Wow, good thing he didn't do another one. We might've seen how well his finger held up to a wood jigsaw blade. A vice and eye protection should be a minimum. Maybe the part where the ring flew out of the pliers and hit him in the face was cut out...
Tungsten carbide is harder than steel...only substances such as diamond or corundum can scratch them. Look up more videos on tungsten carbide if you don't believe that a steel blade can't scratch it. He didn't switch the ring.
The comparisons here are flawed and not just because of the weaknesses of the testing. First off it is a test that is specifically designed FOR Tungsten thus it's going to focus on areas it WILL perform better in. Secondly there are issues with hard heavy rings like Tungsten, like how the heck to cut it off in an emergency? As you can see it doesn't cut at all and the added Carbon reduces it's weakness substantially, Some titanium rings are made so that they can be cut off for this reason.
@detroitdieselpower69 Vice Grips, and you are telling me that the pressure a vice grip like that would need, wouldn't then go on to crush the finger? Or worse yet, cause it to shatter.
@marek0086 so you are telling me you are willing to take a Tungsten Carbide, put it on your finger and then attempt to break it off with a vice grip? Because that's a heck of a strong yet brittle substance. There is a fundamental difference between breaking the ring, and breaking it while it is on your own finger.
also let's remember, as this case is not just general removal, it is also if you were in an emergency, which may cause issues using such a tool to begin with. With other rings, because they can be cut safely AND predictably, that makes a massive fundamental difference in terms of safety.
@marek0086 oh well, again, I still think with the kind of vice you need, it's emergency application is still a major issue. If your hand becomes trapped, in a gap you could get a blade down, it'd be a much harder process with a vice of any sort. Personally I still don't trust it, breaking anything around your own body doesn't sound like a wise thing to do.
@marek0086 I have seen a video of it being broken, not on a finger. But again, can you say that this method is going to be usable in emergency situations, which is essentially where I have been on about for the past... oh I don't know... all the posts. The Vice has to be bigger then the ring. Personally I am just saying, as a personal preference, I just don't like the idea of breaking things around me.
I cannot believe what I just witnessed in this video. How unsafe the entire thing was. Bouncing those rings on the blade with your hand inches from the blade. NO vise. NO safety eye wear. What an idiot. If you would have held those rings in a vice you would have cut thru them, not just scratched them. Probably not the titanium but all the gold would have cut thru. If you like your fingers. Stop doing such stupid things.
This is so dumb what is he trying to prove? What a retarded company
"hey bob I've got a great idea that will help us sell these shitty tungsten rings we bought!! All we need is a jigsaw, a camcorder Some gold and platinum rings.......Morons
The idea of using soft metals in a wedding band is so the band won't take your finger if it gets caught while doing work around heavy machinery, woodwork, getting in a car accident etc.
@yukhui wrong dude. Dont wear any and you will be safe. Any and all rings will sheath the finger to the bone. Many manufacturing plants know this and is why you cant where jewelry while at work.
@bullbaloney I agree with you, its safer not to wear jewelry. What I meant was when something goes wrong and your wearing a wedding band your chances of saving your finger are better with a soft metal ring in comparison to the harder variety. Looking back at my last comment more, I dont mean to say its a guarantee that it'll save your finger.
Dude... exercise some safety, geez! Also, use an HD camera and upload in 1040p so we can see more clearly the damage done. If you're gonna destroy so much money worth of rings, you should really do it right so it's at least worth your time and money.
Well, the performance of the metal against power tools is impressive, but the premise is pointless. There are many pieces of jewelery that survive for many generations, and are not made of tungsten. If anything, tungsten rings are more of a hazard than a boon because they would be difficult to cut off in an emergency. I've just noticed my own wedding band and note that the originally brushed metal surface has become polished over the years. Jewelery is art. Get it because you like it.
Liar! no rings were cut in half and if this was professional I would not want a ring from them. I believe this guy should have lost at least 3 fingers for taking those 6:56 min of my life that i will never get back.
Great the ring is durable I get it you fuckers get a life why am I even watchint this shit. Why am i taking time to comment. FYI the ring will shatter if it is struck with enough force an another hard surface like steel
I am willing to bet that that titanium ring is 6al-4v. That is what most Ti rings are made from. If it would have been held still in a vice, and the blade was moving at a slower rpm, it would have went right through. Not only do I make titanium rings, but I work at a titanium plant that makes titanium so I wouldn't know. But ya, Titanium is very hard. any questions about it, ask.
We can clearly see this clever individual sits behind a desk and pushes pencils for a living. Couldve at least used a table vice. I would have gave this vid 5 stars if the blade slid off and jammed strait into his hand! But since he is soo damn ignorant it gets a 1.
This video doesn't show a correct image on the strength of the ring! The blade in the jigsaw probably lost alot of its cutting area from trying to cut through the first 4 rings!
He also isnt holding the tungsten ring as hard against the jigsaw as he does with the other rings since his hand isn't even moving (which should happen since it absorbs the kinetic energy from the jigsaw) when he pushes the tungsten ring.
at least use something sturdy to hold the rings and new blades on every ring!
so what your telling us is that if you get your finger caught you cant cut this ring off so you lose your finger!! wow thats a really good selling feature
In the very unlikely case that your finger is caught and you can't pull finger out of the the very rigid tungsten ring, you can crack the ring with a standard vice grip locking pliers. Search for the video on how to do it.
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, makes rings out of pure tungsten. Pure tungsten is denser than mercury, making it extremely heavy to wear, and it's very ductile - you can stretch it with your hands. The ring here is probably tungsten carbide, which is quite durable, yes, but also pretty damned cheap. This video does demonstrate the tenacity of tungsten carbide well enough but it's a straw man's argument; if your loved one is pressing her finger to a jigsaw, then jewelry is the least of your problems.
