  • the HMS hood, repulse, prince of wales, ark royal, bismark and the yamoto.may they and there crew rest in peace

  • there will not be any ship that can compair with the Yamato and her crew

  • I enjoy the glorious sight of Little Boy and Fat Man turning into mushroom clouds, so right.

  • @rinia1864 Can the beautiful picture of the Yamato and Musashi at 1:56 be purchased on line? Being a battleship junkie, I would love to have it in my collection. Also the ship blueprints at the beginning of the video are an excellent touch.

  • Yamato was an amazing ship, but she was already outdated by the time of the pear Harbor attack. I've seen a lot of folks here mentioning how she wasn't used properly, etc but the fact is that the war in the Pacific was where the carrier took over as the key to victory at sea ( which is what made Midway a turning point for America when so many Japanese carriers were lost ), while the Atlantic had the last great battles between gunships ( like the hunt for the Bismarck ).

  • @cyril1917 she actually got refited with 162 0.98 inch aa guns and 24 5 inch dual purpose guns so she was up to date remember it took 300 planes at least (not known how many exactly ) 11 torpedoes and 8 1000 pulnd bombs and the musashi took17 1000 poulnd bombs and 19 torpedoes

  • It is a shame that she had to be sunk!

  • Lets me ask if there is a protection against a flying 18 inch projectile today?

  • "Sleeping Sun".......... Very appropriate music as tribute to the Yamato

  • Yamato & Musashi are the most beautiful & elegant modern warships ever put to sea.

  • Herman Munster rules

  • Music fits perfectly to the tribute

  • Yamato was the be all and end all of battleships

  • Kill the Kimchi Korean !

  • my grandfather was on there and past away last sumer

  • if poseidon is true why did he not protect yamato

  • what is the song title?

    that is so moving.

  • The only pitiful thing about the utter destruction of the IJN is way it was sacrificed by high command. Either way Japan was logistically unable to continue operations. No fuel, no food, a pitiful unnecessary waste of human life. If they were so hell bent on dying for the cause, it should have been high command that killed themselves.

  • They asked for it..............they got it.

  • the day a war end the next one starts.

every nation on earth wants number one to be taken down.

will make red dawn look tame.

  • What name is this song? very nice

  • @kosu1980 Nightwish - Sleeping Sun

  • Thank you

  • At first, when the US Navy heard that the Yamato was coming, some officers considered sending out US battleships to face her, making it one last battle for the blackshoe sailors. But then reason took over - if our people did that, we were going to be hurt, and badly. They sent in aircraft instead. There is somthing spiritual about the Yamato.

  • i have nothing against the US but they had no right to attack this amasing ship

i watched a documentary the other day and just hours before the pearl harbour attack an american destroyer fired at a japanise mini-sub with no reason

the america-japan pacific war should never have happend

it started through the carelessness of a US destroyer crew

  • @warriorxp111 Excuse me? "Just hours before the pearl harbour attack" (your words) implicitly recognizes that the Japanese naval air attack had been planned months before and already initiated when the USS Ward found the minisub in a restricted defense zone. The planes were fully armed, aloft and enroute, making the Ward-sub encounter irrelevant. (Btw, the November 1941 "diplomatic mission" of two Japanese envoys to Washington was a deceipt intended to obscure the forthcoming attack.)

  • @PipeDD714

you need to watch more history documentaries

the minisub was 5miles away from the restricted zone and that the planes/carriers were nowhere near pearl harbour at the time

but an american recon plane was spotted over a japanese naval base some weeks before the attack

  • @warriorxp111 My info comes from sources such as Walter Lord's "Day of Infamy" and "U.S. Destroyer Operations in World War II." Did recently see a (Discovery Channel?) documentary on the fate of the five midgets ... don't recall it placed the Ward action outside the defense zone. I'll be in Hawaii next week and would gladly check further. Your sources? Do you recall the Japanese base reconnoitered or a more specific date?

  • @PipeDD714

i get my info off history/discovry channel

    the internet

and i also do alot of reasearch on the IJN and alot of the info i get clearly states that the midget subs were not in american territory and were not posing a threat

and the japanese base that the recon plane was spotted over was the same base that the recon plane was spotted over was the same base that yamato was mainly built in (not sure of name il find out)

    GL in hawaii :)

  • Germany had the highest technology in WW2.....

