  • Really great man, You listen to Patitucci much?

  • You sound amazing, my friend. I appreciate the musicality and not just some slap, tap, pop, pluck fest that has nothing to offer but random notes played at blazing speeds. You make your instrument sing.

  • 3:29, I Lol'd amazing dude.

  • that is a very good question my friend.

i think that if you sing what you play, it is a very good skill.

if you want to play what you sing, you can tray to sing with out your instrument,

and see if it feels the same.(ask yourself what is different now that i dont have my instrument)let me know:-)

  • How do play what you sing but not sing what you play? I make the mistake of singing what I play. It doesn't come from my head.

  • Toca muito você , parabéns...

  • Nice playing, nice bass, I have a BSR5EG

  • I 'm not criticizing ! I'm saying only the truth man...

that guy Ran seems to love the way hes playing , but inside of him , he knows I'm right..!

and he has to give up to try to play like Janek Gwizdala.! thats it ..! the way I'm saying it is rude but it makes getting better .

  • there is a guy on this page comments who maybe doesn't realize he is the only one to give bad critics

    very good job bassran

  • Jazz Natzi, GO play alone with a real book

  • hahaha, you have no shit, where jazz is about

  • you need to make a video and show us what you mean. how bout that

  • yes why not I could do that..!!

  • @Douglass92 Wow... I didn't know someone could possibly sound so full of themselves through a youtube comment. If you don't see this as an amazing solo I hope you can do better otherwise you be better off not saying anything. There are "pros" that can't improvise nearly as well as this guy. The point of improvisation is to work within given boundaries (chord structure) to make something beautiful. How that is done isn't important. It's not to simply show that you can play through changes.

  • @Douglass92 It's probably for the best that your last comment was removed. You criticism is hardly constructive. You say you can do better and that I probably know you then you say you can't post your name? I don't care who you are, I would honestly love to see a solo from you that's "better" than this. I'm surprised that that you can so readily used a term like that in an area such as improvised soloing. A solo isn't better simply because someone knows how to move around changes.

  • @Thatguy301

"A solo isn't better simply because someone knows how to move around changes"

dude you know what? those words from you , just show me that you totally don't know what you're talkin about..(and obviously when I see you play I understand..)

every chord as a precis scale , and if you don't respect that scale you fuck up the beauty of that chord wich is so special BECAUSE OF that special SCALE that fit to it, wich means that you don't care about MUSIC...

  • @Douglass92 Firstly, I haven't solo'd in any of my videos (because I suck at it) but leave the personal attacks for uneducated folks, you sound smarter than that. Anyway, that sounds like a very roundabout about way of "fucking up a song." Am I to understand that just because it sounds good doesn't mean its good? Does music all of a sudden have to live up to a technical standard now just because it uses multiple keys?

  • @Douglass92 You can play in the central Key

    and that's what he's doing.

    He's also doing substitutions.

You obviously don't know anything thank you.

  • @myusernameissocool

??? loool ,none of any great musicien play on the centrel key my friend...beginners maybe..

then you understand that playing the modes is the real deal. every single chord of that song as its own nature, if you wanna skip that it means that

YOU don't understand anything . thank YOU .

  • @Douglass92 No you didn't understand

Just because you don't hear him arpeggiate every chord doesn't mean he's not playing through the changes.

Sometimes he ignores the chord change and stays in central key.

Other times he's doing substitutions of chords.

And other times he's making "melody" Remember that? It's not all about soloing over changes with the coolest mode and tensions.

Obviously you thinking this guy isn't good, makes you completely ignorant.

    Thank you sir.

  • @myusernameissocool

"central key"...............???? why Chick Corea afford playing over every fuckin modes of this song and being super melodic at the same time....? why Chick Corea , herbie Hancock , Patitucci , Garrison never skip changes?? how the fuck can you "IGNORE" the changes......?? forget about music dude..for real ..you're one of those fuckin ignorant that think only "intentions" matters....and what about "Knowledge et musicality" at the same time ? wake the fuck up cuz...!!! damn.

  • @Douglass92 oh my god you're actually hilarious to see type.

If you don't think this guy has knowledge and musicality, you're the ignorant one.

So what if he goes off a bit at one point. He's expressive. You can go play 1,3,5,7 of each chord change with different inversions.<- Sometimes

have fun with your music, I wouldn't.

  • @myusernameissocool

    lol, that's right, I shouldn't be mad at you...lol

you unfortunetely have no taste and no clue...keep thinkin you're right. but anyway , take a listen to chick , sylvain luc or bireli lagrene playing that..hopefully you will understand what I m talkin about..

  • @Thatguy301

and don't mistake, it's not at all only about" intention" and "spirit", but its about KNOWLEDGE, and combining those 3 makes great musicians.

do you think Chick Corea would say what you say..? Im NOT sure...

but I think you just simply CAN'T hear what I mean, wich is another problem.

  • @Douglass92 Well then we will never agree. Knowledge is FAR from the most important thing in music. People were making music long before music notation and theory were even thought about. There are plenty of musicians that sound amazing and couldn't tell you what scale they're using. I don't think any professional player beside maybe Jeff Berlin would agree with you. Knowing music is good but feeling it is something much more necessary to it production. Bassran at the VERY least has the feel.

