fun for old school, an many ways to fight.. from direct hit.. to just magic to even bribe the enemy away
The completely new localization, rebalanced difficulty/checkpoint structure, expanded soundtrack, improved interface and new cutscenes make this more than just a refurbishing in my opinion. The two big things they didn't change much were the character sprites and animations, which is a bit disappointing but perhaps understandable since they wanted to preserve that authentic Persona 1 look...
Correction my friend. The North-American version will be getting VA's. But from what I've heard, if it ever gets released in Europe, it probably won't have VA either. I hope I'm wrong though. Personally mine is already pre-ordered so I'm fine with it, since the American version gets VAs, but... some people can't afford to import or have no means to and it'd be unfair if they get a half-arsed version of this.
It's funny; many longtime Persona fans would say exactly the opposite (i.e. the music is dreadful and the gameplay is the only thing it has going for it). Guess Atlus has made sure that everyone has something to complain about... ;)
Indeed. Don't let it get to you, buddy. Unfortunately, the SMT series started out to be a very obscure series of games, as I'm sure you know, and as time passes, the possibility to import games, or modded software, chips, boot disks, ISO downloading, most kids nowadays knew the SMT saga through Persona3, and, even though I 100% it and P4, I much preffer the older games. Even Lucifer's Call had a more serious tone. All kids these days care about are next-gen graphics and easy gaming/no brainers.
Actually, although I hardly qualify as a "kid" I'm one of those who got into SMT through Persona 3 and 4. To appreciate the older Persona games I think you either have to be a longtime fan of classic JRPG series or (as in my case) be somewhat familiar with the old school PC dungeon crawlers (Wizardry etc.) which most older JRPGs draw inspiration from.
I'm sure some of the Japanese remakes and spin-offs were released by Atlus, but all the "real" Wizardry games were developed by American developer Sir-Tech.
Why thank you, my friend. I'm happy at least someone thinks like me, haha.
It's so sad when people don't agree with us and just start calling us names. Just shows how stupidly limited some people's intellect and vocabulary is. Right?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well I'm not a long term persona fan... I'm not really a big gamer either. I've only played persona 3 and I'm thinking about playing 4. I mean if they're going to remake a game can they actually remake it instead of just porting it? I can just put the ps1 iso for this game on my psp and pretty much has the same pile of shit.
The PSP remake has a redesigned interface, options for greatly speeding up the battles and many more savepoints. This is meant to make the game more fast-paced and easier to pick up and play for shorter periods of time (which makes sense given that it's on a handheld now). And then there's of course the translation, which is completely new and much better than the old one.
So there are in fact important differences between the versions; just not so much in graphics and overall presentation...
Don't be an ignorant fool. If a game is good for it's time, people will want to play it again for old time's sake. If brats these days can look at nothing else then Next-Gen graphics and their own penis, then they should stick to PS3 and play games like Devil May Cry instead of playing games that their brain hasn't got the capability to comprehend. Why remake this wonderful game? They revamped some graphics, but y'know, "Don't try to fix it if it ain't broken".
Pretty sure that I don't have a PS3 and I love classic games. But I do have standards, and this game looks messy. But that's just my opinion, if you like this game good for you. If a game is going to be 'remade' I will judge it with today's standards. The graphics for this game aren't even decent, the sims 1 looked better for fuck sakes. I admit I'm being slightly ignorant but I'm in a bad mood.
Why am I even arguing with you? Your 'about me' section on your profile talks about labels... lmfao
The game was made by an under budgeted company. When this game was actually made, the games they released were so obscure that most of them were never even released outside Japan. This particular game was so badly translated and censured, you'd laugh at the changes from the original US version till this one.
You don't need to argue with me, dude. I'm not trying to fight you, man. We've never met.
And about my "label" (as you call them) description, did you find anything wrong? Do tell if you can
PS: I'm sure you're not THAT stupid to realise that those explanations are nothing but a Rant of mine, because it is really something that irritates me on YouTube, and since I CAN edit and write those things, I did. If it makes SOMEONE in the entire world realise how ignorant they are about styles, then I'm fine with that, and I have, so...
I guess so :P I know what you mean, it's just that's what 90% of the 13 year olds on here do and they're annoying as shit, however you seem polite so I guess it's okay. Most people on the internet don't like to listen to another person's opinion and think they're always right, so they never learn. I just learned to accept the fact that half the world is stupid, so I stopped trying to make an effort to help that half.
people like you expects graphics first and foremost when it comes to games,
im not a big persona fan (only played persona 2) but i loved every bit what the game had to offer,it may not have uber cool graphics that we see in todays gaming market but that has nothing to do with the game anyway, the graphics of the 1st and 2nd game fits quite well with the game itself, remake or not you should not base a game by BS-ing how it resembles the games you've played on the earlier age of consoles.
Exactly. It makes me sad how many people actually decide to judge remakes and games by today's technological standards. I mean, the graphics were good for it's time and it fits it's feel. Trying to remake a game to "fit it's time" is most always a fail when the game is THIS good in terms of depth, because graphics they have become very much part of what the game is. Games nowadays are so much based on how "pretty" they look that in the end, when it comes to entertainment value, they suck.
And let's face it. Most people nowadays that play new-gen games do so only for graphics. If you get a choice to pick between a PS2 version and a PS3 version, everybody picks a PS3 version. Why? Cuz of the graphics. That's all. Most people play new-gen games not for their value but because it feels awesome to look at new-gen graphics on the TV while playing. If games nowadays had the graphics of Persona here, they suck ass. And Persona can still rock having these graphics.
Oh, he's right there (the guy in the yellow tuque) but has been restored to his real Japanese self. He never was black in the original version of the game, you know, and he most certainly didn't wear a baseball cap...