Though Japan had better Ships than Germany , and Japan's navy had 2/3 of the toatal of English and USA navy.....

  • Yes, the battleships were magnificent, all of them. But it wasn't about ships and guns and steel - it was about the courage, honor, and utter dedication to duty of the MEN, who rode them, particularly the Yamato's last sortee. Even their enemies were filled with respect. Nobody, nowhere ever, thought of the Japanese as cowards!!

  • The Yamatos were indeed magnificent battleships. However, battleships were simply out of place in WWII. Without adequate air cover, battleships - no matter how fearsomely built - proved to be little more than huge armored targets for the air armadas that ruled over the Pacific. Yamato was sunk by carrier aircraft after sinking only two destroyers and a little escort carrier, and Musashi was similarly destroyed without her ever firing a shot at another enemy vessel.

  • Yep, you are right ... however in the future when we develop weapon systems that simply can annihilate and shot things from hundreds of miles á la the railgun etc. Huge Battleships will probably get a revival and this accounts especially in space if we ever will travel there with modern space ships ;). The BBs will be the rulers of the galaxy and with railguns on our planet especially if those guns have a range of +150 miles and have the added advantage of being very accurate ;).

  • Carriers will be obsolete by then especially when sooner or later new defensive systems will be invented for warships that protect them from multiple air raids ;). The Phalanx system would be one which is also in use if I am not mistaken.

  • @Treetop64 Actually, sir, the reason why Yamato and Musashi have such a limited combat record was HOW they were used. For all intents and purposes, they were used as rear echelon command ships, not front line combat ships. Even though Yamato was part of the fleet that hit Midway, she was about 480 kilometers behind Nagumo's carriers, and thus saw no combat. The Battle of Leyte Gulf was the first time the ships had seen any kind of combat action.

  • In simple words this ship was the BIGGEST war made weapons platform ever constructed!

NO plane, NO tank and NO warship (even up to todays standard) that was build with big guns in mind (so no carriers) was EVER bigger ... it was simply the biggest War-made ship that could destroy anything in its wake and that was within range of the 40 kms of its mainguns including entire land devisions and that with near impunity - so basically it was not only the supreme ruler of the sea but also the land!

  • ajsknight, totally true.

But it was not the ruler of the sea or land....the time of the battleship had peaked before her time and it was now a world ruled by the sky (planes)

  • The Yamato had more firepower then entire Tiger tank battalions and its armour was nearly impenetrable in certain sections for the standards of the WWII and this ship even if its radar fire control system for its mainguns was not the best then the allied counterparts could with its spotter planes if it would have ever discovered ships like the Bismark/Hood or the like with them eat them alive cause it simply had MORE armour and MORE firepower!

  • Everything that existed in the timeframe of the Yamato even up to todays standards pales in comparison in pure brute power!

Its this that can make someone proud to do its service on when you know it is THE most powerful warship ever!

  • Well I am also not from Japan but rather from Europe ;).

I also need to say that the Yamato is really a powerhouse. It stands for proud and the might of the old times when BBs where the supreme rulers of the oceans on this planet.

The Yamato is not only the biggest battleship or should I say rather super Battleship built but its also THE biggest weapons platform ever constructed from a human.

  • I agree even if I am not japanese. I 'm Romanian but I respect Jaoan nation from all my heart. Almost all I have is Made in Japan , my car , my electronics....all...and Yamato deserve this recognition and tribute. Congratulations to you...all..

  • Nice tribute to a great ship and crew.

  • If only the Japanese could become strong again :( They have such an illustrious martial and naval tradition.

  • They actually have one of the most powerful navies in the world today.

  • Don't forget italian battleship Littorio class VIttorio Veneto Littorio Roma

  • Yamato and Bismarck. Great ships. My they crews rest in peace.

  • the IJN makes me sad, to see such a glorious navy to be so utterly destoryed... its... just not right.

  • well next time dont fuck with the us

  • Comment removed

  • @ImperialGuard322nd Yamato & Musashi were not inferior, these mighty warships were not used properly by the IJN. Kurita became too reactionary instead of bringing the fight to USN. They would receive a bloody nose and retreat. Look at the small task force Taffy 3 and how such small USN "tin cans" were able to make Yamato turn tail and run. Kurita was "saving" Center Force he simply did not have the mettle to stay and fight. The small USN boats attacked aggressively and won a strategical battle.

