  • I love Space:1999, great childhood memories of it, although always been more of a fan of season 1, i did and do like Maya. it's a shame the changes they made between the seasons as i think she wouldve worked well with Bergman. And to be honest, although The Rules of LUTON wasnt the best of season 2, seeing the tweeked effects was fun and the title sequence being given a polished season 1 title sequence was total eye-candy!

Is this a 1999 version of the blu-ray classic Trek...new effects etc?

  • is there any ways to show this in full ?

  • And to think that Martin Landau would later win an Oscar for 'Ed Wood'.

  • class well in ;)

  • I remember this episode and thought it was dumb when I was 13.

  • @pbanta62 I actually liked it, really. I guess I'm in the minority.

  • @pbanta62 - The initial premise was flawed. An explosion large enough to blow the Moon out of orbit w / also either blow it apart, or else blow off city - sized chunks that would do more damage than dropping an arsenal of nukes from orbit. Yet it developed a fandom through 2 seasons because after Star Trek's cancellation, & before Glen Larson's original BSG, it was pretty much the only game in town on syndicated TV.

  • I forgot the original episode. I just realized the parallele plot to that of the Star Trek episode where Kirk, Spock, Abraham Lincoln, Sarek battle against Comander Green, Kaliss, etc on the planet with the stone creature. Good vs evil.

  • Just wait until they find out there is oil there!

    Cut down the trees!

    Build roads!

    Shanty towns for the workers!

    Pollute the place!

Then take off when all the oil is gone leaving behind a shit-hole!

  • Watch out Bob Brown & friends I hear The ALP have plans to deport all Greens to this planet, the vegetation is as mineral as The Greens & the animals are warm & fuzzy too, so you will like your new home.

  • Nice job!

  • September 13th!? My birthday!!

  • Absolutely fabulous editing job! Bravo!

  • This story was stolen from the Lost In Space episode "The Great Vegetable Rebellion", just less campy and without a talking carrot.

  • @euronick6...you are correct.

  • Brian Blessed!!! legend!!

  • They should have made a big budget cinema version of this with some of the original players before they got too old. I am surprised its not been done already in fact. The second series was lacking in ideas but i loved the Maya character.

  • maya is so hot

  • Yet an other great example of how "change" does not in any way mean "improvement". Pointless effort.

  • 2:25 - Pretty cool effect for the 70s.

  • Loved this as a kid a lot more than Star trek! oh and Maya was hooot!!!

  • Catherine Schell's real name is Katharina Schell von Bauschlott. Her father was an Austro-Hungarian baron and her mother was from Hungarian nobility.

  • 5:21

The creature on the right is played by Roy Marsden (aka Commander Dalgleish)

  • Space 2099! Excellent!

  • Mayas sideburns mmmm

  • ...hey...isn't that Hawkman from Flash Gordon???!?

  • Didn't Blakes 7 rip-off this idea from Star Trek ('Arena') as well?!

  • @DaveM599 I think the Star Trek episode you're thinking of is "The Savage Curtain" - with that rock-like alien makes good fight evil. I think you're right about that Blake's 7 using the same idea.

  • I like how you super imposed the second season outfit for the 1st season openings. The 1st season had better original characters and the theme was the best. However the 2nd season's uniform improved a whole lot!!!!!

  • VOLTAN!!!

  • Dope series ! Maya is real royality I cant wait for Season 2 to get on Blue ray

  • Dope series ! Maya is real royality

  • Season two was shit up by Fred Freiberger, the same guy that shit up Star Trek's season thyree...

  • @hayata1968 Really? The same guy?! I hope there's a special place in hell for him.

  • HaHa :-)

At time 4:10 you did write the name of Luton wrong.

For space:1999 the producers used the name of a small town near London.

But the name is Luton, not Lewton.

I was a guest in Luton.

    The clip is nice !

  • @GETTOBOMBER Hopefully they change the details and get it right ;)

  • Although the theme music seems to have been re-mastered / re-recorded in some way and sounds nice, I still prefer the guitar sounds in S1....wonder what sort of FUZZ box they were using?.....cheers!

  • He should have used Verizon!

  • GORDON'S ALIVE!!!!

