You shouldn't give you're opinions on topics which you know nothing at all about - you're a prime target for abuse. Stopped listening after your spouting on the "similarites" between (1200 year old nation) scotland and quebec (the remains of european imperial colony) and that scotland's 5 million is split between there and england. What on earth have you been reading or watching or listening to in order for you to come to these conclusions? seriously?
We have 6 million in Scotland and you don't need a huge population to become a successful country. Ireland, Norway are two examples of relatevly small populated countries but have a high standard of living.
As for supporting ourselves. We have the north sea oil with has something like £850 billion worth left. Along with plenty of farmland and other other ways of making money too.
Interesting video. I am half Scots/half English and I have spent the majority of my life Un Edinburgh, Scotland. There are already huge differences in Education, for example fees for University are paid for you if you are 'Scottish citizen' the standard of the education is also second to none. The cost of NHS services such as drug prescriptions are also much cheaper in Scotland compared to England. Do I think total independance would be beneficial? Yes and No. Depends on finacial implications
Am from Dundee Scotland, I vote to leave the UK, btw there are 5milliom Scots in Scotland lol. We could go alone, look at our neighbours, Ireland, Norway and Finland all same population and sucessful nations, Once we have our indpendence england can stop robbing us from our North sea oil!! Snp looks after Scotland and have our local interests at heart, I will be voting YES for bye bye UK :D
Holy hell. What is your problem? Did I do anything to you. Did I say I was an expert? No. Did I say that I was basically quoting yahoo? Yes. Is that a reputable source? No. Am I writing my doctoral thesis, nay, even a editorial about Scotland. No.

