are u gonna make your OHLE Live at some point so ur intercity 86 i think is is can be make so its powered by them instead of just track power As you can get some where the pantograpth is the source of + and the track -
Hi there; you cannot use live OHLE with DCC. Thanks for the info, and the other complication is when you have hidden sections with OHLE live, you need to run the wires all the way around the layout. Also, by the way, since Hornby went to the 5 pole ringfield motors, overhead current collection is not enabled. There is an 'add-on' label added to the box stating such. regards Nick
Hello there, look, I always recommend Hornby. Buy a train set which comes with a trak mat and this will get you started, by simply adding to a piece of flat thick chipboard. Good Luck!
Hi, I do not use track underlay; it only has a life of about 6 years and then 'decomposes'. Recommend you either use cork, or pin directly to baseboard (which is what I do) regards
@jeffdarga1 Yes I do, it features in one of the videos...but I can't remember which one. Currently not working...will be examined in the next week or so, and then return to the rails.
@cheeseballcentral I've spent about £700 on mine so far-analogue- and its half the size of this, but has a rack railway which cost a bit, joined onto the rest which is hornby railway. I reckon this would have cost about £1,500- I can't see whether all ae plastic models or not, but I have used Skaledale and a few other german products, used lighting etc message me and I'll show u a photo.
@MrHozley , I use set track for the corners, rad 2 and 3, although around the city area it goes r2,3 then flexi for r4 and r5. If the board was wider, I would use min r3, especially now Hornby have set track r4 available. regards Nick
Hi there, Hornby Elite plus 4 Hornby Selects. Only 2 wires to the track and rest of power via Hornby point DCC clips. Basically all hornby track, and any flexitrack, use Hornby fishplates. regards Nick
Dude i would like ask you for a train cause u got so many and i only like got 1 but their ur trains :) Love the layout :) I wish i had that much space for mine
Hi Andrew, believe it or not, in the 3 or so years the layout has been running, the track has never been cleaned. I find with Hornby DCC the dirt accumulates on the wheels of the locos but not on the track. Last Xmas, I had a massive wheel cleaning day, turning the locos upside down in a Peco cradle and used a Pec fibreglass brush whilst the wheels spun around. The layout is in a closed room; this helps greatly regards Nick
Hello Pete, thanks for that. The station roof is in fact 6 Hornby station canopies, ie 3 side by side with another three. It yields a gret result. I will be repainting these at some stage. Have a look in the Hornby catalogue, they are still available. Take note, the cheapest way to buy them is to buy the Main station pack, which goes for about £38 in England; this not only gives you 2 of these, but plenty of platforms etc. regards Nick
Biggest private track costs £500,000,

@trainsify - No Need To Start Every Word With A Capital.
Just the first word of the sentence is sufficient.

its best to buy stuff on long periods of time instead of spending hundreds all in a short period of time, maybe £30 a week at most.
