thank you so much for this video! It didn't occur to me to look for an OA group, but I've tried to find a group in my area. I finally found one this week (EDA) but the info online wasn't updated so it doesn't exist:( I went on oa.org and found lots of groups listed near me! I will go this week if the information is indeed correct and they are where and when the website says.
Thanks for the review. I am considering going to a local meeting of OA. I have managed to keep a decent amount of weight off, but it continues to be a struggle because of the compulsive desire to eat. This was very helpful. <3
OA is great for working out your issues with food.
I speak from experience though that is tough. Tougher than any diet or exercise program. Because OA forces you to exercise your mind and deal with the issues that cause you to overeat in the first place. For me that was like pulling teeth! But well worth it!!!
dude, just make yourself. if you make yourself go once, confidence will no longer be an issue. these folks open their arms wide and take you in. and when you hear about all these other folks problems, you realize that you are among people who are the same as you.
seriously, just force yourself to go, just once. it will be so much easier to go the second time.
I've never been to OA, I lived in rhode island and there I got a random email from a woman with MPD and EDs as well as other addictions and told me she was starting an EDA meeting at the Brown University campus well It ended up only being me and her for a long time we'd get other that would come and go..but anyway it really did help. if you dont have OA where yo live there is EDA same thing, 12 steps all that its cool just another option my freind (before she passed away) went to OA as well.
and running an EDA group and going to OA as well helped her alot, she held on for a very very long time. Its not a success story I wish it were but in a way it is, it still helped her and I dont know what im trying to say. It helped me too. and they are free which is awesome. eatingdisordersanonymous[dot]org the difference is that EDA believes in Balance not abstinence like OA does. Going to both though Ive heard is even better !! just my worthless two cents :-)
hi. I never knew that there was such a support group out there for overeaters. I need to lose weight but I know that there's know point in giving it a try unless I'm get support to find out why I'm eating the way I'm eating so I'm going to look at the website and see if there's any meetings in ireland.
well im going into hospital next week for my ana and the only good thing i suppose about iit is there will b a lot of support and there are so many teenagers there like me
hi fran....i too found a lot of help in OA...many people do not realize that there are OA groups in many countries around the world....the oa dot org website has a listing of the meeting locations in brazil....perhaps there is one near where you live?....if not, the OA website also lists online meetings....
What's OE? I was talking about OA. Anyways, they support higher power - whatever that may mean for you. It could be a God, a dog, a cloud, a foot, whatever works for you.
in OA, people are encouraged to take what they want out of the program and leave the rest, whatever feels best to them. i know athiests who get a lot out of the support of OA. i haven't experienced them being discrimiated against.
The thesis I'm going to present for my specialistic degree is about the blog communities for the support against ED.
In Italy pro-ana and pro-mia official blogrings are not accepted: on the contrary, we have personal blogs of people who are trying to get out of ED, and you can see how they form small communities, and how important is to them having the reciprocal support of other people to keep going.
Interesting. I would love to read it when you are done. Let me know if I can help. I am not pro-ed but I have been interviewed on this subject, in a magazine, the article can be found online.
and on the opposite end of the spectrum I have a ton to say about pro-recovery but this is from us standpoint. I would really be interested in reading more about how it works in Italy!
I've thought about trying them. I wasn't sure how welcoming they were to people with more of a tendency to restrict than to binge. Thanks for the input! I notice at Jimmy's AA meetings, I've always told him the steps so easily fit EDs as well.
Dylan, I really think they would help you. You will find all eds in there, all body sizes, all everything. Remember, everyone is there for a reason, we all share these issues and we all are seeking some kind of help, not judgement.
Yes i was thinking of joining somesort of social group (ive had therapy for 5 years and it's not helped all much) I have OCD and i understand what it's like to not be incontrol..I think your really great and an inspiration to all! :)
Thank you so much! I just love OA, here in San Francisco we have themmed ones like anorexia/bulimia, body image and sexuality, lesbian/gay/bi/transgendered, positive pitch nights, chips, literature, oh God it's wonderful to see so many people unite n fight!

I found out there is a group in my area! I don't know whether they have an age limit though. Is it just for over-18's or is it all ages? (I'm 17)

MyOwnStickFigure 4 years ago
Not exactly support groups. I have a whole team of doctors that I see to help me recovering from it.
FranFromBrazil 4 years ago
that is so wonderful
you are going to make a great therapist and really help so many people, you already are now with your vids!

in OE you have to believe in a higher power like AA. they discriminate against athiests.