2. the scot parl's powers are devolved by act of parl and can be taken back instantly the same way. 3. Westminster is sovreign its laws can't be contradicted and a (unlawful) law from scotland can't break the act of union which was a parliamentary bill
Anyway i just checked and it is legally impossible for scotland to split without an act from westminster. 1 in the law setting up the scottish parliament there are "reserved matters" things only westminster can do this includes constitutional matters.
She is scotish cus she has a little brouch with a thistle on it...lol..England and Scotland will remain United,we are to strong together. The Independant pary got more votes more as a message to Blair rather than a desire to separate,Hell if Austrila voted to remain with the common wealth,it cant be to bad.
Military benefits? 5 million people how many are in the military? What about its location is that an advantage? only if we want to invade norway etc can't c that happening.
Another examples is 5 millions cots, 2.5 million live in England. Those that live in england obviously wouldn't want a split so that's 50% so no majority could exist 4 spliting. And what are the chances of most of the scots in scotland wanting 2 leave?
Yes the UK parliament is allowed 2 say that the scots can't split. The UK parliament is SOVREIGN. The Scotish 1 is not a proper one all its limited powers are DEVOLVED by act of parliament and can b taken back the same way. The scotish 'parliament' has set powers that don't include leaving
The celts ruled a lot of europe at 1 point. the countries where england is now were celtic till we got invaded a few times. The sxons actually practice apatheid (sp?) and genocide on the natives when they came so its not our fault we're not as celtic soundin as the scots think they are
u ask if scotland can support itself, i don't know but 1 arguement is that they would have north sea oil revenues WRONG the oil is owned by BIG companies not the UK so if scotland split the scots still wouldn't own the oil
( yes I know we did "invade"by modern standards in about the 13th century but we left and then lived peacefully for hundreds of years)The reality if I remember right is that the 18th century union was the result of:
1) The same (scotish i think) man became the heir to BOTH thrones and then king. The countries remained separate.
2. later they were merged by a treaty that was written, signed and ratified by both the english parliament and the scotish one.
Um, I am a history major...so I don't really appreciate that. You want the honest truth. I saw it on Yahoo News, or a link on some unreliable site and took an interest in it. I know NOTHING about it.
I'm a Scot currently residing in Scotland. On the issue of "would Scotland be able to survive finincially" the answer would be a resounding "Yes"
Many sources have claimed that there could be as many as 38.7 billion barrels of oil still remaining in the North Sea - worth £391bn at current prices.
North Sea revenues in 2006/7 will be 11.7 billion and England gives us 11 billion, so whichever way you look at it, Scotland is losing out.
I'm not having a go at you but some of the things you say are innacurate. Scotland has roughly 5 million people resident within her borders. A lot of Scottish people have went to England and indeed all over the world but the actual population at any one time is around 5 million, not 2.5 million as you stated. Look at other small nations like Ireland or Norway or Sweden. Are they too small to govern themselves?
No, I don't think that they are, after thinking about this for a while...Canada has a huge land mass and a pretty small population in comparison to how much land we have....so I don't think that they would have trouble governing themselves.
now if the SNP get 51 seats then there will be a referendum for independance then we get our own country and our say in the EU (i hope we ditch it) and the unionists keep saying we'll lose our influence WE DON'T HAVE ANY SAY
I am from scotland and i do want scotland to become independant. i feel that when people think of the uk they think england which is really annoying. i think most scottish people would NEVER say there british and always say scottish. i think the UK is just bringing war and violence and tony blair only wants scotland to stay because its to much hassle for us to leave
Where in Canada do you live? Nova Scotia maybe. :-) Well, it's kind of ironic that you talk about Scottish independence wearing a t-shirt that says "Hola Barcelona" printed on the Spanish flag. Scotland & Catalonia are nations without states of their own. So it's great that you like Barcelona, only you should avoid the official flag of the Royal House of Bourbon, opressors of the Catalan people.
Why would you worry about how Scots support themselves when they expressed their desire to be free from England? There is no conglomerate of the UK only Tyranny of English rule on other countries.
After watching some of this, I feel I need to point out some things. Scotland's population is just over 5million, there are people in England who have moved from Scotland to England, so it is 5 million plus- Also Ireland has a population of 3.5 million yet they are 'independent', Norway, Sweden, Denmark all have populations the same as Scotland.
The SNP is social democratic party which has a broad church of opinion but are united by our belief in an independent Scotland.
Scotland should not be allowed to become independent under any circumstances.I have no doubt Scotland could survivie as a country on its own however this hostile attitude Scots now have towards the English is totally unjustified, we are not ripping you off and by the way you are British citizens and the oil revenue goes to the British treasury which then gets spent across the whole of the UK and indeed subsidises Scotland. All Brits should be united under one government.
Interesting to note that you will ignore the wishes of the people of Scotland if they decide to be independent within the European Union. Another reason for us to be free!
Its all down there in the UN, national self determination is a right we uphold for countries all over the world, why not Scotland. As for size the most successfull countries in the world aresmaller than scotland, so are most EU countries.
Its great that your taking such an interest. I'm a member of the Scottish National Party and we are not a far left party - we are a left of centre social democratic party. You comment that you're not sure whether we can support ourselves - well we are surrounded by rich nations that have similar populations and industries (Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland) and don't forget that we still have oil in the North Sea and loads more out in the Atlantic.
It is part of the United Kingdom, however...England thinks that it is a part of itself...and I think that is horrible...It was a mutual agreement for Scotland and England to unite in 1707....and if they want to un-unite...then I think they should be able to
Well, in 1707 nobody had the chance to decide. In 2007, possibly Scotland will have the chance to decide for itself. Scotland recently got a Scottish Parliament, if the politicans can be trusted with education, health service.. why can't they decide on international affairs. Also, the SNP want rid of Nuclear weapons on the River Clyde... I want Scotland to contribute to peace not illegal wars and spending billions on Nuclear weapons. If you have a question, I'll keep you informed :)
it's always good to ask questions!Hopefully, I can hel. I am SNP member and I am very proud of my english relatives. I also know many English people who are members and people from all over Europe work in our offices. The SNP are a left of centre and are 'civic nationalists'. It's up to the people to decide for themselves.
Thank you Canada, the 5,000,000 thing, half of us have not left but i am sure there are atleast 2,500,000 living in England(waiting to rise up!lol)We have Oil Coal Fish land sea and sky and plenty of bright Scots with heaps of talent, so come over and help out the tourist trade, you would be made very welcome. Rule the Scots!!!!
Thank you for this interesting video. Scotland already has its own parliament but, in my opinion, they are not doing their best for the country and are a bit of a joke. However we do have a little more say in how Scotland is run. My MP is SNP and does a good job but I don't think there's enough support to win an election
Thanks for watching! I don't really know that much about Scotland, and probably should have researched a bit more before I did my video. But I know the referendum is in like 104 days....so I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out :)
There is no referendum, we are having elections for the devolved Scottish Parliament. The SNP is standing on a platform of, if elected, they will hold a referendum on whether Scotland should become an equal nation in the world or not.

It's awesome that you've taken such an interest in this.
I just have to point out that the SNP aren't that far left at all really. I'm Scottish Socialist Youth and so I know what I'm talking about there lol.
Btw, when did you leave Scotland?
Your accent is gone. =P

Look Scotland isnt a part of England for fuck sake
colin164 5 years ago
It is part of the United Kingdom, however...England thinks that it is a part of itself...and I think that is horrible...It was a mutual agreement for Scotland and England to unite in 1707....and if they want to un-unite...then I think they should be able to
sopharsogood 5 years ago

Thank you for this interesting video. Scotland already has its own parliament but, in my opinion, they are not doing their best for the country and are a bit of a joke. However we do have a little more say in how Scotland is run. My MP is SNP and does a good job but I don't think there's enough support to win an election
beteigh 5 years ago
Thanks for watching! I don't really know that much about Scotland, and probably should have researched a bit more before I did my video. But I know the referendum is in like 104 days....so I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out :)
sopharsogood 5 years ago
There is no referendum, we are having elections for the devolved Scottish Parliament. The SNP is standing on a platform of, if elected, they will hold a referendum on whether Scotland should become an equal nation in the world or not.
