If anyone has any install questions send me a message. I been installing Bulldogs for almost 15 years, know them like the back of my hand. Don't be swayed by some bad reviews Bulldog makes good stuff it's kids who think just cuz they installed a couple 6x9 speakers they can do a remote start and they can't and end up with weird problems or burn up modules.
@probegt75 ha your lucky i have a 1975 ranchero and my column is dead from the neck up i am installing a external ignition switch because the column is rare.
I installed a Bulldog remote starter two months ago, and until today is was fine. Now, for no reason the car keeps starting. I've had to disconnect it after just 8 weeks of use.
At first I was absolutely thrilled (no more cold mornings!) but now I would suggest avoiding this product. What a waste of time and money. :(
@bored1980 Certain systems have a feature that automatically starts the vehicle periodically to keep the vehicle temperatures above a predetermined temperature. Check your manual to see if you have this feature. If so, in all systems I have seen, this feature can be disarmed. Good luck.
@Salfaism I was aware of that feature, but in my case it must be faulty. It had no problems in the coldest part of winter until now. Now when starts by itself without me touching the remote, and ignores any button I press to shut it off.
Self start systems are absolutely awesome things, and I will definitely install another one, just not a Bulldog model. I guess I got what I paid for. Sniff... :(
The description of the Bulldog Security Deluxe I bought said that it had runtimes of 5-30 minutes. Does that mean after a set amount of time the car will turn off even as I'm driving it?
You should avoid using the universal bypass modules which requires a key. There are several on the market which can be flashed to work with just about any vehicle with no spare key required.
I have this remote start system in my little microbe-sized car, and made a tutorial video about how to make a simple safety system in a stick shift car if anyone's interested:
(youtube dot com/)watch?v=Ix82zTsQP8A&hd=1
The safety switch is made with a couple of cheap reed sensors (off ebay). Hope it's helpful. :)
Everyone's bitching about solder. I have soldered many things, but looking at this installation, its simply not necessary. Braiding the wire and taping and zip-tying AND neately dressing your wire and safe and sound up under the under-dash panel....soldering not required.
beleave it or not, this is how just about all shops that install these units do it or they use them cheep but conectors that all fail. my last car burned up just little over one year from it's install, all conection of any kind on any DC wires HAVE TO BE soilded and heat shrink to be done rignt, and repair all harness and neetly store all wire, but the shops charge a lot and do so little, best rip off there is next to a lawyer--------------
wow!! I agree with mrknight410. Solder !!!! I saw a pair of wire strippers in your hand. Use the damn thing not the knife to strip the insulation!!! Tie the the harness together and don't just stuff it all in there. how is someone suposed to fix that mess u made in a week from now when its not working?
Just installed my new Bulldog security remote starter. Works awesomely, though the instructions we're confusing at one point. Very happy, took me about 2 hours. No more cold winter mornings in the car! Woohoo!
Remote start is awesome in several ways. You can warm-up your engine on cold mornings. On cold days you can leave your hot air on warms your entire vehicle. On hot days you leave your cold air on to cool inside.
Negatives: Make sure you don't leave your vehicle on for too long. Set engine run time to 5 minutes only. Old cars will overheat if left on idle with air conditioning goin' for too long.
Hmm.. I was thinking of installing this... for a 1995 Saturn SC1.. idk, this seems like a project. Hah, id call myself an Electrician to fucking pull this off. $60 is the current price for this upgrade. They used to sell these in Autozone for $40 in the Summertime. (2011)
7:33 - I've just ordered a Bulldog remote starter (Model RS112) and my little econobox has a similar immobilizer & transponder.
I'm going to cut the transponder off the key, and stick it inside the steering column, right next to the ignition barrel. Then I should be able to use a standard cut key. I hope... :)
I am pissed cubs the damn video wont play long enuf to figure out how to put the SHIT in!! Im returning this bs back to the store and go the old american way of finding a service center or best buy that let u buy and install at the same time!! Don't waste ur time I wasted a whole damn day!!
You guys suck! Try answering your phones or selling additional parts required for installation or returning emails. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THESE CLOWNS! YOU WILL REGRET IT!
@WornOutOldMan Bulldog don't have time to deal with dumbass people like you. If you knew what the hell you were doing you would never need to call them.

not being funny, but have you ever heared of solder????
hondacrazy123 6 months ago
@hondacrazy123
I thought the same thing when I started installing.
This method works better because it allows you to take it out and repair wire easily, and it has the same strength because of the wrapping.
Soldering requires extra parts and a lot of liability from head off of soldering iron, so it's not ideal in a do it yourself kit.
