Is it sad I prefer this old, nearly word-less trailer over most movie trailers I see these days? I guess I just like the setup. Semi-randomized clips set to parts of the movie score. Fairly simple but does a good job of drawing the viewer in. It's probably an odd thing to say thirty or so years down the road, but I'd never seen this trailer before (I wasn't even born then), so it's certainly interesting to see.
the effects are so bad in this film, the newer ones are definetly better, don't look so dingy and fake. Also didnt george lucas recently say that darf vadars costume was modelled on an s&m suit he saw in LA, or is that just a urban myth?
The 3 years between 1977 and 1980 seemed to take FOREVER. I remember finally getting to see Empire the week it was released at a friend's birthday party. I know the adults loved it, but I felt ill afterwards. It was so dark and unhappy at the end. Darth tells Luke he's his father and cuts his freakin' hand off. Han gets frozen. Ugh...when you're 7, that's some heavy shit.
I'll always remember the summer when I was seven years old, my dad taking me to see this movie. I can't believe it's been twenty-seven years ago. Anyway, I loved the Star Wars movies then, and I still love them.
Love this film! :) :)

Dude... what do you expect in the year 1979? Avatar-quality effects?

much better then that cgi crap they are pushing down our throats. The effects are superior to that fake shit we have now. you got it all wrong bud.

Oh, this proves that Darth Vader takes off his helmet and wipe it with glass cleaner from time to time.

Ditto.
That wampa scene at the start scared the living shit out of me. I was about 4. Saw so many movies that year.
Guess the economy was always good for movies.
