I just realized that the lyrics of this song has a George Orwell's 1984-feel to it. Especially the part about being in a place away from the "television" or telescreen. Creepy.
DM's original was about being stripped in a metaphysical sense, whereas Rammsteins' [note they leave 'down to the bone' from the chorus], is definitely about being stripped in a physical, sexual sense. And it works, albeit in an unsettling, menacing way. I have loved and collected DM music since I first heard 'Dreaming Of Me' in 1980ish. And I love this cover.
No cover can beat the original, but I will take the Shiny Toy Guns cover to this one any day. I'm a huge fan of German metal/techno, but Rammstein has always been lacking in my opinion.

You are totally right. The American accent normally is, that it smooths up the lenguage. At least thats what im used to hear from "foreigner" of english speaking countries. Thats why i always try to get my harsh german pronounciations out, if i speak with Americans. Well, atm im at least normally recognized as a Asian cuz i try so hard to cover it up :D But well, better then to be se steretotype german :D Greetings from ze German :D

rammstein kicks ass so does depeche mode..this sounds nothing like the original so they are entirely different songs...this song is more raw...depeche is way more catchy..

@5DollarFootLong44 I'm not that big of a DM fan myself but I believe it's all about where the singers are from. Till Lindemann speaks German and has a naturally deep voice while DM's singer is British meaning their voices are different.
@BloodLibel94 Rammstein aren't Death metal, They're called "Tanz metal" or "dance metal"...Or Industrial metal. And I prefer Rammstein's version to the original to be honest. Say what you like about them, but Rammstein's music is all very well produced...A little repetitive maybe but good quality nonetheless.
