To quadmonster88, actually the cone never hit his car. They concluded that this was pretty much the same thing that happended to Eric Medlen. Tire malfunction caused harmonic vibrations that pulled the chassis apart, the problem was the car was not supposed to pull apart where it did. It is designed to break apart ahead of the drivers feet so that the driver is still protected legs and all.

you do need the bricks becauseit reflects the infrared beam from the sensors, and when the car breaks the beam the sensor trips and give the info to the computer, at our track we use the exact same system, its called compulink and the foam bricks are the only thing that you can really use.
I have met John in Brainerd a few years ago. Definetly a crazy guy. But a true racer and champion. It brings a tear to my eye to watch the video. I only hope he comes back and continues to do what he loves. Give em hell John, get well!!

I was at the race on 9-23-07 and just arrived home. At the track they played (1) video about 3 hours after the accident and did not replay it. Texas Motorplex should be ashamed by not running the replay sooner and often at the track. EVERYONE at the track was upset by the lack of information provided by the Texas Motorplex after the incident. They lost alot of future ticket sales including mine by censoring this mishap to paying customers at the track.
this is too easy. At 1:07 you can see as Kenny runs over the lights, something shoots out to his left. Hits Johns's car and it "explodes".
Maybe a timing light fixture....gets squished out by Kenny like a watermelon seed. Shoots right over into John's car.
