@MovieMad007 i'm no expert in belly dance history but i believe it was predominantly a dance performed by women *for* women - not for men - that is a 'western' thing - originally probably to promote good pelvic muscles to help with fertility, child bearing, that kind of thing.  it has to do w/ sensuality not sexuality - it was really only until hollywood got a hold of it in the early part of the 20th century (mata hari?) did it become more of a spectacle... but isn't it magnificient??

I asked if you were in Egypt, because there they use those clothes in public performances, too. Most are arab women. That is why I didnt get that "distintion" between arab and western women and the "decency" stuff.

U can hv normal joy which has evry person who dance, any dance. The key is western woman start learn this dance most as adult ppl n start from movements while arab as a babies n from interpretation music.

In Egypt dance mostly European women, Arab or Egyptian only sometimes, they do rather for reach Saudis