  • April 7 is the western civil calendar date of the sinking of IJN Yamato. I think is a note of respect due. From what I understand is one of the greatest loss of shipboard life in history in a single event

  • Yamatos main desighner was Dr.Hiraga ,

He has studied abroad to British Grinidge Royal university department of ship design technology. He desighned many navy ships.

Togo was too. study abroad in England.

IJNs teacher and parents was UK.

  • Japanese navy(defence force) still eats friday curry from Royal Navy.

  • UK learn ship building from Butan

and Mongolia. Both are land locked countries but they had a passion for ships.

Is it true that Yamato was built by cardboard

  • Yamamoto was in the USA.

  • the yamato was a very powerful warship.

bigger than any other battleship by a wide margin and with awesome firepower but there was a price , she was the slowest of the new battleships and renderred obsolete by carriers.

  • actualy she was just as fast as most of the US fast Battleships at 27 knots.

  • The Iowas came out at 30 knots, but by then Aircraft Carriers became the standard.

Strange how Japan's lead on tactics and strategy was wasted by it's leadership.

  • actually, the Iowas are able to make 33 knots, but they account for only four of the ten Fast Battleships, the other 6 made the speed quoted in my first post

  • I remember the Iowa being produced over the Montana (attempt against Yamato), because it could keep up with newer US Aircraft Carriers.

  • ok thnx

  • yamato and bismarck cruise the seas taking out whole fleets together.lol.

  • What is the song?

  • All battleships are amazing. I don't see why this one's so special (especially one made to serve the infamous Imperial Army).

  • It's the biggest and most badass to ever exist.

  • Yes they come from the film Otoko Tachi No Yamato (The Men of Yamato) made to commemorate the 60th anniversary of her loss. It used both Japanese and American records and survivor accounts and is considered as accurate as is possable to be.

  • At around 2:50. Is this from a movie? I saw a few pics that looked like a real life like Yamato class battleship but i know its for some kind of movie. Yet I dont know, can someone tell

  • As much as i hate to admitt it but the Yamato Class Battleships are better battleship the the Iowas Class Battleships. I mean in April 7, 1945 IJN Yamaro took nine torpedos and five bomb hits before she went to the bottom of the sea, the Yamato can take enormous amount of punishment, she might not have good fire control but I don't think any other battleship can asorb so much punishment the the IJN Yamato. I have to give the IJN Yamato credit were credit is due.

  • um no the Yamato wasgoodbut it lacked radar guided guns, an speed.

also the fact that a few Tin can destoryers went up against a Japanse fleet an help win the battle of Letye Gulf, which the yamato was in.

  • what was the first?

  • Appalling! Monstrous tower of the once mighty battleships of the Invincible Armada of Japan!

  • Supreme of the battleships produced by any country up to World War 2.

  • rest in peace ..the giant

  • Just what the Hell dose china or korea has to do with Yamato? Stay on topic.

  • sina is just only facism empire which spreads evil to the world.

  • Oh AGAIN Korean XD

Some of them desperately insist that Japan IS evil, without any evidences.

Anyway here is not for Japanese-Korean battle,I just wish all audiences enjoy the battleship made by Japanese.

  • My suggestion is simple. anicient history

we have (japan ,korea)is impossible to solve.

because we dont have charachter. only china

can solve , because they use character, when

    we are barbarians.

  • I appologized mongolian spot. I have heared

from korean (born in japan)that korean has

no mongolian spot before. But history that

korean protesting is hard to intercept.

  • china is mother of civilization, for we japanese and korean. by the way , have you

    experienced steady with chinese girl?

  • Im sorry I dont know B.D becoming king of Japan. is it exist only in a korean history

book? the king only on a paper? and i have a

important questions. if japanese from korea

why we japanese have a mongolian spot?

    that korean never have.

  • Hey korean, you must study whole Japanese

    history.

  • Japanese army retreat from continental due to

Ming dynastys large scale army. korean peninsula almost falled. A part of japanese

army beyond the ouryoku river into manchuria.

And Toyotomi Hideyoshi is not first man to

    unite Japan.He did re-united.

