  • .05 is ridiculously small. What do you ink with? Rabbits hair?

  • any one see what kinda pen he's using? looks like a .05 micron...if so thats kinda big and clunky for details imho.

  • @panaceaartist I'm guessing you meant 0.5, but that looks like a 0.1.

Judging from the other outlines and shading it looks like he's changed grades a few times, though. Looks like a 0.5 in the background and on the shirt of the bigger face, and anything in-between down to the one he's using. :)

  • 3 dislikes? Suckas!

  • he puts a lot of thoughts and heart into his art, he does not half-ass it. He deserves to be a great artist.

  • Amazing piece of work by Jim lee, he is god's own artist

  • fuckin hell, he was working the night shift on that @_@"

  • bring heroes back!

  • cool

  • What markers are used for drawing these pictures?

  • @Crastics07 It's ink and brushes mostly as well as special pens to create the look.

  • @fmcneillii Ah nice, thanks a lot. He's super nice with all his stuff.

  • jack kirby is a beast too

  • love to listen

  • I appreciate that he states the obvious here about inking. A lot of times when comic art looks bad - to me - it's actually because the inking turned an otherwise great piece into something harsh to look at. I love seeing the original pencil sketch over the finished inked and coloured piece.

  • @RPGoddess u make a valid point

  • What size ink pens were used for this illustration?

  • One word describes perfectly this piece: BADASS.

  • Jim Lee worked on DC Universe Online :D

  • it's so nice to watch him work

  • Jim I have much respect for you...one of the best

  • So then, the 'pencil is mightier than the pen'?

  • This video is priceless!

  • Awesome 8)

  • what if you mess up

  • Met him at Fanexpo back in 07, he was cool, was rushing from a panel but took time to take pictures with me.

  • REAL LIFE CARTOON!!??

  • He uses sakura micron ink pen 01 :)

  • Lee's a prodigy

  • hayden panettiere is hot.

  • i wish i knew jim lee

  • I remember way back when... I wouldn't buy an X-men comic unless it was drawn by Jim Lee... period. I bought some Todd McFarlane stuff, but X-Men wasn't X-Men without Jim Lee.

  • Totally agree. I still feel to this day that no one can draw Rogue, Gambit or Wolverine because to me Lee is the master of those characters. Whilce Portacio to a degree as well, to me his Storm was the best.

  • @jugg2000 AMEN!

  • @jugg2000 Hi do jimlee have a web page i can some how get in contack with about his work?

  • @DJSHADDY2K7 Sorry man but so do about 6 million other people want to get in contact with him...try his twitter page perhaps? But best of luck to you, he is a highly sought after/busy guy.

  • @Rowlannnn21 Do he have a face book page? jimlee?

  • @jugg2000 lol i was doing the samething

  • @jugg2000 How can you, along with 28 other people have read Chris Claremont's X-Men and not consider John Byrne's work X-men?

  • a yeah !!!!

jim lee eres mi heroe yeah!!

    viva mexico

  • What pen is he using? Anyone know? I need one of those.

  • Micro Pens

  • a black one.

  • It's called a micron pen, probably a really small size, like a .05mm.

  • What happens if they mess up?

  • @richmond436

Use whiteout? Or maybe scan it and photoshop the mistake away. Or maybe just ink it in photoshop - things get easier these days.

  • JIM - You are a don !!! GENIUS

  • How dare you say you cannot do likenesses ?!

Apart from Claire, I recognized all of them straight away and I didn't even read the video title, so I didn't know it was going to be Heroes characters.

I love Claire's hair and the shadows on Petrelli's face.

  • Jim Lee is a forced to be reckoned with every single comic book artist in the industrie gives a head nod to this cat

  • Jim lee is a savage he is the best love his work

  • One ttrick which might help...but I haven't tried...resist drawing the eyes first. The temptation is very great...but I think the trick is drawing the EYEBROWS first. The eyebrows will allow you to draw the eyes better. This is my theory. Normally Iv'e drawn the eyes but for some reason the faces never match the references for me. I think drawing eyebrows before the eyes could be the ticket.

  • COOL... i got 3 sakura micron pen only this afternoon and I didn't know about this video!

  • your a magnificent artist, one question i always got ideas to draw something, but when i try to draw them it come out wrong, how would you sort the problem out if you was me? it would help me alot, thanks...xoxo....

