  • anyone know where i can find the soundtrack?

  • Why is this in german!!?

  • @dima9944 The reason for this is because the French were still affraid that Germany would start another world war. This thought was still the case in the beginning of the nineteen sixties. In this film, the Germans once again are victorious over the French, that is the reason, I think, this artist used the German language for the doctors...

  • I learnt French for a few years in school, so pick up a bit of what's going on. I wish I'd pursued it more, if only to enjoy this in the way it was intended.

    Fantastic, nonetheless.

  • 12 monkeys is an amazing movie. Real thought provoking stuff :D

  • @WhatIsThisRedThing

That's good and I appreciate the info but this isn't 12 Monkeys, this is La Jetée, although it inspired 12 Monkeys it is not the same exact thing, please comment on this video and not on 12 Monkeys.

  • it's interisting how the WW2 experience, I guess, is used to evoke fright as the victors speek German while otherwise the movie is in French....

  • one of the best film shorts ...ever...not hollywood...but French! long live Continental Culture...

  • I really enjoyed this film, very unique, I'm just wondering, are there other films like this done entirely with still photography? If so, any recommendations?

  • @Cellophaneproduction

"koyaanisqatsi" - Brilliant score to this film. Made up entirely of subtle live action shots. Stunning to look at and very sinister.

"The Hypothesis of the Stolen Painting" - some live action but certainly a film that explores the use of the still image.

I probably know some more but off the top of my head I would reccomment these. Enjoy.

  • @airdike

    That's by

    Phillip Glass

    isn't it?

  • @Cellophaneproduction Maybe you would interested in Bela Tarr's movies.

  • Simply breathtaking cinema. Words cannot describe the power + beauty of this haunting masterpiece.

  • this is 12 monkeys..... correction, 12 monkeys is this...**

  • what is the name of the song pleasee

  • "lhomme dont nous racontons l'histoire"

    Il ressemble à François Fillon

  • i am haveing problem finding the begining song to download on net ... someone help please

  • The music in the beginning is indeed Russian, it is a liturgical chant, called "We bow down before your cross" (or Кресту Твоему in Russian), composed by Piotr Gontcharov. In La Jetée it is sung by the St-Alexandre Nevsky choir. You can find some videos on youtube (search We bow down before your cross) but in my opinion they are not as powerful as this version.

  • I just re-saw "Twelve Monkeys "after I saw "La jetée" for the first time... I'm fuckin shocked... It doesn't have half the strenght of Chris Marker's movie even though Brad Pitt is excellent in it... It's a great experience to realise that. The pure and simple genius shit VS The complex and boring crap.

  • Does anyone know Where One Can Find the Music Score? It has haunted me for years. Thanks!

  • @palatinesouth idk but if you want a piece that sounds slightly similar try Mozart's Requiem

  • @palatinesouth I am looking too--let me know if you find it!

  • this is my all time favorite short film.

  • anyone know the russian sounding piece at the beginning?

  • @kerumble I dont think its russian, just because of the year that it was made. Do correct me if I am wrong.

  • @kerumble In the Intro it says "music de Trevor Duncan" meaning the music of Trevor Duncan. Hope I was some help!

  • '12 Monkeys' was so tragic and moving in so many ways, a few years ago I tracked down 'La Jetee', and its even more so than 12 Monkeys. Even the music. Its not hard to obsess about this movie/concept.

  • ca s'appelle un chef d'oeuvre cinematographique.. c'est clair que c'est pas aussi facile a comprendre que spiderman ou autre navet hollywoodien.. " tu piges pas, regarde pas.."

It's a cinematoraphic master piece.. not a bad piece of crap from hollywood... you don't get it, don't watch it and get back to spiderman kind of shit....

  • it's grateful, like 12 monkeys!

  • c'est laite !

  • laitE????

  • 12 Monkeys!

  • Awesome - thanks for putting this up. Just discovered this film and it is fabulous.

  • masoo, english text is on the right on this page, dammit.

  • 1962, not 1963.

  • this film is actually from 1962

  • zen :)

  • my favorite

  • damn, i don't speak fance either :(

  • You've got such a Dwarvish name is fuckin awesome.

  • ¡Se agradece!

  • Could someone PLEASE upload the Chris Marker film, "Letter from Siberia"...?

    I'm dying to see it.

  • Did this rip off 12 monkeys?

  • no 12 monkeys was based on this, this is made in 1962

  • Yes it did, that's why the credits at the very beginning of 12 Monkeys say "based on the film La Jetee"

  • Terminator this was inspiration for 12 monkeys

  • no la jetee was the inspiration,it's a remake.

  • just perfect!

  • Criterion released a DVD of this film (along with another film by the same director) last year.

  • Amazing. Marker, fellini, gilliam, aronofsky, glazer, gondry, fincher, polanski, paul thomas anderson, ferrara, wells, adrian lyne, david lynch, hitchcock.. Real fim artist´s.

  • so brilliant and moving...

    a real masterpiece

    thanks for posting

    ;)

    m

  • 12 monkeys... i think was the closest remake of La Jetee....

  • There's an interesting article on Chris Marker's still photography over the last fifty years in the latest edition of UK film magazine Vertigo. Vertigo regularly features Marker and similar filmmakers. The Vertigo website has details and free articles.

  • This is genius at its finest. I am more than happy to find the French version.

  • Criterion is releasing this film with Sans Soleil at the end of June 2007.

  • thank you very much. Marker told the story in such stylish fashion. loved it

  • Thanks! A MASTERPIECE! - For the people who don´t know french, learn another language. Not all the world will talk, write and speak in English. There is a whole world outside our borders.

  • Don't be such an ass about it. I'm learning English, and what, I'm supposed to learn french too? I see what you're saying, just don't be a prick about it.

  • Yea, don't be a prick!

  • Chris Marker a.k.a. Christian-François Bouche-Villeneuve was a french guy... work hard your french books :)

  • I love this story so much.

  • thanks!

  • i don't speak french.
