freetrack is now in arma2 if u update the game with the latest build beta patch 60588 it also makes the game run smoother and other fixes ok .you can find this patch on armaholic website now.looks like the petition was taken seriously guys.
i spend all my money for good hardware to play this game, and then i should pay more than 100 bucks for that trackir??!!building it by myself is fun, much cheaper and it worked in arma1..i only can say FU
sigh... eclipse245. Anyhoot, I'm off to get a Wii Remote and stuff from Radio Shack. Good vid! I'm sure BIS will listen to its fanbase and free the game from the evil clutches of Natural Point.
Its a quetion of money, if you have money to buy trackIR congrats, but i havent, if you not change your idea you are sucker. (the true version of history)
To see how to make it just open the freetrack website and search for the handbook at the download area. There are a lot of tutorials on the internet, even here on youtube. It's very easy to build. Good luck.
It's not about me. I know TrackIR 5 is great, but it's expensive too. Some people doesn't have conditions to afford it. Should they be deprived to experiment the sensation to play using head tracking?
I especially love how BIS, in tying themselves to TrackIR as a sole solution, leave the user with a half-assed headtracking implementation. I want real 6DOF :( When flying, i like to keep the horizon level when banking.. I like to be able to put my head right up against the glass and look straight down... I can do it in FlightSim2004/X, but not in ArmA2... some innovation.
My video response shows true 6DoF in FlightSim2004 with helicopter flight. Notice how I can tilt my head left/right, and, in addition to just pointing my head in different directions, can actually MOVE my head around within the cockpit. If you want to look at a particular gauge in the cockpit, you can slide your head to the side or forward... literally moving closer to the gauge. Likewise you can put your head to the glass to see below your aircraft.
Nice to see that someone is trying to get freetrack supported in arma2 . I too made and used one for arma1 ,i signed the petition ,just hope BI do the right thing now.
You don´t have to buy any device. Buy if don´t wish to build your own, expending barely no money, and use with your webcam or wiiremote. See the freetrack website for more details.
you dont have the BUY any device. You download the freeware software from Freetrack site, and you BUILD you own device.
Basically, its simply a webcam (several brands work well, more info on the site) and a kind of clip with the LED lights that you assemble on your own (every item available on hardware stores).
totally agree Ferujosax, I also think arma2 should be open to any sensor device implementation that supports a udp or osc communication layer, how cool would that be.
So does FreeTrack work with Arrowhead?

How can you afford a comp that runs Arma 2 in high specs, but not be able to afford Track IR?
Plasticbladder 2 years ago
why would you spend 149$ on such a device, when you could be using your 40-90$ way more useful webcam ?

oh well, i just built my LED device and mounted to my headphones mainly for ARMA 2, but not i see there is no support! this is abit annoying.
yes, full 6DOF is in it it costs about $35-40 with parts from radioshack.
mine works great after i calibrated and modded all the settings, off to go play live for speed. /sigh

Neither ArmA nor ArmA2 support 6DoF.

Does it have 6DOF and isn't the majority of the cost the device, itself?
How much am I saving on software if I still have to buy the device?
IWannabeJew 2 years ago
You don´t have to buy any device. Buy if don´t wish to build your own, expending barely no money, and use with your webcam or wiiremote. See the freetrack website for more details.
The 6DOF depends on the game support.

I built my own device. It consists of a pinched PS2 Eyetoy and a few led's out of remote controls.
Total cost was £2 including the batteries ;)
