A new cover of this by Bluebird Parade (bluebirdparade.co.uk) is just about to be released onto the new charity album full of Specials covers. Check it out at the specializedcharityalbum.co.uk
@JohnnyLovely2 i know thats not the UK version, it had the same songs as our US version. its some sort of compilation i bet. in the back of Willo's book he has all of the records ever released on 2 Tone. i bet thats listed there, unless Chrysalis released it
i thought the lyrics to this song was "this is a drawing of a new area" to my surprise..it wasnt..and i have never lived it down..31 years later!!! :o
Um, actually, it is a well known fact that The Specials mixed punk with ska. Watch or read anything on the history of 2Tone. It's mentioned repeatedly. They dug Terry Hall out of a punk band called Squad, for crying out loud. It was never "just ska" with The Specials. It was punk, ska, reggae, Jamaican blues, muzak, African drumming, etc. And this song is definitely a fusion of punk and ska.
I am from Hamburg and have been in Brixton, great concert. Could you help me to find a song, it goes one (clap) two (two claps) three (3 claüs) four (4 claps) Can't find it anywhere.
Saw them supporting Generation X at Derby Kings hall in Feb 78 (as the Coventry Specials). This was the only song I remembered afterwards. They were more punky then and the ska/2 tone thing hadn't started.
To all Ska fans, make a note of the new film out soon "Clubbed" starring Colin Salmon. They shot some scenes in my area (Cotteridge, Birmingham)!! Mighty proud..
Mucho thanks for posting this, surprisingly this track isn't on any of the Specials CD compilations. This has to be one of their best songs and kudos to you for putting on youtube!

May I recommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this track.

Of course it's a cocktail of punk and ska. They are after all musical cousins. Rebel music, folks.

@moonshiny74 totally. also, Terry and Roddy were both in punk bands before the specials. Terry's band was called the Squad. not sure about Roddy's
dkgdbr 8 months ago
@dkgdbr I'm not too sure about Roddy's either. The first thing that springs to mind when it comes to him is the rockabilly group he's had for years.
moonshiny74 8 months ago
@moonshiny74 even more are "Do The Dog" and "Raquel"
