This song was inspired by a true story. A man named Edward Leedskalnin was dumped by his fiancée Agnes Scuffs the day before they were to be married. He built Coral Castle, a monument complete with furniture made of coral, in Homestead, Florida hoping to win her back, but she still did not want to marry him. His nickname for her was Sweet Sixteen.

@metalreign1 That's a great way to describe this. It's a timeless song, with some restrained production... which was somewhat of a rarity back in the 1980s. For all of Idol's louder, more flashy and popular songs, I find this one to be my all-time favorite of his. I can't recall him performing any other song that sounds or feels quite like it. It burns in an unassuming way and etches itself in my memory.

This dude he is singing about, Edward Leedskalnin. A latvian who was engaged to a 16 yr old girl, Agnes. On the day before the wedding she bailed out. He spent the next 28 years making this beautiful garden of stone figures. Including a rocking chairs shaped like crescent moons. How he moved them is a mystery, he said he "figured out the mystery of the pyramids". I guess the tie between the two was there I just never figured out what the song meant until today. Never looked it up before.

I saw him live in Saint Louis, a 1 man show .... in 2008, singing this song on stage with acoustic guitar. I left for Russia-Ukraine-Moldova/Romania­-China & back to Russia & Returned to the U.S. a couple of days ago.. This song, being here was like a faithful femme fatal waiting on the balcony. He is a legend during his lifetime, an icon. I was/am honoured to have seen him.

It's actually a reference to rock gate that was made by Edward Leedskalnin which was made or quarried oolite or oolitic limestone. And that limestone was formed by fossilized coral and other sea life. Just like the sea bed that the pyramids and sphinx were quarried and built on.
