that's very nice sharing with the children and educating them! I wish I had someone like that visit my school. I gradated in 2001 so we didn't have anyone like that.
I've seen people asking that same question on quite a few of the videos i subscribe to, and each time it just kinda baffles me. would you ask what the use is Michael Angelo's "David?" or the purpose of the aesthetics on your car or home?
If you have some minimal knowledge in general Art or Art History, you could definitely distinguish between true art and functional art. True art, such as Michael Angelo's David, most often has no real functions and exhibit low level of complexity in its execution. Funtional art, on the other hands, usually involves incorporating high-tech methods to create.(such as a building or a vehicle)
in the case of daito's bodyhack workshop, the art that he created apparently has a function. However, it baffles me as to what that particular function is, therefore I asked such question in my previous post.
You need to be knowledgeable or have the competency to defend a subject which seems unfamiliar to you. Otherwise you will just be throwing out gibberish.
its art for the sake of creating something new. lights and wires just happen to be daitos medium. why do you have to question its practicality and just enjoy it for what it is, a creative expression of ones self.

First of all, it is definitely not a new form of art, as minimal artists like Dan Flavin and the renowned artist Donald Judd among a list of others have used light as the medium. As for Dan Flavin, he used a wide spectrum of light in different color to create a false sense of space within a confined space.
One needs to reason and contemplate on the artistic intentions of the art, otherwise the appreciation of art would only stay on the superficial level.

when did I ever say that art has to be useful to be enjoyable? I was just questioning Daito's artistic intention, as it is discernible that his art involves triggering the senses and emotion of human beings. It is about dong one thing that causes another thing---Cause and Effect.
How could you say that his art has no function? If the art is not function oriented, then you would see complete randomness in the lighting patterns.

Simple creation of arbitrary things, be that tangible and intangible, is not always considered a form of art. (such as piling up a load of trash and throwing out gibberish online)
Every artist has his or her point to make when creating art. Without an artistic intention, the act of creation would just be meaningless.
How can i get hold of these? I want them for a kids party

when did i say it was "new form of art"
youve misinterpreted me, anything you create yourself is new its own sense
all i said was this is how hes expressing himself, and hes using his medium, which is technology
as are all artists
its obviously nothing like a car, why would it have to useful to be enjoyed?
i dont go to art school or have any formal training, but i like to create shit, and someone might consider it art
dont be so superficial
michu070 2 years ago 3
he writes his own programs, and builds his own circuit boards, its not like the guy is bullshitting all of this
its his art, and WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU to judge him?