  • I believe this was filmed at Pinewood Studios in England. It was the thing to watch when I was a kid back in the 70s. That's why it has a good cult following today

  • People of the future will look at us like we would look at people 500 years ago.

  • Silly humans. They're so stubborn and even stupid!

  • is this series really being revived by syfy?

  • maya was kinda hot with that beehive hairdo but the groovy sideburns threw me off! ugghh!

  • Very good love the Titles Space 1999 was brought out well before it's time love too see it and UFO given the 21st century touch

  • This takes me back to when I was a kid. I still love this show even if the effects are cheesy. But hey Juliet Landaus Parents are on this.

  • I met all my heroes @ the Space:1999 convention in NYC some time ago. All the people behind the scenes and on the screen and it was like meeting all my long lost relatives 'koz I loved "1999" since it debued on channell 11 (WPIX) in New York on Sept. 1st, 1975. They played Breakaway and Dragon's Domaine and I could'nt believe how fantastic this programme was while watching it. I like The Testament of Arkadia alot, too. I met Johnny Byrne and many others. They were so cool and personable.

  • I always thought Martin Landau should have portrayed the Commander as a nutty Jerry Lewis type.

  • Everytime I remember Space 1999 I always think about Maya how she would change into different animals. I love this movie so much I wish they would bring it back on regular TV. It's a shame you MUST have cable or internet to see old movies. Thanks youtube.

  • Why in the world did they pick the name "Luton" from? Every time I see this episode, I think "oh, they must be just on the other side of the airport in Chiltern Green."

  • If any show ever deserved a re-boot this one does.

  • Really, really good editing!

especially morphing the year 2 costumes on Mr & Mrs Landau on the opening titles.

  • This is a perfect example of why I wish that year 2 could be re-scored with year one music. It would make many of those episodes much more watchable. I do, however, think the "also starring Catherine Schell" screen would look better done in the early year one "Barry Morse" screen used in the first four episodes.

  • 60'S IPHONE IN 4:54

  • Ha,ha, Lordi in space!

  • First series great, intelligent realistic stories aimed at adult audience. Second series aimed at children, complete fantasy with lower budgets. Shame, I love the first series, the second season is to me a different program with the same characters.

  • Whoever came up with this crazy idea: effing brilliant! Best of luck and keep up the amazing work!

  • 2:35 anything we can do, commander?

    Yes. Beam me up. LOL

  • I thought her name was Catherine SCHELL..not Shell

  • Those opening minutes show the calmest I have ever seen Brian Blessed.

  • GORDON'S ALIVE?!?

  • Stateside, this show didn't appear until the 2nd season for some reason but I still remember loving it as a kid. Today, the problem is SOD in 'blasting' something through interstellar space. MBA could be used as a -lifeboat- for a deliberate escape though. From say.... a wartorn Earth devastated by Scalar (gravity resonance, the next step beyond atomics) wpns. Maya's people being refugees from an FTL spaceship crash ON the moon & key to B5 like transfer gates big enough to shove luna thru.

  • Wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of this series, similar to what they did with Battlestar Galactica.

  • Great reworking of the series two opening credits. I always thought the first series' credits were amazing.

  • Blooper at 0:50 the guy with the beard says,"Get Martin away!" That is the actor's real name.

  • @kertratsregork ..if you listen carefully...he says "get maya away"

  • I like the reimagined second season title sequence with Barry Gray's original theme. Problem is that it just does not fit with the season two incidental music. I hated the whole style of that year. Good effort but there is just about no way to salvage season two.

  • BTW, the name of the planet was Luton. Just like the city in Britain.

  • I used to think that Catherine Schell (Maya) was very attractive. I've seen some regular pics of her back then, and she had some head of hair, she was georgeous.

  • Gordon's alive!

  • @shauntbarry Never been a real fan of Space 1999. You have got to admit (I hope) that these episodes were so...."cheesy" compared to Star Trek done a couple of decades earlier.

  • @mikefastener It depends on the episode. Some episodes of Space:1999 were superior to those done on Star Trek, but other were absolute crap. Both shows could be cheesy at times, but both could be brilliant at times.

  • God, the second season sucked...

  • Sigh.

Even watching these second season episodes in 1977 on Sunday evening when I was a teenager, I couldn`t help thinking during each episode that these "action-packed " episodes should be on sometime on Saturday mornings instead.

