@jetsonic69 why always comes a person with this commentaries about religion this, politics this...why just leave us and just let us enjoy the song? some of us just like to hear the song just because its awesome, not because it has some meaning everyone just invents
Great song, these guys are such poets of our time. There are so many times in my life, when it would be so much easier to be, "In Hiding". Thanks Pearl Jam.
This song always makes me want to go outside and just run...sprint...full tilt...on a rainy day...then crash with the rain pelting me as I gasp for air
eddie once explained the song, Stone had written the music and every rehearsal after that he would ask Ed if he had gotten any lyrics for it yet , Ed was struggling to come up with anything so he went off for a few days at some place in the middle of nowhere and shut himself off from the world until he came up with lyrics
It's all state of (my) mind....no way in or out... nothings sound....soon i was seeing visions and cracks along the walls...I'm in hiding... from my sanity. lol
i thinks its about someone just shutting them self in to get away from their life for a while. At first it was tough but then after a while i guess the person liked being alone better.
I guess this song sounds like the highest equilibrium in the PJ's creation. At No Code, the band started to leave the "grunge's scar". On Yield, they got it.
This may sound dumb, but this album cover reminds me of Rush's Snakes and Arrows Live cover.
Also, Which Pearl Jam album should I get? I have ten and was told (by my stepdad) that there isn't really any good pearl jam after ten, what is an album to prove him wrong? If this is any contributor, I LOVE the song Yellow Ledbetter.
PJ's a great band for sure. I wouldn't say No Code is there greatest tho. Its a great awesome album. I'd like to think all of their albums are a master piece.
Theres something really unique and spiritual about this song......Its like early Pearl Jam songs had real social substance to the lyrics about life, death, misery, stress, drugs, depression, politics , religion and the world .
In hiding has got to be one of the best songs about how tough life is, and sometimes you just have to let go and find a better way out
One of Pearl Jam's most underrated tracks off arguably their most underrated album. Pearl Jam is a consistently growing influence; I have their albums "Ten", "Vs." and "Vitalogy". I'm positive I'm going to get "Yield" next.
I had to log in for this. The way he just casually cruises through the song and then just HITS it with his trademark barritone makes this the absolute favorite Pearm Jam song for me.

Well it offers a pretty good description of many of my experiences on acid: "Soon I was seeing visions and cracks along the wall" along with other lines!
I don't bother with acid these days; too many bad trips.
That's how I see it as well. "They Say" there's a backstory to it, but what the hell: personal interpretations are better for us. Gives us a voice we might not otherwise have.
@thedaemonforever you and me both... there are times I don't want to know about anyone or anything... other than lose myself in music and enjoy my bulldogs. :)
I think it is impossible not to project, at least a little....b/c you can never truly know what another person is thinking so your mind naturally invents or inserts a bit of the only reality you know...your own.
not just the best album by pearl jam, one of the best albums ever

You know how you know an artists work was a bad one? The next one doesn't sell. It's a shame too, Binaural was better in almost every respect.
This song was good with the exception of the lyrics and Eddie singing like he was cracked out the whole time.
