  • this is so out of time its painful

  • Is a 5 string bass required for grade 8? All the videos I've seen of people doing grade 8 have 5 string basses.

  • not bad, you can obviously play well but i think the tapping part at the start like 30 secs into the vid was really crap, definetly need to practise your tapping buddy

  • Five stringed bass :D

  • Ouch my ears, man u need to practice... loads! I would agree ur a generally good player just need lots more practice on this one

  • Very nice piece. You learned how to do that with Rockschool? I think I'll sign up.

  • another nice piece. well played.

  • Make sure you phrase everything correctly. During the slap section especially you need to payuattention

  • I agree with SrBridges, good job but make sure you read the bassline properly in the book, the notes are right but make sure you get the rhythm right and the improvised bassline you need to stick to what the track does because it will fit with the drums better, good job though, a bit more work and it'll be great

  • yeah thanks man

I know it's not quite accurate, I nailed it though and got a distinction in the exam so it's all good.

I'd only been playing it for a week or two in this vid.

  • Nice one, but, a humble advice: just work more in your phrases; not all in soloing is being harmonically correct. The key on latin music is being a "lil bit" more rythmical. A DARLE ;D!

  • Cheer man, thanks for you help

I'm going to take this down and post a new video as I'm not entirely happy with it, it's really old. The phrasing and rhythm needs to be improved!

It's just finding the time to record...

  • cheers man, go for it I say!

Great to hear that you're doing music in 6th form as well, keep up the good work!

  • i'm listening to things like avenged sevenfold, metallica, a litle bit of green day. people like that really. Older rock is cool aswell

  • i'd definately pay £5 for your solo album, thanks for replying :) i'll keep an eye out for your work :)

  • nice one dude, no worries.

Add me as a friend, I'll put out a bulletin or something every time something interesting happens.

What kinda music are you into listening to?

  • you got any idea if it'll be out in shops anytime soon? :P heard some of it... its really good :D

  • ha ha ha ha I wish man!

but yeah, I do have a plan to record an album... I'll be selling that for a fiver a copy but I'm only half way there in the writing stages I'm afraid. You'll have to wait until sometime next year for the finished product and then it will be mail order only.

    Cheers dude!

  • not yet just gunna have a look now :)

  • good stuff dude, hope you find it some sort of a source of inspiration!

  • i hope i will :D lol i got a great teacher. year 9 now and working on grade 6, only started in year 7 :D

  • yeah man good stuff, it sounds like you're coming on in leaps and bounds! You checked out my solo work?

  • congrats on your mark :) very well done. i'm learning grade 6 bass at the moment and by the looks of it... i have alot to do if i'm gunna get to grade 8 :S

  • cheers mate, nice one.

If you put in the work you get the results, its as simple as that. Just keep on practicing and you'll get there!

  • Have you taken the exam, what kind of marks did you get?

  • I am taking the exam next month, I'll try and get back to you then...

  • well, what did you get?

  • distinction... 88% overall, 17/20 in this piece.

  • ahhhhh the rhythm is wrong on the tapping.. your making it too difficult for yourself! However, your solo was fecking awesome!!

  • cheers dude

dont worry about the tapping, I've fixed it now! should be posting a vid of "fusion" soon, but my bass rig is at the bottom of all the gear in the band van! ARGH!

  • very mature reply to my comment m8, i respect u more now and ur playing relay is brilliant

  • awesome, thanks again dude...

check out my new posts if you are interested in my improvement, I think that the two recordings of "frozen river" demonstrates it at least to some extent... I've been practicing hard.

Anyways, thanks again for the feedback, and thanks for watching!

  • crackin bassist but ur timimg lets u down in the first part dude

  • agreed... great vid tho

  • cheers for the comments guys... I'm aware that the timing is 100% my biggest problem, and after that my attitude and groove, so I'm practicing 100% to resolve it... so look out for new posts!

    Thanks for watching though :)

  • is than an ibanez if so what model?

  • NO

    it is an Overwater

    overwaterbasses dot com

my bass is an overwater progress III 5 string custom model

  • Thanks for the comments! And after watching this I think that you are more than capable of doing grade 8. I didn't do this piece. I did the 2 that I've put on youtube along with Bonzo. What other pieces are you thinking of doing?

  • I'm learning them all, just in the process of firming up the solo and ad lib parts for Bonzo and Some You Win. I think I will do Some You Win, Sampa Samba and Fusion. I'm really comfortble with funk styles, I hope they wont mark me down for that!

    Cheers dude

  • Nah they don't mark you down. 4 out of the 6 pieces in the book are jazz/funk! I was never that great at slapping so didn't do fusion but I guess it wouldn't help to look at it to try and improve my slap! Look forward to seeing what your other videos turn out like.

  • Sound, nice one. Keep on jamming out!
