  • All you Engineers... You'll love this!!

  • sad, sad...but true...lol

  • My dad tells me this happened to him, too.

  • If he was so talented, why would he have such a dead end job doing things he hates?

  • @cugelth3clever Dilbert doesn't hate his job. He just thinks that everybody around him at work is incompetent.

  • Sometimes I can find my self in Dilbert.

We engineers have an ordered thinking.

  • That doctor needed to be voiced by Hugo Weaving.

  • I just saw this video in my Intro to Engineering Profession class. Freaking hilarious!

  • I actually got an A- in communications class. Not sure if it was because i was not like your typical engineer or because it was "communications".

  • "hes not like other kids" racist mom doesnt accept different personalities lulz

  • Millwrights have the Knack, Engineers "think" they have the Knack.

  • What's wrong with being a Ham Radio Operator?

  • Can he lead a normal live?

Nope.avi, he will be a engineer

  • @amArant123

    Winning.

  • SOCIOLOGY MAJOR YOU CAN SUCK ON THAT. Oh wait, never mind. They get more pussy than us.

  • Anyone else searched for the band The Knack and ended up seeing this?

  • wtf is with this JFDhater XD. None of the technology you're using wouldn't exist if it wasn't for us. You would live as a caveman Bob. I can't wait to finish my study, and get out there to work on real problems and help people. Btw i'm at Faculty of electrical engineering -> Computer Science and informatics ;)

  • Somebody (a girl) once called me a nerd for studying engineering. I replied simply "who do you think designs your hair straightener...or your vibrator" ...she went silent and beat red XD

  • Awww poor jfdhater. He has "stupidity": characterized by the desire to troll on subjects you know nothing about. What a shame your not even intelligent enough to become an engineer. Don't worry though. I'll let you know...after I get through all my PRACTICAL laboratories and industry experience ;)

  • Read "Look Me in the Eye" by John Elder Robison. Brother of the author of "Running with Scissors" he covers some of the same dysfunctional family ground but also discusses his gift of "visualization" of electronics and the development of Mattel's "Speak & Spell" and other IC circuit applications. A fellow aspergian.

  • For me, "The KNACK" happened in the Summer of 87' - The head gardener at my school gave me a broken TV set, we took it home and stuck it in a cupboard down stairs. I remember taking the back off and noticing a large plazma arc occuring between two components, caused by a fisure in some plastic. So I got some super glue and a strip of sprung steel and covered it over... it was some months before my Mum found me watching TV through the cupboard door with the volume very low... loved Monkey Magic!

  • too Bad for Dilbert. another Engineer. sux cuz they all figure it works on paper, but have no idea how to really make it work in the real world.

  • @JFDhater

Haha wow, please tell me you're joking. Engineers have developed nearly every everything you've used today, from your house to the computer you're trolling on.

  • @JFDhater You do realise engineers actually build things? Like.. with their hands? Not everyone works in design.

Everything I design I build with my own hands, then I test it, and I see it go to prototype, if it doesn't work in the real world, then I am the on who realises this and fixes it.

Sounds like you are a bitter tradesman because you get paid less than us and we tell you what to do.

  • @roflex2 actually, you are somewhat right, and somewhat bitterly wrong. I took 4 years of university to become an engineer, and after 3 years of working in an office where the site persons always came back with ideas that worked better than what we(engineering and planning dept) came up with. 15 great minds in that office, and sometimes, a tradesperson would know something we didn't. Now I am a welder, and I certainly DO make more money than any of you pencil sketchers....

  • @JFDhater Might certainly be true for mech/civils etc, I was talking about electronic/computer systems type engineering where we do a large majority of the work. Most the tradesmen wouldn't have a clue how to program or design an electronic circuit, wire up the AC stuff? sure

  • My Engineering teacher showed this video to us the first day of class.

  • There are 2 seasons on hulu....enjoy

  • The doctor has a pi symbol on the back of his shirt. Win.

  • I became doomed in 6th grade, a teacher put a half empty glass of water on his desk and told us to write a paragraph about it being half full or half empty.

I wrote it was full. To prove it's full, cover it with a plate and turn it upside down in water. Remove plate. If it was half empty it would fill with water. But no more water enters because it is full of water and air. Doomed I was, if I had only foreseen the future. Oh wait i second I love my life. Think outside the box? What box?

