  • This was recorded with ONE microphone, as the record company used to proudly advertise; when stereo came out, they'd use but three.

  • While "The New World" is a fine symphony, in my opinion, Dvorak's 6th and especially the 7th are his best; I consider his 7th Symphony to be the greatest symphony of its time, better than Brahms; it's a shame it's not played and appreciated more.

And by the way, the best recording of it, on "Deutsche Grammophon" by the Berlin Philharmonic (recorded early to mid 1970s) it is, of course, led again by Maestro Kubelik; it's absolutely a tremendous work and a great, great performance.

  • This is, in my opinion, the definitive recording of this work.

My only complaint is that there is some genuinely sloppy playing by the CSO; Kubelik was no disciplinarian.

  • My favorite recording of this work, no question about it.

Kubelik did a lot of great work with the CSO.