Good scripts this season went out the window, compared to the 1975 season.

  • c'est la saison 2, aussi bien que la une

  • can u load this episode here please....

  • I like the updated opening theme, especially the "September 13, 2099 montage. Good Job.

  • the whole series is on youtube in Hungarian"Alfa Holdbazis elso epizod az elszakadas 1/7" that's the pilot

  • ......But that asside you can see Freiberger's influence already taking hold - more action was good, but throw out any serious thinking plots and lets get monsters in as much as possible. Interesting that the original script had Tony stranded along with Maya on the planet Luton, which was supposed to be the initial start of their "love affair", though it was re-written to make the most of the series star Landau.

  • Rules of "Lewton" lol....I know Gerry Anderson's eyes went up when Fred Freiberger came up with the original title. Him being a yank obviously didn't think (or care) that the british audience would find a planet called "Luton" quite silly...

  • why is it no longer posible to view full episodes of the original Space 1999 on You Tube

  • @Runrome proably on copy right grounds unfortunate its the perfect vechicle giving this series a wider scope i of course was around when space 1999 first appeared in august 1975 in canada i now have it on dvd the first ones from arts and entertainment from america currently new versions of 1999 are on blue ray hi definition witch may be also a consideration why youtube will not or most likely cannot show the episoldes

  • loved it.....

  • What happened? Obviously they weren't supposed to eat the thing. The entire flora is up in arms. What happend afterwards?

  • @Ortzmet from your letter i'm amazed you have not seen this episolde by now i will be brief in captioningt onthe rules of luton the rulers voices release three aliens as seen here what you may not know that many cast members fell ill during this episolde look at landau sliding down the hill he looked ill here, any way koenig and maya find a way to win and the planets rulers lose and nature is again given authority over the planet restoring its balance

  • What the fuck is the "2099" crap? It's 1999, dammit!

  • i have been looking forward to see at least a clip from space 1999. i watched series of it when i was 14 yeas ago. i love it so much. but it is the same film called space 1999 now called space 2099. nevertheless, it is my favorite.

  • So where's the rest of it? I've visited their website and all I can find are these partial episodes. Is there more to come? I'm confused. Love the improvements... I just want to see more!

  • This was good fun. I did appreciate your editorial embellishments. I have to admit. As much as I enjoyed this show show as a kid. This was not one of its better episodes.

  • "Courage won't be in the lining of your stomach Nearchus, it is in the heart of a man... "

  • Well then if your going to use stuff from the original series and up date it and make it look good, don't use the crap music and monsters from season 2, jesus wept.

  • yo this iz the best tv programme ever. no doubt man

  • excellent 5 stars to you for posting this

  • Space 2099? WTF?

  • This is an independent project by some folks who have updated, corrected and enhanced a lot of stuff (like the treatment the Star Trek Original Series got recently) from the series while keeping the classic elements of the show intact.

  • there was NO season 3 geeze

    only two

  • I too was a Space:1999 fan, but to be honest even as a teen, I thought the first season was too boring. Yeah i liked Barry Gray's music. BUT it was dull as dirt. Barbara Bain seem like she drunk a case of Niquel. The second season was MORE action packed of CREATURES that were rehased. IT WAS some truly dopey stories. Where was the new UFO'S???

  • Season One titles are sooooo much better - shames there isnt a way to scrub that dreadful derek wadsworth crappy music off the scenes and put some barry gray there instead.

  • Season 2 was very Americanised - Derek Wadsworth's music was it's only saving grace

  • The scenes are copied from prievous episodes.....

  • Neat to see there is still an interest for this series.

    I'm not alone afterall.

  • Schell

  • Yes I remember that Maya followed the team to Alpha, I remember this episode too. Space 1999 had great episodes. I wish that someone would upload them.

  • Season 1 was better the special effects team made the eagles look more believable though in s2 where they looked stiff in the first series i think the stories and plots in the first series was better as well and so was the sets and music

  • @sptol Everything about season one was superior. I know I was massively disappointed when they switched from the Main Mission set to that underground bunker command room with the Radio Shack blinky computer. I particularly hated the replacing of Barry Gray's composings for season 2's space-disco soundtrack.

