  • beautiful song, as for the lyrics.

i love marillion with Fish! i love his voice, his way of expressing and all of it fits so good in this music, this music is just.. complete, in every way! :)

  • The lyrics of Marillion are truly clever for the most part. Combined with the growing addiction of the accompanying music it's one of the greats of the period for me.

  • son los mejores rock progresivo marillion

  • the best

  • no need to comment until you are old enough to shave.

  • @lonato66 ah thats just bullshit!..well, if you're talking about younger people commenting that they just love marillion.. i'm happy to hear younger people recognize real music these days.

  • great tune of fish, but unfortunately a farewell album

    when he was pushing 30

I'm listening to Marillion for 13 years now, remindsme my highschool y.

  • Great song. But even almost 25 years later we havent changed the way we are as people and until we do we will never be a peace loving race "But everything is still the same, passing the time and passing the blame"

But this was a superb album it was just a pity Fish left just after

  • Two things make this album stand above the other 3 excellent Fish efforts: the lead singer's lyrics and Steve Rothery's guitar work. Both men were at the top of their game here and it's noticeable. Fish poured his heart out in virtually every song and songs are always best written and performed when they mean something personally.

  • IM STILL DROWNING!!!

  • A true Fish anthem

  • My Friend Greg Turned me on to Marillion

  • from 3.26: EPIC

  • Right...these lads are not Genesis-inspired clones.

  • @pooperscoopr69 No but wery much inspired

  • Despite the power of songs like this I'm still drowning in an ocean of boose and snow. Time to become a FISH.

  • As an ex borderline alcoholic I feel now just like I did back then that Fish ripped these words straight from my heart. Something like drowning, oh yes, that's exactly what it's like. No one has ever been able to turn feelings into exactly the right words like Derek William Dick. 23 years on, I can still truly feel the despair in these lyrics and delivery. Music and feelings that'll stay with me for the rest of my life.

  • @hardanheavy I think you´re right in your appreciation... Fish is unique to express sentiments

  • @hardanheavy did you make it through?

    Please say yes

  • @hardanheavy no such thing as an ex-alcoholic....but keep clean one day at a time.

  • I love this

  • we're still drowning, clutching at straws...!!

  • Are we too far gone, are we so irresponsible

Have we lost our balls, or do we just not care

We`re terminal cases that keep talking medicine

Pretending the end isn`t quite that near

  • Such a strange track this one. So quintressentially Marillion, but so not. The classic Marillion album title track, but there's something about this one that sets it apart.

  • Fish *could* write a decent lyric couldn't he! ...In other hands Marillion probably wouldn't have been all that capitivating to me. ...Hands of Hogarth for example... (He's written some good things but it seems a lot more hit and miss IMO.)

  • AWESOME GUITAR SOLO!

  • @ToscanoRomano for raging souls

  • Marillion was one of the greatest rock bands of the 80´s, no doubt about that. This song proves very well why. The best part in this song is the guitar solo, so intense! The album was their swansong, and, as you all know, a swansong is the most beautiful of all songs.............it is perfect. Marillion, yeah!

  • @mochris100 you´re right and i think that "Script for a Jester´s tear", "Fugazzi" and "Misplaced childhood" are another proves of their swansongs...

  • suck me off

  • I found asnwer online: Tessa Niles.

  • I have the LP but haven't heard it in years, Who is the female singer at end? She is tops!

  • Great song and a goodbye song from Fish. It was my favorite on the album already 22 years ago. I remember I bought the vinyl the same day it was released. Later the same year I saw them perform and Fish cheered the audience with his whisky. It was great and they would never be the same, would they?

  • This song still gives me goosebumps... Out of interest, where was the gig with ;the whisky'? Saw them at Sheffield City Hall after they'd just done a world tour with Rush in 87' or 88' methinks.. the drumming was markedly better after the tour..technically..

  • The gig was in Stockholm, I would say Nov or Dec. 87´. The arena was an ice-hockey stadium called Johanneshov, Stockholm´s big arena before the Globe was built. Funny you mentioned the drums since Fish seemed to have really fun with Ian Mosley during the gig. And talking about improvement when Mosley joined Marillion isn´t completely wrong either, is it?

  • one day,marillion will rise again...! :-)

  • Best song on the album. Brings all the themes together into the final climax. Rothery's guitar work shines particularly here...

  • one of the best they have ever made!

  • Awesome song !