  • I love your art work, you are a magnificent artist.

  • MICRON pens Rule !!! Yeah Imma jack my dick while turnt sideways watching this cover Get inked

  • im good at pencilling but inking for me is new and somewhat hard but ill just keep practicing

  • I love watching you!

  • man this PLAYERxHATER guy sure is STUPID...

stan lee is a comic book WRITER!!! not an artist...stop talking out of ur ass if u dont know shit about comics...

  • Pompalompalus, Stan Lee is infact a comic writer AND artist. He actually draws the Spider-Man comic strip in the newspapers. Jim Lee used to be my favorite comic artists as a teenager. I think its cool that he's gotten back into drawing comics after his long hiatus of being a millionaire playboy. :-P But I've moved on from the Super-hero genera.

  • as far as i know stan lee wrote most of the marvel universe and was aided by artists like jack kirby, steve ditko, and john romita sr.

if he does draw thats my mistake but ill look in the subject...

yeah jim is the best i cant wait to for him to get back on a monthly title...

  • Stan Lee's brother actually draws the Spider-Man newspaper strip. His name escapes me at the moment, but Stan might write that as well.

At least I think it was his brother, they have the same last name. But short of a promotional stunt, Stan Lee has never been credited as an artist on any Marvel comic, since he was exclusively a writer and editor at the time.

  • isn't the artist on the spidey comic strip Larry Lieber?

  • I thought it was john romita...i´ve never heard anything about stan lee DRAWING comics

  • Well, Stan Lee's real last name is Lieberman, or something like that. He shortened it to Stan Lee, not sure why. Considering the anti-Semitism in and around the world at the time he started his career, hiding a Jewish name might have been his motive. But I don't know crap.

  • Nice language. Whre did you went to school? I don't wont to send my kids there.

  • @pompalompalus

I know this comment is three years old, but it was so stupid i had to comment on it . you know jim lee as a writer and not an artist ? what the hell ? are you from crypton ?

  • All greatings to Jim Lee.You are my favourite comics artist. And i hope you will post more videos.

  • You've never heard of Jim Lee? Hell, you must live under a rock! You can see his design influences in the old Fox Network X-Men series.

  • okay, at risk of sounding like I know things that no person should really have the time to learn...

you're kidding right? this is a vid by Jim lee, one of the most recognizable artists in mainstream American comics today. He could pretty much START his own company, much less get INTO one.

Actually, I think you're kidding. But on the Internet, I can never tell, really. I mean, it's all typing.

And Stan Lee was a writer and editor, not an artist. But I still think you're just kidding...

    ??

  • Actually, now I'm pretty much convinced you're just kidding. And now I feel really stupid. Well...that's okay. Feeling stupid is just an honest way of being human sometimes.

    Umm...yeah. Have a nice day...?

  • @parlortrick4 He DID make his own company -__-

  • @EarthBonesArt Haha! So true, that kinda escaped me at the time. I hadn't read any Wildstorm stuff at that point, and I was confused about the differences between an imprint and a publishing company.

  • He is in the comic company

    All the drawings are big

And they strink them down on a computer

  • you need to practice still if you go to a comic book company and show them this drawing they will tell you you are drawing way to big for one no comic book is that big and they use profesional ball point pens you need better drawing pens

  • Wait, what comment are you responding to? Most comic artists work much larger than the actual published page; most stuff gets reduced, so how big his drawing is has nothing to do with the size of the comic.

As for pens, I could be wrong, but the one Mr. Lee is using is felt-tipped, not ball-point. But some comic artists will use ball-points.

  • And by some, I think I'm only thinking of Craig Thompson.

  • thanks dude your the best

  • Hey Jim it looks great! What kind of markers do you use?

  • the pen in that video is a micron pigma i think i cant really tell what number though

  • This is some real good stuff Jim.

  • are you the real jim lee?

  • nice work =) you should take your talent to a new level :P. thanx for teaching me more about art

  • Your art rules

  • i agree with what was said above

more step by step instructional youtube vids or even a dvd series please

  • What you share is much appreciated!

  • Great to see more videos from you, for awhile I thought this account was dead.

  • Mr. Lee, it is a pleasure to see your work. Please continue to post this sort of thing on YouTube. A whole set of Jim Lee instructional videos would be awesome.
