No Monty, no waterhole!!!! JK, just making fun of all those assholes that say the current lineup shouldnt be around. I love this footage. The new Outlaws rule this song too!!
@littlebighank If Hughie's not there , it's not the Outlaws...it's Henry Paul and a bunch of talented guys playing Outlaw songs....nothing against them playing it...just call it the Henry Paul Band ....or even Henry Paul's Outlaws......If feeling that way makes me an asshole, then fine, I'm an asshole.
@six2112 youre entitled to your opinion, as are all of these other people. I just think that whoever is left from the original 1975 debut album lineup is out there touring, therefore, they are the Outlaws. Nobody bashes Skynrd cause Donnie or Lonnie or Connie or whoever is singing and not Ronnie VanZant. Nobody jumps on Doug Grey cuz the Caldwells are dead, I don't KNOW that The Outlaws current lineup is the best, I just think its good and they call themselves The Outlaws, so thats what they are
Ive seen them a whole lot of times .. and I think that Ive seen them a couple different times when he was wearin that damn cast on his foot... ... love them OUTLAWS.. miss them lots .. wheres the good ole southern Rockers today??????????
Yeah I saw these guys at "Summers on the Beach" in Ft. Lauderdale around this time. That was a great beach bar to see a show like this. Bummer they closed it years ago when the re-developed Ft. Lauderdale Beach. What a great show they did. Those were the days!!!!
I can see it plain as day: "come on, flash, lets git them duke boys," as roscoe's cruiser fishtails after the general lee through the backroad of georgia...
Yeah Billy was great, you'd be surprised how many solos he played on those early records. I have one of Hughie's personal picks he used at a show in 1980 with his name on it & have an 8x10 glossy of both Billy & Hughie on either side of a Strat with all their signatures on it from the 2005 tour, including Hughie, Henry & Monty, but not Billy & Frank. They were already gone by then.
Still Priceless to me none the less.
Long live The Outlaws. Southern rock's greatest guitar players.
Anyone hear reason Billy died? On drugs? Or meds-the usual reason you never hear of? Have depression? Seen em in a 3000 seat place in Sunrise, Fl back in the day, crazy about em since 75. Early shredders too.
Billy Jones one of so many incredible underrated guitarists...what really impressed me about him is that he came into the band playing drums but having been so inspired by The Allman Brothers and their album Live At The Filmore East, he learned to play guitar, now that's impressive.
One of the best Southern Rock Bands The Outlaws were my favourite since the 70's. It was a pitty when they lost Billy Jones, im my opinion, the soul of the band. Rest in peace, Billy!!!
When the Outlaws lost Billy they should have changed the name of the band. They were still a kick ass group but he took too much with him. Don't mean to piss off Hughie fans it's only the way I feel.
Thanks jongreek. Shortly after his death people were looking foward to an Outlaws reunion which made about as much sense to me as a Beatles reunion without John.
@catman605 I was skeptical too. I don't want to get into the politics of it all, but the current line up with Henry Paul kicks ass. I know it's not the same without Hughie, but they are very good. I went to see them twice & was totally blown away. They would blow most bands off the stage. Cheers! Mini Outlaw
From what I have heard from fans in the know about the band, Billy was a very unhappy cat. It's a shame...loaded with talent, great phrasing and melodic sensibility.
the outlaws are more closely related to skynyrd than they are to the allmans. skynyrd and the outlaws are pure southern rock, whereas the allman brothers throw jazz into their stuff. lynyrd skynyrd is really the abolute definitive king of southern rock, and the outlaws are right there with them.
@AugieDog6 I agree with your take on the musical styles, however, I like The Outlaws the best. I love their vocal harmonies & their dual guitar solos. I love Skynyrd too, but The Outlaws are my favorite.

Oh, The Guitar Army, as ever! A shame both Hughie and Billy are gone. I think he passed away just a few years after this recording was made. Rock on 4evah and rip Billy and Hughie.
hey merle211 we saw them also in the summer of 77 they opened for skynard and it was gaines or rossington lost it and threw a guiter into the first couple rows and hit some poor slop and then when on to knock over the drum set ronnie van zant grab him drag him off stage came back out saying how sorry he was about the whole thing and would make up to the people.after they cleaned up the stage the outlaws and skynard played together rip hughie
waterhole was just a ample of what was to come at an outlaws show - 2 hours later an almost 30 minute version of green grass and high tides awaited you. i wish i saw them more than the 13 times i did. the first was at central park in nyc with jefferson starship in 76. the florida guitar army never failed to put on an awesome show. may all the departed members RIP
So sad that it takes the great ones leaving us to recognize them. I'm sure when Jack or Jimmy Hall pas, Wet Willie will be the next big thing. Maybe when Charlie Daniels passes, politically incorrect will be correct. My point?....Southern Rock never left us, they got left, and I hope all the greats get their dues BEFORE they go...
Billy Jones is Fantastic!! Does anybody know how he died?? I had the privelige of seeing the Outlaws many times; always a great show, highlighted by Billy Jones solos!!!!
Billy Jones put a gun into his mouth and pulled the trigger..what an incredible waste of talent..saw the myself a couple of times, once with Billy (and Molly Hatchet) around 1978
If i ever kill someone or rob a bank and then get in a highspeed chase with police, ill be sure to include this on the cd i would play while making my getaway. Prob put the song from Blues Brothers and Breakin the Law by Judas Priest on it as well.
Great stuff/ this was from a concert in Lorelei Germany/ I saw it once on tv and taped it/ but over the years I lost the tape(a shame)...so thank you damulder for bringin'up good memories...what can I say more/like bodders....we want more PLEASE/thanks- Tjappie