  • @Thatguy301

lol...Berlin is a friend of mine obviously, this not suprise you I guess uh? lol

fortunetely , a lot of great players aside from Jeff agree with me ..and I agree with them ..man , seriously..make sens to what you're saying...we're no more in the anthiquity era..loool , a LOOOOOT of things had been discovered since then you know? "Knowledge is FAR from the most important thing in music"......dude , knowledge is a tool , how you wanna built a house without knowing the basics ?

  • @Douglass92 People have been building houses for a long time and for a long time people didn't know the engineering concepts behind building houses but they did it anyway. Of course, people learned more bout house building they could build them better but without that extra knowledge does that mean that they can't build a house? It may sound circular but the most important thing in music is simply the ability to create it. Knowledge is important, but secondary. We won't agree so I'll leave it.

  • @Douglass92

because he s better than you...so you can't get what I m sayin...and why the fuck am I talkin and talkin to you...I don't even know myself ..looool

  • @Thatguy301

with intentention and feel and "spirit" (oh jesUuUUUs) only.....??? lol

stop dude , your house will stay week then will break and fall because it miss the foundations....

same for art...you can fake a long time ..but there's always one day coming where you reach the limit where you can't..

anyway , that's not the point, when you love music,if you're gifted and you already have "the feel" as U say, you study HARMONY .period. but I m telling you , I think you can't hear his mistakes

  • @Thatguy301

and again when you absorbe a lot of knowledge you just can't play ONE scale on something like spain..

go check bireli Lagrene and Sylvain Luc on spain....then ask questions...lol

I think your definition of "amazing" ain't mine..definitely!!

  • @Douglass92 but its always ppl who dont have videos up tlkn crap about good players...

  • Comment removed

  • Excellent!!!!

  • nice solo, timing isnt quite right, great work though! you have a nice feeling for the music...

  • HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHA that was soooooo funny!!!! but nice solo!!

  • + Great Solo (don't like the singing)

    + Nice Tone

    + Good phrasing

    - Timing sucks

  • well i dont think you can just say timing sucks. the looped bass groove might be getting faster, but during the solo theres an awesome feeling and rhythmical understanding. i think he is consciously playing out of time but gets back into the groove any time he wants to!

  • i really don't get the feeling that he is selling the singing. For a lot of players, singing along with what they are playing comes naturally. I wish I had that much of a tonal...ummm... awareness!

his timing is a little off...but even the best of us needs a metronome. It is definitely something that a lot of (non-drumming) musicians neglect in practice. I often run my scales intent upon developing muscle memory and hand dexterity. Timing is sadly an afterthought.

  • I think the timing here is adlib and this guy can perfectly keep it. This "free" timing playing gives more personality to the song. If playing with a band would be a mess but here... they guy does a great job.

  • using a metronome is for classical music, if you think that jazz can be played to a metronome i dont know what to tell you

  • metronome is for practicing technique and anything mechanical... to really play music of any genre time needs too ebb and flow a little bit...

  • Jazz is heavily dependent on timing. What is not is chant music, there is no tempo.

A metronome is important to almost any genre of music.

  • cut it rite there

  • YOU SUCK AT BEING BAD. : p

  • That almost caught me off guard.

  • very good job

    very musical

  • very cool man, i was thinking before your solo that you should sing it also....well you did haha. You're a killer player.

  • wow!! That´s amazing. I want more...

  • yo Ran......ive been waiting for some-1 not to want to sound like everybody else. you have a unique way of allowing yaself to be free. the bass is a instrament of freedom, no dout.

  • You was great let me tell you that time and touch in straight line will be givn you digi size... very funy

  • Man let me tell you your are fucking beast excuse my language. I have a lot of musicians around me doing photography. Wow!!! That was a treat brotha!! I leave in philly of course you a lot of greats come philly playing bass Stanley,Gerald, just to name a couple. Send that to ever bass company you can google. GOOD LUCK HOMIE!!!!!

  • thank you...

  • Nice

  • Great work. You made me proud to be a six string bass playa. What's up with the chipmunk thing with teeth, though?

  • Great Job man you were smackin!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing. absolutely amazing.

  • Very good man. I truly enjoyed this.

  • man! cool!

  • Awesome play

  • i'll study. sorry. :)

  • NICE. :D I really like using voice to sing the melody while playing it on the bass. There's a brazilian bass player called Arthur Maia, who use this in a wonderfull way.

Congratulations, I'll to be greater than you. Lol :D

  • Nice job Bassran. Considering the history of electric vs acoustic basses that started in the '50s and especially the '60s, it's interesting to see that the former bastard instrument has traditions of it's own. 4 or 6 strings? We've come a long way.

  • Oh, and Bassran, I think you sound great. Very George Benson-esque.

  • buena compadre

  • ok +5

  • I don't want to be a hater but could some one please explain to me why people want to play guitar on bass? I play myself and I think its a lot more impressive to have a lot of skill with only four strings. 5 strings is about as far as I enjoy and thats only to get a low b. It seems like it would be impressive to slap on a million strings and let rip but I've seen it a lot and no one has ever really grabbed my attention. try doing that with only 4 strings and then play spain.

  • No. Extended range basses are just that: They have an EXTENDED range. You usually can't play six string songs on a four string bass. Why limit yourself with four strings if you want to play the higher/lower notes of an extended range bass.
