It's different for WGI... but if you're 22 before June 1st of any year, you can't march that year of DCI... if your birthday is after June 1st, you get an "extra year."

WGI's rules say you cannot be over 22 on the day of March 31st of any given year... I don't know if that means you can compete as a 23 year old if your birthday is after March 31st or if you can only compete as a 22 year old. I think the limit for WGI is 22, whereas it's 21 for DCI.

Well, considering it's a high school, you might want to order small anyway. What my old high school has, which I think is a pretty good way to go, is 16, 18, 22, 26, 28. You usually don't see 18 inch top drums and 30/32 inch bottoms until you hit drum corps.
