Well, facts on Major Count v. Gneisenau at Kolberg: He Held the Stronghold! Then he was Reformer of the Prussian army. In 1813 he was 2nd-in-Command of Marshal Bluecher's Army, and his 'Brain'. His operations made Napoleon flee(Leipzig) and surrender (Paris). When Napoleon came back 1815, FM Bluecher trapped him at Ligny-Belgium, but was severely beaten and transiently lost. Gneisenau, against all Pruss. commanders, ordered the battered army direction Wellington.

Im very much surpirsed at the amount of resources put into this movie, the horses which could be used to move supplies around, or more realistically eaten, also the houses use, that large amount of people would attract alot of attention.

Really? The French would never have held the Western front alone. Look at all the countries fighting against the Germans, in both world wars. The French barely survived WWI, thanks to allies and was utterly crushed in WWII.

In 1944 french fighting for the allies were always in the frontline until Paris, and in 1945 french 1st army, conquered the center of the siegfried line, part of center Germany,and all south western Germany.

As for French Cowardice well the Charlemagne Division fough valiantly that would make their ancestors proud they fough against all odds against a superior forces and they never give up. French had it pretty easy......far more difficult than the germans had in 1940,with weaponry years ahead anyone else, bigger industrial output than everyone in non soviet Europe put together,as they all were in crisis,the second military power in Europe was Italy,a non country...... pathetic.....

I first heard of "Kolberg" in a documentary on Dr Goebells, I think. Three(?) men were literally killed in one of the battle scenes but the cameras were kept running because they couldn't afford to lose the footage. All very unpleasant.

@InTheRainstorm No. It was two extras that were killed I think was because of bombing they were filming close to Berlin and Berlin was constantinely bombed by Allies during a footage they were bombed and two extras were killed is ironical that the sound of "battle" of this movie was actualy real! Morale increase was crucial obviously, but money was severely lacking during this point. As per whether the return of those soldiers could have spared Germany the Russian conquest, that is debatable. It doesn't seem so, but it is quite odd that during such an important war, any troops would be moved from the front for any reason.