  • VCR is how engineers' spell revenge

  • I've been an electrical engineer for over 25 years, this video always makes me laugh my butt off because it's generally true. We are the Geeks of the world, and we're proud of it. Who do you think designs all of the electronic toys that the world can't do without? It's a great, and relatively lucrative, profession that I'm glad I pursued.

  • @haijikeman It was on Fox. I used to watch the new episodes every monday. only on for three seasons

  • utter social ineptitude. can you say, 'asperger syndrome'?! i knew you could! :o)

  • No...he'll be an Engineer!

  • hes normal

  • "There, there..." x-D

4 years into my M. Sc degree :D

  • OK, maby the ChemE's and Mechs don't like this. But lets face it, you guys are more "normal" and normally hate those of us who are Electrical Engineers because "we think different" if you don't think different, you will never survive as an EE.

  • definitely worth a chuckle

  • lol...@harmonicminorshred...yeah pretty old stereotypical image. but still funny.

  • I'm an engineer and I find this lame. This sort of image is a very old one. No need for anyone to defend themselves either. Most professions seem to get good rep these days I find anyway. I mean, maybe it's only kids who would think like this video.

  • @harmonicminorshred what a pooper

  • that was not.. funny.

  • I remember seeing/reading this comic b4... didn't know it had an animated ver too.

  • for all the engineers in my life :)

  • my gateway to tech teacher showed me this.Funny then and funny now

  • I'm laughing so hard at how not funny that was!

  • that garbage man...what doesn't he know how to do?

  • @bryanthetherocker it's a joke dude seriously don't brag look at it like this you don't have to stick up for your educated mind Jesus never went to college and almost everyone thinks he's kickass you're a looser for taking it literally where did you loose your sense of humor

  • Lol,,cool

  • Lmfao, the ad was hilarious.

  • A colleague and a found this video years ago, sadly we are both radio amateurs that work for a broadcast company..... watching this video made us realise that we had "the knack" since childhood and hence could never grow up normally....

  • Oh no! The Knack!

  • @bryantherocker Calm down buddy, I am an engineer too and it is funny.

No one is better than anyone.

Even during my college years, we made fun of our selves, faculty and departments, we all know how nerdy, geeks we are, but this is what we are and I am proud of it.

We may beat doctors/lawyers in math or IQ, but they can beat us in memorizing ; )

They need us and wee need them as well.

    Smile !

  • @bryantherocker

Do you realize that you are stepping into the sterotype by going off like this... It is funny, there is nothing wrong with being an Engineer, but like it or not, we are different. We think different, otherwise we would have chosen another profession. For your sake as an Engineer, I hope you have the knack...

  • Is that Lt John Casey?

  • apparently the Knack=Aspergers

  • What's Downlode??

  • lolz

  • will he lead a normal life? No...No, he'll be an engineer... (she begins to sob)

HA HA HA, that is funny, but not politically correct

  • I'm an engineer. I have the knack. I also just got my Iron Ring... I can't stop tapping things... tap tap tap tap tap...

  • @jgkloosterman I'm almost done first year. I upgraded from arts, and occasionaly wonder wtf I was thinking, then I see all those upper years with their Iron Rings and remember what this is all about.

  • the doctors voice reminds me of The Brain's voice from Pinky and the Brain!!

  • what ep is this from?

  • season 1 titled "the knack"

  • @touge242 lol, thanx

  • My dad was in the air force. Therefore many high tech or military choices were potentially approved of. But I was never discouraged from other work as long as it was honest.

  • My grandpa wanted my dad to be an engineer. Glad my dad chose a different path.

  • the doctor is the garbage man. lol

  • Alas, if only I had been diagnosed as early as dilbert, maybe my parents could have enrolled me in some art classes or something. Now, its too late, I'm a four years into Aerospace Engineering degree. Doomed.

  • I hear ya, graduated from aero eng 3 years ago!

  • i hear ya there...im in the same boat....im 3 years in, also Doomed

  • @bradstreetff Consider yourself lucky, I did an arts degree and now I'm wishing I'd have done aerospace engineering.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I have the Knack!

