im pissed off !!!!! stop that "spacemen3 pinkfloyd pixies jesusandmary " bullshit....rock is blues jazz is blues blablablabla....can't you just love it without anal ize?
i dont think people should get to wound up about it being a "rip of" its a good alternative track be thankful that some dire pop artist hasn't taken it for themselves and shoved it in the charts. at least more than half of the people realise that its been sampled
@linzscott , I love both of the bands you mentioned and I definitely agree as I do with the J&MC comments made by others (the Drums are definitely Bobby Gillespie in a Hole)
Do you think its the Guitar riff that reminds you of Joy Division? I think it sounds exactly like the exit riff from Love will Tear Us Apart
@ZooropaTV I'm not sure. I think the Drums are Joy Division, Guitar sounds like Stone Roses and the singing voice/style is like a mix of both. Not really a J&MC fan so cannot really comment on them. I think it may just sound like Stone Roses because of the eefect on the guitar. That slow kinda reverbirating sound???
That's the Jesus and Mary Chain songs that the drums in this remind me of. I can see what you mean about the tone of the guitar, it reminds me a bit of I Wanna be Adored
It's a stand-up listen to CD. "Summer of Hate" comes out with it. Join the present, It's a hit. The song entitled "Soft Skull" (In My Room) gets you jumping up if you were'nt already rocking that room or party, perhaps only briefly though, so you can break out the new X-Squeezit--fortified with vitamins and other supplements.
Further, it doesn't even compare to what so-called "rap moguls" have done in the last 15 years, "sampling" hooks and melodies note-for-note and in some cases, stealing entire original compositions and song structures. It's a symptom of the current sad state of the industry, but at least it's good. That's more than can be said for a lot crap being churned out today.
It isn't nearly as bad as "Ice, Ice, Baby" or "Bittersweet Symphony", where the basic melody is stolen outright. We can say "It sounds like [blank]" all day long, but in the grand scheme of current industry trends, the offense is relatively mild. Yes, I'd like to see a return to originality, but I can't fault these lads too much when the result is this catchy and listenable.
There's a distinct similarity, no doubt, but I think labeling it a blatant ripoff is an overstatement. Truthfully, what they're doing bears little difference to anything else out there. They've borrowed from/emulated a number of distinct sounds and combined them
@cone3one69 You can't say JAMC ripped off the Beach Boys. They did something in 1988 that had not been done before by anybody. Ok, the Crystals, the Beach Boys, Velvet Underground, but they did their own thing with it. Wrong?
finally they admit they ripped off JAMC's Head On and The Crystals' Then He Kissed me. Search on Noisevox - Crocodiles - Interview: Part 3 of 7, they finally have the balls to admit it. Took them long enough. So that's a finger to all you sad asses who've been in denial.
@airmiami who actually gives a fuck? this is still an amazing song is it not?! now enjoy it dude. i cant belive you went that far just for that one thing. TROLLIN.
those of us in san diego who knew better the whole time have been insulted by this band from the onset. these kids were screaming into microphones and throwing temper tantrums a few years back . the song is "ok " at best but as fake as fuck . i'm still trying to decide if i hate them as much as the strokes
which doesn't mean one group's better than another

because that's the way it works.
