Basically, two Border Patrol agents, attempting to interrupt a cross-border drug smuggling operation, fired their weapons in self-defense at an admitted illegal alien, drug smuggler, Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila. The smuggler managed to escape across the border into Mexico, but he left his vehicle, loaded with more than 700 pounds of marijuana. It was another good bust. Agent Ramos has done more than 100 drug busts and has never hurt anyone, despite having been assaulted and fired upon many times.
Davila surfaced again a month later with the help of his life-long friend, Border Patrol agent Rene Sanchez, stationed in Willcox, Arizona. Davila was also assisted by Homeland Security agent Christopher Sanchez in El Paso, who started an investigation into the case. Somehow, they managed to get Debra Kanof, Chief Prosecutor for Major Crimes with the U.S. Attorneys Office in the Justice Department involved.
Kanof acted swiftly, handing out immunities to anybody who would testify against Ramos or Compean. She also provided the drug smuggler with free medical attention at William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso and free passage back and forth between the U.S. and Mexico, not bad treatment for an illegal alien and known drug smuggler. Kanof alleged that the smuggler was an innocent person who was shot by the agents as he ran away from them, fearing the agents were trying to beat him up!
In a dramatic display of overkill, the two BP agents, Ramos and Compean, were arrested by SWAT teams, armed with automatic weapons, at their homes. They were roughed up by the arresting officers before handcuffing them. And all of this was done in front of their families, including their young children.
They were charged with attempted murder, indicted, placed under house arrest for eight long months; tried and convicted by overzealous prosecutors who were certainly not out for justice!
During their time in jail, awaiting their trial, Ramos and Compean were offered plea bargains approximately eight times. The last offer came five weeks before trial. That offer was for one year in prison and reimbursement to the government for the $35,000 in medical bills for the treatment of the drug smuggler.
Kanof continued to pile up against them until the agents were facing 40 years to life. They rejected the plea because they knew they were innocent and had faith in our legal system.
The prosecutor, Debra Kanof said that all Davila was trying to do was get back home to Mexico. She said the agents never should have chased him, because they did not know what was in the van. (Doesnt spotting a van crossing the Mexican border into the U.S., illegally, count as probably cause to warrant interdiction by the BP?)

And, did the jury of 12 decide they were guilty? The answer is no. Three jurors stated after the trial that their choice was not guilty. Robert Gourley, Claudia Torres and Edine Woods say they were told the verdict had to be unanimous, which was false.
The three jurors signed sworn affidavits that they had been incorrectly instructed as jurors. In addition, other jurors intimidated jurors to change their votes.
What kind of crimes were they accused of? How about going over the speed limit while in hot pursuit of a drug smuggler with 700 pounds of marijuana? Their crime as not calling in to a supervisor for permission to exceed the speed limit. (I am not making this up)
Anther "criminal violation" was when one officer fired at the drug dealer after seeing his partner on the ground bleeding and seeing the escaping drug smuggler turn towards him as if to fire. What was he supposed to do? Take a bullet?
Agent Ramos had an excellent record during his ten-year service as a Border Patrol officer and was nominated for the Agent of the Year award, and stated:
How are we supposed to follow the Border Patrol strategy of apprehending terrorists or drug smugglers if we arent supposed to pursue fleeing people? Everybody whos breaking the law flees from us. What are we supposed to do? Do they want us to catch them or not?

I had my brand new car totalled by an illegal alien, he wasn't drunk as it was 7 am, but he wasn't licensed or insured either.
I am very aware of ALL drunk drivers, not just illegal ones. In fact just this last Saturday night I was at a fatal crash, and the driver was drunk, but also a licensed driver and US citizen.
My point is simply that too many people, legal or not, licensed or not, drink and drive. Over the last 5 weeks, I've only had one DUI crash involving an illegal. I'm not promoting anything for anybody other than the fact that ALL drunk driving needs to stop!