I'm a girl studying mecanical engineering... how worst can it get? I always knew there was something wrong with me!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • @sarah7589...there is something worse...you could be an electronic engineer...:-)

  • electronic engineers rule the world!!!muhaha

  • It can get worse. How about a mechanical engineering major who cant spell mechanical?

  • Sorry... but if you are referring to my English.... just know that it is my third language...I would like you to do the same thing in French or Spanish... then we'll talk...

and by the way... who cares how you spell words on YouTube?

  • Let's try French or Spanish, your choice. jk

Sorry for being a dick, I was in a bad mood because I was pulling an all-nighter for an engineering midterm lol.

  • I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a helluva engineer!

  • Electrical engineer here. The sooner you learn to live with it, the less painful it will be seeing normal people function XD

  • A'yup, that's me.

    And I quote:

    "Utter social ineptitude"

    That would be me.

    looking at an electro-mechanical degree.

  • mechanical engineer the worst engineer course ever. avoid it people, it has the worst outcomes.

  • that's me.

  • Bwaa-haa-haa!!

  • enviro eng. win.

  • Yes! I'll be an engineer and I've been an engineer and it's all I need. I've got the knack.

  • And no social skills? lol. Two of my best friends are engineers, this is perfect for them ;p.

  • math too hard

  • I'd rather be an engineer than normal any day

  • @bobobano Yeah, its a bummer that you arent either in real life.... ; )

  • @bobobano me 10

  • Engineering Science > all engineering

  • Is that the voice of the Brain?

It sounds just like him, but without the annoyingness.

  • Yes, it's Maurice LaMarche. Voice of the garbage man and about a thousand other voices you've heard.

  • Mechanical Eng. > Chemical Eng.

  • word

  • Aerospace electrical and software Engineer >> Mechanical Eng.

    I just pwned you!

  • lol a normal life means less drinking haha

  • I have The Bag Of nick nacks...

  • I will not have a normal life hahahaha

  • the old UPN network

  • Lol my D.T teacher told me about this and because we are learning engineering he kept saying we had The Knack :) now i know what it is xD

  • LOL,, funny,,

  • Nerd Power!!

  • I guess it was predestined from birth. I used to take things apart & put them back together when I was a kid.

  • My sister's boyfriend has "the Knack". LOLZ!

  • HAHAAHAH

  • They showed this clip in one of my engineering classes

  • Yeah, it was in my eng comp class. I suppose our futures turned out a little brighter.

  • funny,but bad animation

  • It's Dilbert for crying out loud!

  • ive never saw it before

im more of a Simpsons guy

  • Oh sorry. Dilbert is a pretty popular comic that's in our newspaper. Sometimes comics, when converted into animation are a little more abbreviated shall I say.

  • (my posting continued: )

I am very grateful for this short video which makes me feel understood in a deep way. Understood in the passion and also in the price we are paying for such a focus in life. Thank you.

(Sorry for my poor English. I hope it is understandable.)

  • Incredible: He shows the core of being an engineer in one minute only. I have laughed and cried at the same time. I am a passionate electronics engineer (&teacher of research engineers) and I have also quite some large emotional parts of my life (e.g. dancing, singing). So I know also the other side, but nevertheless: There is so much beauty in "talking to the machines". Creating an electronic system and bringing it to function is a bit like being able to talk in birds language. It is touching.

  • "an extreme intuition about all things mechanical and electrical... and other social ineptitude."

Yes, I'm an engineer - BSEE, 1980. I even have an Amateur Radio (Extra) ticket.

My wife loves having someone who can fix anything.

Stay in school - we'll always need more engineers.

  • "Utter social ineptitude" ;)

Besides, all engineers are required a speech class; obviously that means they can't be completely socially inclined.

  • My college does not require a speech class for engineers.

  • I like grapes

  • SIMPSONS DID IT!

  • " southpark did it too! "

haha, your comment reminds me of "we didn't start the flame war"

  • me too!

  • lol

  • NO!!! He'll be an engineer!

  • lol

  • aerospace...mmm.

  • I wish :(

  • I has the knack too...interesting indeed.

and yes, it is great to have such a powerful intuition...

as good as esp at times, anyone else agree?

  • HKUST LANG106 course video......

    for all engineering students

  • i don't think so.

