At the time, they wanted it to be like a prequel to the films, when Clark Kent starts his superhero life in his caped suit. Like Smallville, Kent's suppose to be young and dating Lana, only he's around his 20's and he's starting his newswriting career. They made the effects and writing similar to give it the same look and feel of the movies.
it's confusing to explain but i'm thinking originally Bizarro had an S on his chest in the same manner as Superman and it wasn't until later that a writer or maybe the creators decided to reverse the S. i've seen pictures of Bizarro in comic books with the forward S and backward S and then there's the era where Bizarro wore the "Bizarro #1" sign to distinguish him from all of the other Bizarro's on Htrea, the square planet they live on which is Earth spelled backwards.
This was the show that first made me like Superman as a kid. It's always nice to see clips again, thanks for posting! And this show really did everything right with Bizarro, unlike Smallville which changed everything about him besides his name.
I know Smallville has taken some liberties with things, but I enjoy the different takes on some things. Having a phantom escape from the phantom zone and snatch a small bit of Clark's DNA and replicate himself into an imperfect clone is better than some goofy duplicator ray, in my personal opinion. But hey, I'm not knocking anyone's right to their own opinions, either.
Hell yeah! Gerard WAS Superman, this routh looked like a strange mannequin of some kind, and was totally void of personality save some pale imitation of Chris reeve. His suit look shitty and not superman while Gerard's suit was straight up. Stupid synger.
Based off what I've seen on this show, you have to be kidding me. Everyone on this show is so awkward, it's like watching a fanfilm. He had a better suit, but that's all he had. I know a lot of Superman fans think highly of this show, but I just don't see what's so good about it. Budget or no budget, couldn't they atleast try a little harder in the acting department?
I don't know what to say really,I guess some just see the fantastic nature of it as fun; very in spirit with comic books. I guess it's a very particular thing. You're so right on the suit. I think most of the kik of this show was just to see a guy who basicly lookt like superman flying
lol...classic tv. i rember watching this show. looking at back i thought this show was AWSOME. NOW...its still good but corny. but that is a goodthing because if i need a laugh i just pop this sucker into my VHS player.LOL
I do think that John Newton was a better Superboy/Clark Kent. Plus, the chemistry between him and Stacy Haiduk (Lana Lang) was amazing. Did you know that they were actually dating each other while filming the first season of Superboy. I wonder how the series would've been like if John H. Newton had stayed on the show as Superboy/Clark Kent.
Scott James Wells sucked at being Lex Luthor. Im glad he got fired. Matter of fact,i just got done watching his horrible performance in the episode:Luthor Unleashed.
0:09 -0:14 is my favorite line. Makes me think about why his character feels responsible for Bizarro's existence in the comics.

That was a good way to make bizarro but shouldn't that S be reversed.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But then again, this was the 80's, so Scifi then was as elaborate as that.

awesome! I wish the would release Gerard Christopher's season 2-4, he was the best! Luv, Ginger

No, I think the first guy, John Haymes Newton, was sexier! Stupid Salkinds fired him and the hot Lex Luthor (Scott James Wells), too. DAMN!
But Gerard wrote scripts, so he was OK too
