Ur first point, i agreed almost exactly. Former communists help each other and China was at a really slow start in technology. Without Russian support, China is crap. Ur second point, maybe. Ur talking about Su-27, the original. What about Su-33 to -35BM? They have newer technologies such as thrust vectoring and better electronics. Also the export variant of the Su-27 is a bit different.

the SU33 is very doubtful that plane is 20 year old technology and is getting replaced with the MIG29K anyway.

i dont know what variant of the SU27, last year the US airforce bouth 2 of them from Ukraine to use them for aggressor training.

Israel & Taiwan are two different story behind. Israel with enormous resource from US,Taiwan with nothings. US blocked Israel sales to China highly sophiscated air-combact-radar & AWAC radar; of which,not US version can compete with. BUT, even blocked,proto-type delivered to China already & China can develop in long run by themself. Taiwan now, with NO any defense strategy at all, IF Tthis pro-China presidency going to FREE EVERY THINGS with China. Frankly, no need defense bueget,why bother.

Actually, Israel doesn't have it easy either. Yes, it does enjoy considerable support from the US, but other than that, even other NATO/EU allies keep Israel at arms length to avoid pissing off oil-rich Arab nations. During the Cold War, Taiwan, Israel, & South Africa were the three internal orphans that often comiserated with each other. Taiwan developed its HF-1 AShM with Israeli assistance, & may have had a joint nuclear program.

Indigenous development is the only way. The US needs money from China so it won't sell new weapons. Even with the larger costs(nobody will sell anyway), such indigenous development will enable Taiwan to establish an internationally competitive,key technology based industry infrastructure. Israel is a case in which defence related technology developments have led to international competitiveness in focused technology areas.

This was a joint project between USA and Taiwan, as Sales of military aircraft by the US was banned by PRC.

This new version has more powerful engines and improved avionics. The maker hopes the Taiwan airforce will buy them, but as yet no sales . US permission is needed for sales outside of Taiwan for this aircraft because it uses American engines , weapons systems.

It is a good video but it needs to be translated. I would also want to know how much it costs. F-CK-1 seems to be a decent aircraft, that is cheaper than others (less then 20mil. USD), and many countries might want to buy it.

Taiwan HAS the technological capabilities to build indigenous weapons(including some sort of(that is ,not exactly like the mainstream) Aegis ships,tanks and subs). The problem is that the will of the leaders is not strong enough. Now the US doesn't want to sell weapons to Taiwan, mostly because of the US leaders' business interests with the CCP. If this continues, even the existing imported weapons might become unuseable in a few years.

12 years and the upgrade is still waiting for approval. Last I heard was that about half of the aircraft will be upgraded if the US keeps stalling on the F-16/52 request. Problem is that the AirForce isn't interested in the upgrade, they want new aircraft, while the company proposing the upgrade, which built the original model, needs the work to stave off bankruptcy.
