I recently bought a Panasonic Viera 50"inch TCP50C2 720p Plasma HDTV, but I am only receiving 480i aspect ratio for my cable and dvd movies, because 720p is for HD channels, and I don't have DIgital cable, only basic analog cable service from Time Warner. However, why do the dvd movies play, mention 480i when I p...ress Info on the remote. I was reading about how to get 720p aspect radio, eitehr through HDMI cable..................
hooked up to a HDMI socket on your cable box, which mine doesn't have, or get DIgital Cable with HD channels. There is alot of tiny fuzz particles when watching my tv, when you stand really close, but far away, it looks okay, but only 480i, and I was hoping I would get 720p.
1080p is top of the line for HD channels, and I have seen how sharp those are, amazing picture quality.
Maybe somebody can explain to me how I can get 720p picture quality, through HDMI cable like the manual says, or digital cable with FREE HD Channels, but I am sure most services charge extra fees for HD channels. But shouldn't my DVD movies be 720p, or would I get that with Blu-Ray movies?
@olga194 Samsung makes good 3D HDTVs (such as the 9000 series), but if your gonna get a HDTV that is 60+ inches and 3D, get the Panasonic Viera VT25. Its better than the 9000 series. And ironically, the 8000 series has more feature than the 9000, you can see the comparison chart on Samsung's website. The selling point for the 9000 series is its 0.3" screen, I mean sure thats awesome, but is that REALLY the only reason your buying that over the VT25?
@dtalamas24 Yes, but 360's are only able to produce up to 720p graphics. So viewing in 1080p is not the best setting for a 360 and will actually cause lagging due to the mismatch.
I dont see how it would have helped really, you cant judge the quality of the picture via the camera, via youtube and on a pc screen. Too many other factors involved.
plasmas are as good as anything else for gaming but if its for gaming only you should go for a lcd or the newer samsung led tvs as they have a better refresh rate
by the way the led tv has the best pic quality iv ever seen
HOLY COW! Way to lay the plasma on it's side. Bad idea. You just fucked up the chemicals. You may not notice but technically you just degraded the performance of the plasma. Nice TV though. I have the same.
Exactly. I am 'probably one but I'm not because I did not think that of 're-gassing' a plasma and therefore just leaving me with being right about not lying it down!
Sorry, I overreacted a bit cause it's a NICE TV. Don't worry about it. It mainly happens if you drive with it like that. It's just a high risk of shifting the chemicals around. Some boxes even tell you this. And technically, it's not really a "mess up" if that happened anyway because the chemicals would just need to be topped up. Sorry about that. It's a VIERA though!
Why are you changing subjects when my main point is that there is a risk of putting a plasma face down? I'm trying to be nice so that if you move your TV, you carry it up.
You had better tell Panasonic then as they say 'No risk of damaging a plasma screen through transporting it laying down' but not to 'operate the unit horizontally as the heat will not dissipate'.
Ok i have a 50 inch panasonic veirra plasma it is rated at 720p on the box but it can go to around 1080p apparently is that true? I also have been hesitant to play my 360 on it because of image retention/burn in should i be worried? My t.v has a game mode..is that ok to use for games?
I use my Panny with the PS3 and XBOX, never had any problems with burn-in. I think you would need to have the same static image on screen for days to notice it!
Panasonic is a excellent brand. I've pledged my allegiance to them, both my tv and home theater system are Panny. Even my car head unit is Panasonic. Nothing beats them for the price. I bought a Viera Plasma last year and haven't looked back, nothing compares.
Hey, can you comment on the glare-reducing technology on this tv? I'm seriously considering a 50 inch THPZ850u, but am worried about glare which many have noted a possible problem on plasma hdtv's.
Plasma kills LCD in terms of pretty much everything, I have my eye on the Samsung PN42A450....yet i'm worried about 2 things...the lower than 720p resolution, and burn in...
Yes, plasmas are amazing while watching movies and other tv shows. I don't think you have to warry to mutch about "burn in" as long as you don't connect your pc to it. Of course you can set a 1 minute screensaver which will most likely reduce the problem.
I'm not worried about burn in that much anymore or Image retention. There's other things like dithering and video noise that i'm worried about. I pretty much want a plasma for Wii,PS3,360 and Bluray/Dvds and i honestly don't want to settle for LCD. And the question is 1080p or 720p? ones native and the other is fixed
What really annoys me is that everysingle 42" Plasma isn't true HD, the resolution is a bit below 720p...I planned on picking up a 42" samsung or a panasonic, but since they're below 720p i'm not buying. It's frusturating, since LCDs have lower contrast ratios, lower color bits, slight motion blur and not to mention they cost more. All i wan't is a solid 720p 42" plasma...aghhh
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Hmm...LCDs are slightly cheaper, they have usually better colors and higher contrast...and the motion blur thing has disappeared years ago...I really don't know what you're talking about. Plasmas still have better blacks though.
i have the 50 inch PZ700U 1080p panasonic plasma. its the best tv out there right now. the picture quality is the best ive seen and the sound is very good hd sound. bestbuy sells it for $2,999 dollars. and sears sells it for $2,400 dollars. im very happy with my tv.
Cool! I just got a 58" PZ700U. But the UK versions are like the Japanese, way better! they have 3-HDMI inputs and headphone plug the only one in the U.S. with 3-HMDI (but no headphone plug) is the top tier PZ750 Series. I notice the remote is now all plastic, which means it's no longer made with metal face plate.
Panasonic makes the best electronics! no other brand is as good and reliable.
