When I was very little, we used to go to a little town that had a fiveand dime store. They had a sign that said Fallout Shelter. I didn't know what it meant. They took the sign down in around 1970.

we have intercept missles that go as fast as mach 3 (almost the speed of light)

Check your math. Mach 3 isn't anywhere close to the speed of light.
Speed of light= 671 million MPH
Even Mach 10 is only about 7,680 MPH.
Our bogey-wreckers are pretty fast though. But when it comes to nuclear weapons, no one is safe.
