my favorite bette davis movie ever [even above ' all about eve']...she was never more beautiful....the great music score....gladys cooper as that bitch of a mother...the cigarette scene...its even referenced in 'the history boys'.....love this movie so much!
I can't believe that I'm spending Christmas morning watching your reviews! I can't stop myself. Your memorabilia is absolutely killer. Holy smoke! The volume alone makes me want to swoon.
Irene Dunne as Charlotte? No way. Steve really missed a few opportunities to pour on a gay take on this movie. First, Henried steps onto the screen as the romantic lead.. WTF? By the end of the movie, you're crying and pronouncing your undying love for this dork. And that insufferable BRAT of his nearly RUINS the movie. Why must Charotte, to justify her adulterous love, prove herself an even better mother to this unwanted pregnancy than the egg donor? No wonder BD didn't want to do a sequel.
Thank you so so much Steve for reviewing that movie! I saw it at university 2 years ago in a tiny TV room and I cried like crazy!!! Definitely a film for fall/winter seasons! I have yet to make my friends watch it, it is that good! I make movie reviews, could you please check out my channel! I love your channel so much!!!! Tons of love! xoxo
Fabulous review, Steve - you did it full justice in the most entertaining way! BTW, Gladys Cooper was just short of 20 years older than Bette. How interesting to find out that WB bought this for Irene Dunne! (another FAVE actress). My favorite line in the movie? : "It's I, Tina..." And yeah, why AREN'T you on TCM? Keep 'em coming - as often as possible! - Please!
I agree. Bette is at her most beautiful in this movie. This and All About Eve are the two movies where she looks the best. Any plans to review All About Eve?
Steve!! Soooo appreciate your recommendations/reviews. your insight and back stories are great!! another movie i have to netflix!! thanks again, doll!! xx

I wouldn't say it's her best work but everyone loves a make-over movie.

Though never one of my favorites, Bette Davis was superb in this splendid film.

Steve is not just a US national Treasure but A World WIde Treasure. He should have a regular TV spot.
Thank you Steve!