  • tell that to my face, BITCH! XD

  • lol, I don't think so either...haha.

  • I had no idea, that there was a class of citizen all their own.

engineers are special indeed...how else would anything get done around the world, haha.

  • "Social ineptitude" Ha ha ha!

LOL! I am an Electronics Engineer and a Radio Amateur. I got bitten as a kid and repaired my Science teachers radio when I was about 10 and installed lights in the dolls house at my Primary School. This video made me laugh when I first saw it :) Absolutely superb!

  • thats hilarious!!!

  • lol. I would be proud if I become an enginner in my opinion, but not enough intelligent for that.

  • Haha classic, and so true. I'm an engineer, it's pretty much dead on

  • HAHAHAHAHHA!! SO FUCKING FUNNY xD

  • LOL XD

  • So funny.

  • lol my engineering teacher showed this to us

  • No. He'll be an engineer.

  • There, there... don't blame yourself...

  • I go to Georgia Tech also, and I know what you mean. Of course, I am always trying to break the engineer's stereotype, if that's possible.

  • this didnt have the best part he changes the eeg into a tv ahaha

  • I go to Georgia Tech. I'm an engineer, very anti-social. This video made me realize that this is my calling. Since my childhood I've been destined to be technically and mathematically savvy, however also doomed to have no social life, be a total introvert, and never get a girlfriend. I want to cry. :-(

  • You shouldn't worry about this. I'm an engineering student working for an aerospace company. I'm shy but I seem to get along with many people. I don't have a girlfriend, but I have been enjoying myself with other people. Being mechanically inclined should not stop you from socializing with others. Just be yourself. Do what you love.

  • this is such a big blow 2 engineers they do 2 have social skills!

  • as you use 2 for to... :D

  • I was the same way as a kid. Took anything apart to figure it out and/or fix it. Lead to good analytical thinking which is why I'm an engineer today, nothing less than a total introvert. Don't be ashamed of who you are fellow engineers! You can tease us engineers all you want for being nerds and introverts, but dont forget who created all of those "cool" things in your everyday world! (us nerdy engineers thats who!)

  • hmm

  • I thought this was gonna be a song by The Knack.

  • hahhahahah but also hahahhahahahh

  • me too xD

  • Engineers - once you understand them, you gotta love 'em - they change the world!

As Werner Von Braun would have said - Wunderbar!

  • The docter is the garbag man viose

  • The "docter" is in fact the "garbag" man. It's not only the "viose". I wish I had a garbage man like that. Mysterious, knows everything about everything. Anyways, if you are lucky you might find the episode one youtube somewhere.

  • That EEG sounds like an old school printer lol

  • Let's see, that's my dad, uncle, other uncle, other "uncle" (family friend), aunt, cousin, other cousin, other cousin, sister's boyfriend, former crush, best freind's dad, uncle, boyfriend. Oh mon dieu. I'm so surrounded by it, it rubbed off. ACKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My heartfelt condolances teaacup. The knack is a horrible disease.

Once an epedemic of engineerism is loose you have to leave town. I think the disease started in Aberdeen.

An engineer is horrifficly dificult to kill. You are not adviced to face them head on. The most sound theory of killing them is to use a pen of their own union and lodge it into their throat.

Do not aim for the heart or spine as you will find they have neither. The brain is a weak spot, but the forehead is way to thick.

  • While I thank you for your condolances, I'm not looking to use the lovely information you passed on about causing their demise. Silly me, I try to look past it, but I will save it for future reference. I do agree with you though, the forehead is way to thick. If one could get past the characteristic thick, safety glasses, the eye socket might work.

  • "it's a rare condition characterized by an extreme intuition about all things mechanical and electrical... and utter social ineptitude."

    LOL!

  • 'there there' haha. im unconvinced

  • Awesome!

  • Engineers ... we rock the world :D

    FUN .... looooooooooool

  • sigh thats me.

  • Oh crap, that's me.

  • lmao.

"He's going to be an engineer"

    -"NOOOOOOOO!"

  • I review my self in this kid haha :P i am a enginier i guess XD

  • I have this one professor, every class that you take with him, you would be reminded how awesome it is to be an engineer. He shows this clip...lol

  • That poor child...

  • haha, i had a good lau
