this album cover scared the shit out of me when i bought it .then that same night a film came on called /THE DEVIL RIDES OUT . i went to bed with a turtles head coming out of my arse still i remember those days with fondness .
You know I enjoyed this music back in the day and still do. Know what else? I could pass a urine test the entire time, I didn't provide money to underground criminal enterprises that ruin countries, ours and many others, and I didn't contribute to the homicide rate either. The drug crowd can't admit to any of that because they are so self centered, and willfully ignorant.
music evolved to the worst at least the mainstream right now is fckd up, i know that one of these days a huge band will pop out and push back into normal ..... i hope
ok I know I'm not the frst or the last one to say this but where THE HELL has all the good music gone?! This is good as hell and we do not have such songs these days :(
Godspeed to Tony Iommi as he prepares for treatment for lymphoma cancer; he's got a long and painful road ahead of him. We all wish you a speedy recovery, you've got millions of metalheads pulling for ya, Tony! IOMMI AND BLACK SABBATH FOREVER!!!!!!!!
Not only paranoid got over played, but iron man was. I pesonally think that the black sabbath - black sabbath alblum was the best and set the standard and was a hard act to follow, but there are a lot of good songs that followed on later LP'S.
Sabbath, the founding fathers of metal. Great thing about them was that they didn't have to worry about being cliche. They were the first. So many metal bands after them you can heap into one pile. Not Sabbath, they stand alone. Ozzie!
I once saw a young woman who looked just like the person on the cover of the first Black Sabbath album. Although it was nearly 30 years ago, the memory of seeing her still gives me the creeps now. I can still remember the inverted cross ear-ring she had in her left ear and her black dress. Fucking weird...
@Donkeyn00b I picture hell like a casino or 5 stars hotel with lots of rock n roll, punk , metal stars playing all day, smokin weed, havin fun and drinking all day long.
I can't recall a single Sabbath track that was bluesy except maybe Warning, which was a cover. Sabbath riffs are more based on inverted church music triads, making them sound "evil" and "unholy"; that and rocked up horror film music. Zeppelin were blues-based. And folky. And mystical. And melodic. These two tracks are gems.
I'm a Christian and i believe that Black Sabbath/Ozzy weren't any more of a satanist than Charlie ("Devil Went Down To Georgia") Daniels. These lyric speak AGAINST Satan as a warning to people.
@MrTreyrules technically they're a hard blues rock band. They conceived heavy metal without even knowing it... When they debuted no one had a clue what metal was. Now that we can look back on it and all the bands inspired by them defined the metal genre and you realize that they are doom metal as hell, but they didn't know that back then.
Man this takes me back!!!! Was raised on Sabbath , Deep Purple, and so on's music and STILL LOVE OZZY~~any way shape or form his music kicks much azz <3
I like this "version" of the songs (i.e. all 4 together), because it has a solo from every instrument in the band in one song, yet it doesn't sound clunky while doing so
To any body out there who wants to listen, i was a kid growing up fed on tom jones, the beatles, unit 4 plus 2, eddie cochran et al, and these guys came along along with zep, free, ten years after and the music scene just exploded. But forgive me i remember hearing people like neil young and joni mitchell as well, fuck,,it was a great time for music. But then i'm biased.
@ Lakeshore Shooter, I wish I could answer your question but the really cool thing about it is you actually give a shit about it! \m/ Hope you get the answer your looking for. Sabbath rules!
Okay, back to tripping out on the cool video...whooo.man gotta get some good acid the next time I watch this...whooh
@ Lakeshore Shooter, I wish I could answer your question but the really cool thing about it is you actually give a shit about it! \m/ Hope you get the answer your looking for. Sabbath rules!
Does anyone know if Geezer is running his Pbass through a to get that sound? Just thinking of the tech back then...is it just a fuzz or distortion pedal? Please forgive me if this is obvious to ya'all...
I remember as kid I'd sit and just look over this album cover,it was kind of scarey, because I'd wonder, man what if you were walking through the woods and actually ran upon a house like this and this woman standing outside, she might just cast a spell on you, then put you in the stewing pot,but then I was only a kid at the time.
verytime i listen to this i think man they were awesome in the early days. then i listen to there later albums then i start to love there later albums..so its just just an endless loop of loving black sabbath
My second real rock album I ever bought. They were also the third rock concert I ever went to. 1972. I was goth before there was such a thing. I remember my parents saying how I would grow out of it. This album is the best of all of Black Sabbath and I play the cd at least once a year. A masterpiece of sound.