Basically, two Border Patrol agents, attempting to interrupt a cross-border drug smuggling operation, fired their weapons in self-defense at an admitted illegal alien, drug smuggler, Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila. The smuggler managed to escape across the border into Mexico, but he left his vehicle, loaded with more than 700 pounds of marijuana. It was another good bust. Agent Ramos has done more than 100 drug busts and has never hurt anyone, despite having been assaulted and fired upon many times.

No, but Mexico is responsible for 60% of them, PLUS, Mexico acts as a "road" for illegals from other countries. A friend of mine in the Border Patrol has started finding prayer beads. So either Mexis have converted to the Moslem cult, or they're helping other invaders into our country. I know there are illegals from other countries, but they seem to have SO FAR kept a lower profile, and probably lower numbers cause their seeming "humility".
Illegals get a high opinion of themselves when there's too many in one place, they think they OWN the place, when I don't recall Mexico or any other nation conquering a piece of the USA LEGALLY!

mexican thug? he was a soldier . he was doing what had to be done, the US marine was attempting to run a vehicle check point and hit a mexican troop in the process, the soldier did what he was instructed to do to a suspect. the soldier didnt get punished. what was he going to get charged with? stopping a suspect criminal US marine? if anything that mexican troop deservers a promotion. there is a huge diferent of shootign at someone trying to cross a border, and someone trying to end a troop life

I like the story about the drunk cop who plowed into a van with a mexican family in it and he killed the whole family, but the father. Yes patriot, I too am acutely half mexican myself. Texan with many relatives on both sides of the border today. My 86 year old mexican grand mother still uses the word "wetback" to refer to any one who actually swam to get here. Thus there backs are literally wet. And beside my true colors reflect my mexican sense of humor. We mexicans are known for calling every one some kind of name. It simply endearment. How bout you, any family back there today?

Tomasso, the land was bought for 15 million dollars (which wasn't enough). Yes, it was bought, but it was mainly given to the US in exchange for Santa Ana's live (president at the time). So, I don't think the US had the right to take the land from Mexico because the land belong to the people, not the presidents.

Hey knucklehead, yes everyone in the US is some form of an immigrant, but if you studied US history you would know about Ellis Island. So yes, while we're all immigrants, we're not all illegal. Besides that, there is no argument trying to stop LEGAL immigration, just ILLEGAL immigration.

PW, I am also a Californian, born and raised. Due to the MUCH higher numbers of Illegal Aliens in CA, we have a much higher percentage of ILLEGAL ALIEN drunk drivers. I'm "shocked" you aren't personally aware of their effect? I know of three deaths in the last year alone. I had my brand new car totalled by an illegal alien, he wasn't drunk as it was 7 am, but he wasn't licensed or insured either.

I am very aware of ALL drunk drivers, not just illegal ones. In fact just this last Saturday night I was at a fatal crash, and the driver was drunk, but also a licensed driver and US citizen.
My point is simply that too many people, legal or not, licensed or not, drink and drive. Over the last 5 weeks, I've only had one DUI crash involving an illegal. I'm not promoting anything for anybody other than the fact that ALL drunk driving needs to stop!

I agree 1000%. However, the fact that the ILLEGAL ALIEN adds to the numbers Americans "provide" is simply unacceptable. When an illegal alien is found to be driving drunk, they do NOT have a license or insurance, they are not in this country lawfully AND they are driving drunk. That needs to be addressed, ALL three crimes, and handled appropriately, like with immediate deportation to make it a felony when they return.

The penalty for being caught in America illegally is not keeping anyone out. Stiffer penalties would work; imagine if the penalty for re entering America illegally after being deported was automatic firing squad or hanging. Facts are stiffer punishment for committing crimes make people think twice before they commit a crime. The issue of illegal invasion is at such an epic proportion that they no longer fear being caught and deported.

Well here, the Border Patrol is fighting back and Americans LOVE it. There have been over 1000 assaults on the BP this year and since August, they have been lobbing pepper spray back at them. The locals in Mexico are angry, but the Mexican gov does NOTHING to stop the assaults, yet complains about the BP retaliation.
