@gunny556fly lol....I live in a small town of about 1000 give or take a few...Back probally 5 years or so they would park a cop car on the main road that goes through and they would put a dummy cop in it..He never wrote out tickets but he worked real cheap.

@gunny556fly Over the course of the series, Mayberry grew from about 1200 to (in the Mayberry RFD days) about 2000. Given that and the kind of town it is, I think Andy and Barney could handle it just fine (with the occasional deputizing of Gomer, Goober, Otis, Floyd, and a few others).