  • I was the BIGGEST space 1999 fan when I was a wee boy, great to see it here!

watching this again, how CAMP is this programme??

    lol fantastic :-)

  • they should have had Professor Bergman in the 2nd series with Maya and leave Tony out! Who needed Security anyways..speaking of original, can anyone post the original episodes?

  • Ive written to Channel 4 to suggest they do a Bring Back.....Space 1999 with Justin Lee Collins. Write to C4 and pile on the pressure!!!

  • i think koenigs thinking would have been the same initially but with only 4 hours of oxygen left had another eagle been sent and the damaged eagle left on the planet it wouldnt have been possible to have it flown back for repair (unless they could fly it remote without pilots). maybe if the survey koenig and maya was doing was less than 4 hours then perhaps it could have been done with tonys eagle but risky given the time frame (how sad am i!!)

    :)

  • it doesn't make sense Tony had to go back to get another Eagle since they can just use the commumicator to ask Sandra for another Eagle. Also, Tony could of detach the main pod if he really needs to go back. Kirk would not have made that flawed decision.

  • LOVED IT.....well done buddy....was so in love with 1999 as a kid....does it great justice to see it looking so good again. 10/10

  • What a fantastic rework of season 1 titles very good

  • Wow, I just realized that Mentor was the Hawkman dude in that Flash Gordon movie.

  • Why in the begining was Space:1999 and in this seasson change to Space:2099? could answer please?

  • Oh man- it gets better-

this is very cool- cant wait for the next one-

keep up the awesome work- hope some one with a fat wallet notices your talent

    S

  • Please anyone knows how the series ended?

  • dont watch second series. it sucks. first season was great and keep to it

  • I second that

  • Comment removed

  • GREAT JOB, I always wanted to the see the second season with out those DIRE new opening credits, this is a fabulous job.

This episode actually got named the 'Rules Of Lewton' after LUTON AIRPORT, which Friegburger saw a sign for on the way to Pinewood. Could have been worse, could have been the rules of Bedford.

  • sci-fi/space networks should reproduce this great series as they did with battle star galatica .This was my favorite series growing up and today watching it again I can SEE WHY !

  • I would love to see a new series of this like how they redid Battlestar G

  • Brilliant Job on the Opening Credits !!

    5 STARS !!!

  • GREAT JOB! WELL DONE!

  • Looks great, but Catherine Schell's name is misspelt. Also, it's Luton, not Lewton.

  • I remember my older brother and i watching this old series 1a.m in the morning and being in total awe of it all ! At the time this was cutting edge special effects , so cool and there was even a Canadian in it , Barry Morse. I still love it .

  • I always enjoy seeing people's takes on the opening of Space: 1999.

    This one is quite good.

  • I always preferred the more mysterious and cerebral feel of the first season.

  • I feel 13 years old again! And with such a "dog" of an episode as "Rules of..."

  • Please... not Fred Freiberger. Koeking's gonna grow a mustache like Steve Austin did :-/

  • '2099'... Wonderful I would like to see that movie.

  • if you read up on the second season, there was so much discord between the cast and the producer, it was one of the factors of the show being cancelled. the cast were great!!!!

  • I don't think anyone was taking credit for someone else's work.

  • This is a very cool new remake of the opening credits. Congratulations for your work Wolfspace.

  • "Atmosphere breathable"...beh. How come everywhere they land there are trees and you can breath the air and looks damn like, well, Earth? I never swallowed that even as a kid.

Also, in this episode, I think Tony was a chump for not suspecting Commander and Maya were up to more than "conducting survey." What a sucker!

  • @libdash i think the koenig chrachter felt responsible for maya he after all destroyed her home world though it was neccesary with brian blessed's mentor in new adam new eve too the alien forces different relationships this could of been explored beyond just this episodes perameters they seem to set up interesting plot and chrachter twists only to disregard them later proably due to time constraints they after all did not have the budget or time given season 1 i still love space 1999 though

  • Nice new graphics

  • Awesome video. I always loved "Space:1999".

  • i hope they remake this series WHY NOT???

  • Yes why not... but let's hope that we NEVER get another executive producer like Fred Freiburger again. Let's try for someone like Gene Coon or D.C. Fontana.