if this doesent get voic acting in the english version like the past persona games for ps2 then this shit is not worth it at all besides me and alot of people whould have to fuck up their custom firmware for hombrews and shit
thank you, atlus! i didnt grow up with the original psx version, and therefore, i never played it, and im a huge persoa fan, so you can only imagine how exited i am for this game! people, stop complaining, its gonna be amazing. id like to see how this amazing series came to be.
I really dont understand the complains. This is like a dream come true for atlus/persona fans that could not get a hold on the first one for the psx. The changes:
1) NO damn LOCALIZATION
2) Graphical touch-ups
3) Shoji Meguero (Music)
4) Better Map Navigation
5) Battle System - AOE spells do not need to be Que'ed up when inflicting damage.
6) Cut-scenes
7) Extra content that was cut out from the ENGLISH to Japanese transition
Although, technically speaking, it's still just as much a LOCALIZATION as it was the first time around (just a better, more faithful and less intrusive one).
Yeah thats a fair point but it certainly could have be spruced up. After all if you want the original get that(though its hard to get). Star Ocean was done very nicely on the PSP.
Perhaps, but I don't think "lazy" is quite the right word here. Seeing as the old fans (=the ones most likely to actually buy the game) seem to get absolutely furious over even the slightest alteration to the original, I'm not sure Atlus felt they could get away with changing much more than they already did (new music & cutscenes, new interface, faster combat/movement etc.)...
they mighta changed the music a bit but i still lolzd at the scream at about 1:30 and the foot steps of the guy with the beanie running i liked the original Star ocean and i loved the remake of it on the PSP tho ill admit, i miss coule (lolz cool town)
Yes it's kinda funny...but not as funny as the infamous fact that the publishers changed that hat into a baseball cap and painted the guy black in the English version of the original Playstation 1 game in order to make him look like an Afro-American kid. Why? No one really knows...
should I get this?

Seeing as the old fans (=the ones most likely to actually buy the game) seem to get absolutely furious over even the slightest alteration to the original, I'm not sure Atlus felt they could get away with changing much more than they already did (new music & cutscenes, new interface, faster combat/movement etc.)...

PC i guess.

Perhaps, but that particular guy is actually just annoying and says stupid things all the time. Weird kind of PC to make him black...

why does the japanese people have to have funny hats and makeup in public like that kid with the yellow thing on his head?
Borin81 2 years ago
Yes it's kinda funny...but not as funny as the infamous fact that the publishers changed that hat into a baseball cap and painted the guy black in the English version of the original Playstation 1 game in order to make him look like an Afro-American kid. Why? No one really knows...

it was obviously to make the games more american so people would buy it
alot people afraid of letting kids see japanese culture or something like that so they censor it
e.g 4kids(it on top of my head) they freakin censor a rice ball in a sandwich