0.38 == one of the greatest passages of heavy rock from the greatest heavy rock album EVER .Great memories and this album only cost about 6 quid to make !
Being from the Salem Mass area this song really hits home the whole witch trial era and how absurd it was condemming innocent people by calling them witches!
This is my favorite album black sabbath ever wrote, the studio shortened the hell out of the material. If they recorded all the music they submitted it would be 2 records and or 2 cd's. They should have been considered a jam band, but rodger bain and tony hall stifeled there true talent and they had to write things that were more organized, the rest was all mediocre.
I ingest a shit load of alcohol before I can really appreciate Ozzy's old stuff like this. I noticed that at his live gigs he doesn't play songs like this because he's trying to stay clean.
@therealiscariat Well, he's got the right idea. When I last saw him at Hammersmith Apollo, he sang Demon Alcohol but not Sweet Leaf. One about the bad side of boozing and the other glamorises smoking joints.
I shouldn't need to drink to appreciate him, anyway.
have the deluxe set of this first album on CD and it's well worth it,many outtakes, liner notes, pics, and nice inside pic of behind the 1st album.Great!!!
I've been straight and drug free my entire half century plus on this planet and this song still rocks me! Thanks you MR Iommi and Sir Geezer! You have defined a generation and more!
Literally flipped out on acid while listening to this album. I had to turn it off because I was tripping way to hard.. I accepted the fact that I was not coming down again... what a great trip!
This song is actually about a story by HP Lovecraft called "Beyond the Wall of Sleep." It's about wolves who chase you in your sleep and you can't get away even if you wake up.
i guess im gonna burn in hell for listening to this satanic music!!! but im not scared, cause ill see all of you there to !!!HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!! LONG LIVE SABBATH!!!
@harysman What! Hard rock band - Sabbath? Sabbath are not a hard rock band they are a Heavy Metal band and king of the heap....you got the Zeppelin bit right
I will never forget the day that I shook Tony's hand and told him that he needed to get back with Ozzy. My best friend thought Tony was going to blast me in the face. LOL! Who is he trying to fool? There would be no Black Sabbath without Ozzy.
hmmmm...this album always brings back the acid/mescaline-n-speed memories , goodtimes, glad i and everyone else that can relate survived. A few dint though.
The Paranoid 8 Track was the first I ever heard Black Sabbath. I've been hooked on their music forever after. Great licks especially the double lead in this song. Very creative. This song puts me in a good mood as does many of the early Black Sabbath songs did. Ozzy and Toni made some great jams back in the day. And the bass player and the drummer are both awesome. Great jam.
@zZzMotherShipzZz it's moving but it's supposed to make high ppl doubt themselves about whether it's moving or not and trip them out even more.......pretty much its to help that acid kick in so its to your's and mine's benefit hahaha :)
I am so glad that I know better than to give Sabbath the copy right to heavy metal. It just aint so! If you dont know that then you havent heard enough music. The music came from the U.K. not from Sabbath. It was first brought to the U.S. by.You quessed it .Jimi Hendrix. Jimi left the racial bias of the United States and brought back this sound. It is owned by many bands! Just a different level of heavy.
on the radio now he is classic rock all im trying to say is their is alot of great music out their so give it a chance even in that generation their was great metal bands like motorhead
i havent listened to black sabbath in years but was given a chance to sing in a sabbath cover band alot of the songs seem to sound alike i mean dont get me wrong im not putting sabbath down as a child i was a very big mercyful fate king diamond fan and i basically listened to any metal but now im 36 years old and i love bands like nirvana, alice in chains but i can listen to eminem to i feel music has become alot more universal so give it all a chance remember when they wouldnt even play ozzy
some shit just deserves to be put down. lady ga ga for instance. sure lots of folks like her but f#$* those crossdressing freaks. in my opinion someone should have made an omlet out of her "egg" at the grammies. now that would be entertainment!

Just a different level of heavy.

i havent listened to black sabbath in years but was given a chance to sing in a sabbath cover band alot of the songs seem to sound alike i mean dont get me wrong im not putting sabbath down as a child i was a very big mercyful fate king diamond fan and i basically listened to any metal but now im 36 years old and i love bands like nirvana, alice in chains but i can listen to eminem to i feel music has become alot more universal so give it all a chance remember when they wouldnt even play ozzy

some shit just deserves to be put down. lady ga ga for instance. sure lots of folks like her but f#$* those crossdressing freaks. in my opinion someone should have made an omlet out of her "egg" at the grammies. now that would be entertainment!
