being one of the rarest birds on earth they could have gotten it a nicer cage. that cage is tiny and its boring. those things live in the jungle, they have it in some sort of different envirnment plus they could have given it one way glass or something so its not constantly surrounded by humans right on top of it.
The cage was just a holding pen before transferring the birds to the wild. It was a great way to get the support of the general public and it was held over one weekend only.
It's not one of the rarest birds on earth (in saying that I mean there are other birds significantly worse off than this, it is rare though , and certainly one of the rarest parrots in the world, if not the rarest.
Erm, there are so many birds bigger than than the kakapo, which all fly. It's not the size that limits it's inability to fly, it's the fact it evolved amongst no predators, rendering flying unnecessary
Those parrots are 120 kg and they cannot fly or barly fly...