  • I never thought less about the Japanese nor the German despite the war crimes that took place during and before WWII like the Nanking atrocities and the Nazi Holocaust. Every country all most has it's dark past. America became the country it is today because we took territories away from the natives and Mexicans and killed many of there men woman and children.

  • Thank you for replying. Japanese invasion of

south-east Asia is simply economic matters influenced by ABCD economical purge. The great-east Asia logic is sign-board to hide

    japanese economical-materialism purpose.

And I think Nanking atrocities need more investigation.Of course various criminals happened by Japanese army. But Chinese gov protesting 300000 is too large. Also I am no blinde to war criminals caused by Imperial japanese military.

  • Nice video, but some of pictures were not Yamato, it's Musashi.

  • true some of the photos were taken on the Musashi. There were not much photos if any at all taken on the Yamato.

  • Yamato Bismarck were the Titanics of WWII.

  • I'm not so sure about whether or not the navy would have suffered that great a cut back. After all, prior to Washington Britain and the United States were engaged in a building race with each other, as they felt it was vital, even if concerning a supposedly friendly power, to maintain a battle fleet that could protect their interests against each other.

whether they would have pressed on to launch her in 1940 is uncertain. The prestige of such a ship though would have been its own reason.

  • i always wonder what it would have been like if she'd fought with the allies as the Japanese did in the first world war. If the Asian expansion had given way to trade with the USA and moderation.

A modern Japan born of time rather than fire.

Yamato sailing with the Nagato into the Mediterranean theater or the Atlantic.

How amazing, and history changing it would have been to see Yamato, King George and Iowa sailing in formation .

The world lost so much when it lost Yamato.

  • Your idea is interesting. I've never thought of that possibility.

Without the War between Japan and US,mighty three battleships would sail in same duty.Yeah, for sure.

However,Yamato was built in order to fight against outnumbered US navy.

If Japan joined allies,Yamato may not been built.

Oops, sorry for my dull hard-boiled viewXD

Anyway, what is sure is that "battleships fascinate us so much with its powerful shape and short-lived glory".

  • I wish Japan was on our side fighting the Nazis. Yamato and Musashi getting into a battle with the Bismarck and Tirpitz that would have been the Ultimate sea Battle.

  • my thought is japan at that time should stand

allies. the war against US never selected.

the most failure of japan is invasion China.

  • Good Point they did made a mistake in attacking china But Japan's Goal at the time was Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. attempt to create a Great East Asia, comprised of Japan, Manchukuo, China, and parts of Southeast Asia but the Japanese felt as if America and its Navy was in the way so that is one of the reasons the events of December 7th 1941 happened.

  • @DanielTeivel

To tell the truth, Japan's imperial conquest of asia was the primary reason the Nippon(Japan) went to war with the US. After 10 years of suppying oil to them, and watching them use it to rape and murder the chinese, the US told Nippon their oil trade was over. In response, Nippon surpassed a surprise attack at Pearl Harbor...and so on. Though honestly we should have been with the Axis Powers from the begining, for Axis Power claim and support was ANTI-COMMUNISM.

  • @DanielTeivel If this was durng the 1950's-60's the US most assuradely would have joined Germany, Nippon, and Italy. And if Germany did not attack Brittain, the Brittish would have been an Axis Power aswell. Would have been cool if it happened, ay? Remember, COMMUNISM IS THE ENEMY!

  • Yeah,that's for sure.

    I also love Bismarck.

    Sie ist sehr attraktiv!

  • Wonderfull !!!!

  • Sorry for late.

Thank you!I'm happy to know you like my movie:)

  • There are 2 reasons for me to love this vid, the Yamato and Nightwish. ;)

  • It means this movie is so appropriate for you!

Also I'm happy to know you love Yamato.

I listened Nightwish for the first time while the edit. They are so cool.

  • hmm very nice. As a big fan of the Yamato I thank you!

  • Thanks so much.

I'm happy to know that my video is enough to please the Yamato fan.

Yamato is certainly beautiful and brave...!

  • Great video I especially like the way you mixed footage from WW2 wth the 2005 movie.

  • Thanks a lot for watching my video.

since this is my first time movie edit,I had a difficult time when I use the film.

So I'm glad to hear that.

  • Who asked me about the music

sorry I misclicked "remove" when I reply your question.

The author is Nightwish,a Finnish symphonic power metal band(from Wikipedia).
